I don’t really judge things from controversies; I rather try to consume that specific controversial art in order to decide on what opinion I have of it. HigeHiro falls on the negative side of things, because it’s apparent that this is a pedophile fantasy, judging how the age of consent in Japan is one of the biggest issues there and woman have been fighting to increase it. HigeHiro tries to glamorize an adult man housing a minor, and tries to pass it off as a noble act.
One of the biggest problems with HigeHiro is that it’s trying so hard to be a moralistic story

with child abuse themes, and mask its problematic aspects with it. Which I think from reading the reviews here, worked pretty well.
I have been watching some people calling the mc as someone with a high moral code, and I am just scratching my head reading that. I really don’t understand how it is a wise decision to house an underage prostitute who is in need of apparent help and therapy. Even more so when in Japan, it’s illegal to house run away minors. Any normal human being with a proper functioning brain would have called for the police or child protective services. An adult man offering a minor prostitute housing isn’t a noble thing, but a rather fishy move on his part. Him “holding back” from her advances really doesn’t detract from the whole issue here, What does he want from her in the long run? How long is he planning on providing housing to her?
She needs professional help to become a proper functioning adult capable of supporting herself, providing housing for her does nothing but farther make her incapable of helping herself in the long run. This anime is from the start, a whole mess.
P.S. I don‘t care if anyone likes this, just as long people aren‘t excusing the problematic aspects.
