Three words describe this manga: Utter-Fucking-Disappointment. If I could, I'd just leave this sentence as is for the review because I don't see why I must put in more effort in my writing than what the author did to the final half of his manga. As always, there will be little spoilers (except for the some parts which have major spoilers due to it being so bad I had to vent but I'll give a warning) in case you won't to read this for yourself.

This was one of the biggest let-downs since Fairy Tail as it offers a promising start with the lazy scribbles of ... a person that couldn't be arsed continue his story. It legit feels like he gave up midway thinking his fans are idiots and will accept whatever he puts on a page. Popularity really seemed to get to his head because my god what we as fans got at the end was all bark no bite.

Nanatsu no Taizai or Seven Deadly Sins by it's popular name is a story about 7 outcasts who find companionship amongst each other, each with their weird quirks and personality. The lore and mystique around each character was certainly interesting with each new introduction felt like finding a legendary Pokémon and you couldn't wait to find out more about this character and why they were held in such grand esteem. This was the highlight of the series but after they were found, the author just forgot to do anything with them. I thought because the manga is called "The Seven Deadly Sins", it would revolve around the 7 characters working as a unit except we just get focused on two characters - Meliodas and Elizabeth.

God almighty the MC is a stale piece of shit with no redeeming qualities other than being a perverted super hobbit. Doesn't also help the fact that the character designs makes the characters look super young so it mainly looks like a child running around with a sword, grabbing tits but I digress. Usually I'm not a fan of the MC in stories because they're often the self-insert tropes and having the least interesting character of the bunch but he gets the most shine and shine he does, brighter than anyone and even than that of the other character's power which is the actual fucking sun. All other characters have crutches that limit themselves to being absolutely broken but not Meliodas. Only thing hindering him is emotions....pfff. His love interest is no better with her just being a sexualized puppet with the MC groping her at every turn with little to no reaction to it...she's just dull and boring. These are the 2 characters that lead your manga? No wonder it went downhill.

The story peaked in the first half, it was intriguing and finding out the lore of each character, creature and place was really interesting. Then second half tho and my god that final arc...honestly just rage inducing. The author hyped the final villain up so much but when push came to shove, he did nothing. He was dominated and defeat almost 10 times back to back. Every time he would power up, they would smack him down and remind him he's trash. The final boss turned into a training dummy that everyone just tested their moves on...this was your big bad threat that was hyped up for 70% of your story? Are you shitting me right now? You would also think he was overpowered due to the SDS working as a team and you would be right but it wasn't like it was needed. By the end, the MC could solo the boss alone. Teamwork was an illusion created by the author because just a chapter after the big bad's defeat, the MC revealed a form said to be much more powerful that the final villain alone so why? Why would you not use this form while the your teammates are literally sacrificing themselves and you're running around holding back? To make them feel important? It just comes off as condescending tbh.

This is why I could never really get into this series. The MC is just so uninteresting but he is inserted into almost every situation because that's who he is. From the beginning he is so powerful, it takes away from the suspense of every fight. When he pops up, I always have the feeling of "Ugh" because I know how it will end. The only way he ever lost was because of plot sealing his power and someone literally having to become invincible to beat him. The majority of this is mainly a rant about the MC but tbh, he's one of the major issues in this story because of how he's portrayed. It gets stale when you can predict what happens.

Another annoying part of this is near the end where the author keeps teasing us with the ending of the series. I dunno how many times we read the epilogue of this story just to be hit with "surprise muthafucka" around every corner. Most people would be grateful when a series continues but bleh, the longer this went on, the more bitter it tasted and you're left at the end reading it just because you came so far. Also when you think the story can't get worse, they kill off the best character. Now, I'm glad someone important died but his death had no meaning...absolutely nothing. It reminded me of Vegeta's final atonement where he sacrificed his life for his family and friends to destroy the villain but the villain came back anyway so it was for naught. He just died for the sake of dying because as I said before, the MC was more than powerful enough to solo the villain. It just pisses you off.

Now with all that epilogue trolling out of the way, we move onto the true final arc. This was probably done to tie everything that the author forgot about and then decided to shove that into about 10 chapters, and even then he didn't cover anything because surprise surprise, he decided this abomination needs a sequel and we might get the rest of the answers in that. Now tell me...who the hell is masochist enough to sit through phase two of the mess seeing how the author treats his own story? Hard pass.

I hated reading this manga for about 100+ chapters but really hated reading this the last 50. Now people will often say "iF yOu dOn'T lIkE, dOn'T rEaD iT"...fair point. It won't change the quality of the story tho. Whether I keep reading it or drop it, it will still be garbage.

Art was fine. Some panels early story were really something and a lot of the landscapes were drawn beautifully. Story is generic trash, characters are garbage except for one of them and this manga just went on far too long considering the state it was in. Whole manga gets a rating of 1 simply because it wasted my time.

At the risk of this turning into a rant, I will be censoring myself a lot to give a genuine review. This review will contain very minor spoilers as names (except the main character slot) will be withheld because for god know what reason you still want to pick up this manga after everything I said, you won't be spoiled...you have been warned.

Well, well, well...what can I say that hasn't been said about FT? Actually nothing really. FT is what happens when you wrote 1/4 of your manga and then ... fire all your co-writing staff, go to a nursery and replace good plot with whatever those toddlers vomit on a page and there you have what FT is. Granted for a battle shounen, you shouldn't expect much when it comes story and characters but this just happens to be worse than every battle shounen I've ever watched/read. How did it fall so fast into the shitter that it actually becomes a chore to read it every week? I remember back in the day when a new chapter would come out and I would genuinely feel excited but as time progressed and the quality of work just became worse and worse, you get the feeling of apathy because your hopes and expectations have been shattered time and time again. At least I can praise FT for one thing and that is its unpredictability because it surprises you every time in how much worse it can become with every chapter.

Normally in battle shounen you see the characters train to become better but not here...no, no, no here the give friendship speeches and cringy one liners about emotions and then gain all sorts of asspull power. Battles go something like this

4vs1...villain slaughters them
*cue the friendship speech*
1vs1...badly damaged FT member one-shots
*cue the viewers tears after watching a horrible fight*

If the whole "friendship" power-up always defeats the enemy despite how powerful they may be (even GODS), what's the point of even training to become stronger? They always put so much effort in fighting the enemy, seemingly intensifying the situation they're in, then use the overused, effortless power-up known as "friendship" that ALWAYS ends it. It's not even because they are stronger than their foe. Sometimes the foes power outclasses them completely yet the 'believing in myself' and 'my friends give me power' stick always wins...I'm surprised the series hasn't ended sooner.

The characters are horrible with almost no redeemable ones among them. Character development here somehow makes the character worse, I didn't think it was possible but Hiro did it. This manga features some of the worst characters I've ever come across and the character assassinations that happen to mildly interesting characters, just because of their contact with the main cast is truly shocking. It's like they are all absorbed into the bullshittery of emotion that is the Fairy Tail guild. They lose their individuality and just like a corporate environment, become slaves in a never ending rut just going with the flow of things. At the end it's like the same characters just all wearing different faces until they just become numbers.

The Main Characters

Natsu - Carbon copy/paste of the idiot shounen male lead that thinks with his fist but somehow he's worse because instead of training to become stronger, he just spouts crap about "my friends are my strength" and one shots the opponent even though the foe was winning 99% of the fight...fucking ridiculous.

Lucy - The fanservice character with forced insertion due to her magic type to make her seem more than a massive set of tits in clothes that are clearly way too small for her. If she's not randomly losing clothes, becoming naked or falling on Natsu's face, she would hardly feature. She's not a good character but as far as FT characters go, she's one of the better ones.

Gray - At least something Hiro done right. With his unique Ice Making magic, he can construct objects and combined with his keen intellect, he uses this and strategy to defeat his opponent in a non-bs way. Then kinda murdered the characters progression to make him blend in with the rest of the mind-numbing cast. Hiro does this with a few characters but why would that surprise you...

Erza - The worst character in the series and I'm not even going to go here. I could start an entire website dedicated to my hatred of this character and how appaling she is written..."because she's Erza" oh the cringe.

Happy - Natsu's flying cat that's there to make jokes and eat fish...that's it...no lie.

The manga art also takes a major change in the middle but personally I was fine with it as it made the characters look older than they were before due to a time passing by but still recognizable. Character outlines are also thinner. I think I was one of the few people to actually like the new art as I've only heard backlash on it but meh, you either like it or you don't. It's not like it subtracts or adds much to this terrible story.

The characters don't even look that much different especially the female characters. It's like Hiro just took the same body shape for every female except for Wendy that is treated as a loli for comedic scenes about her big breast envy and a bit of fan-service for those that want that...just horriible and lazy.

The story is a linear set of events that really serve no purpose other than introducing fodder villains for Fairy Tail to bulldoze and the final arc has to be one of the worst things in digital and printed history. Even the final chapter like seriously? You couldn't give the fans a better ending than that after suffering through that mess? I wouldn't print it on toilet paper. Over 500 chapters and 11 years of work, most of it is horrible but I guess the series had to remain true to itself and remain trash to the end...wouldn't want to mess with the Krabby Patty formula now do we?

Personally I've spent 4 years following this series and it was one of the worse things I've read and now I've have nothing more to say except goodbye and good riddance.

Well, well, well wasn't this an unfortunate mistake. If there's one thing I hate, is anime series that are pretentious and lure you in with false promises of an enriching story (granted this was pretty much NOT that). The story continues off the 1st season where...oh who cares, the plot is in the description...I'm just here to tell you it's awful. Some find this show enjoyable but I'm not here to argue taste, you have yours and I have mine.

This show is as shallow as it ... gets from the plot to the characters to the melodrama. Shows like this try to give the impression that they try to build on the story and develop the characters but all they do is try to give random ecchi moments and who is going to sit on the MC's rod first...sounds like a masterpiece at work here. Why do these series keep pandering to the beta-male, where it's one bland, awful, dense mary-sue with the personally of chalk character get to have 5 beautiful girls fight for his attention? If the point is to make relatable characters, what's with all the heavily unrealistic situations? When will someone like the MC ever succeed in real life by being the way he is? I guess you have to pander to those with these traits and if being pathetic sells, I guess you have to cater towards your target market but I digress...

The female characters don't do much to the series...it's like the only time they feature is when they bicker amongst each other for the MCs approval. Their personalities fall into the common trope of:

Eriri - flat-chested tsundere with blonde pigtails and MC's childhood friend...I could reach into a bucket and pull out 10 of these

Utaha - miss perfect, blessed with intelligence and beauty trying to give off an imposing figure of a lion with her cold attitude but is reduced to a kitten when the MC drops a compliment

Michiru - basically there for incest fanservice, always very physical with the MC much to the despair of the others, often very flirty as well

Megumi - the plain, soft spoken type, always tries to help others rather emotionless girl that opens up slowly with the help of her friends, some might say the perfect girlfriend

And last but not least...the MC: Tomoya Aki...there has to be a reason why girls are attracted to him...is it his pasty skin? His bland appearance? His barely existent personality? His density or the fact that he's a hardcore geek that spends his money on games and anime? All these things make up the boy girls want...that's what they tell us so it must be true, right?

Everything that takes place, each thing these girls achieve is just to please the MC in the end and try to earn his affection. They serve no other purpose other than being the MC's romantic interest, ending up in questionable situations and random ecchi moments to appease the fans and sell BDs. A true shame since many good characters in series like this just end up as sex objects and shipping fuel.

This show is a special kind of bad. I've known this since the first season but I stuck around like fly on shit seeing if it gets better but in the end you realize, like the fly, you're literally wasting time and being entertained by a turd.
