EDIT: I forgot a few things!
Please note that I am on episode 45 and planning on continuing this anime. I may say some things that I will either take back later or still feel the same when I am finished with the series. My score on my list may change as well!
I've known about Black Clover's existence since 2017 or 2018. I've heard mixed opinions on the anime since I heard of it and stayed away simply because I had my eye on different series. But I picked up Black Clover because of a friend recommending it to me the other day. As I stated,
...
I'm on episode 45, which to be honest, I am very surprised I could get this fair on this anime.
Will Contain spoilers for examples!
Story: 7
Nothing is original anymore, that is how it is now. But I did not expect to be sucked into a world that I thought I could predict. I thought the story was bland the first dozen episodes, but it really captured my attention. I am a sucker for power/magic fantasies like this anime and I didn't know why I was expecting this anime to flop in its story.
I will not lie, as much as Black Clover's story has grappled me in, I find the tropes and moments very, very cringe. Oh, and the pacing. The pacing is horrendous in the first few episodes. While I don't quite care about it as much now, I can still point out scenes that are way too rushed. I find some characters very boring and annoying quite easily, but I understand that I am about 4 years late on this anime. Times have changed since then.
Black Clover's humor is the same as any other anime but done poorly. Since I've only watched the anime, the anime tries to make the story seem serious, but after watching a few major fights, I don't think so. Black Clover also seems to skip over some major events. Like, when Asta transforms to his Demon Form, Noelle takes note of that but just doesn't bring if up afterwards? That, at least to me, was a major event and no one in that universe questions it. Huh.
Art: 8
The art style was what kept me from watching this series in the first place. It's quite bland compared to other series. And now that I am quite a bit in, I can say that style doesn't faze me anymore, but the quality of the animation does. It's clear that the studio has great animation, especially when it comes to the openings and fights and sometimes in the strangest of places, but I suppose the studio has other, bigger anime to work on.
I can nitpick every little detail that is out of place. For example, when Asta and Kiato attack Vetto, they are quite literally punched away. But these two get up and don't express that they have been hurt. The animation is stiff as all hell and as someone who very much likes to see her good boys suffer, that is a big no no from me.
Sound: 8
I am not very well versed in this section of a review, so I'll keep it short. The sound, well, sounds all right for me. I've heard some pretty banger openings (I love the third one!), and I think the sound tracks are quite all right. However, when watching the anime, those soundtracks just seem to appear out of thin air. I'm sure this is fixed later on in the anime, but I'll have to see when I get there.
Character: 8
I hate Noelle. Period. There’s just something about her that I hate and I really can’t but my finger on it.
Other than that, most of the characters I really love. I did have a problem with Asta and all his screaming, but I understand his character and I don't mind it as much anymore. In fact, that was another reason I didn't want to watch Black Clover as many people have criticized Asta for being a loud, out-going 15-year-old. Most 15-year-olds in anime are like this, especially if they have a goal. Most characters are actually really cool.
I have a problem with the pacing of the characters being introduced. I feel that there are way too many characters that the show reveals and just expect the view to fall in love with them. How can I fall in love with a character when I given no time to fall in love with them? This is just a personal thing for me as I tend to want to love all characters introduced.
Enjoyment + Overall: 6
This anime managed to pull me away from other series I've been watching. Nowadays, I am very critical of shows, anime or not, that come my way. While I wanted Black Clover to be an anime where I can turn my brain off of critical mode, I simply can't help to have some strong opinions. I do enjoy this anime and will hopefully continue it until it's finished. My score may change in the future, but for now, it stays as a 6.

I don't normally write reviews, but since this is MHA and I'm a sucker for this series, I will let my thoughts be heard.
I remember seeing the news for this movie on Instagram (as that's where I find most of my anime news) and I wanted to see the movie as I am a fan. I don't think the movie was out in Japan, so I had to wait. I don't remember the release date of this movie in the US (sometime in February?), but I remember going to it with my friend as she wanted to see it. We were excited to watch ... Apr 26, 2020

Hello, this is my first review, so I hope I am doing this correctly.
While I am still very much in love with Haikyuu, something about it doesn't feel right. And that for me is the change of style. I remember seeing the new designs on Instagram and immediately felt my love for the characters drop. Don't get me wrong, I still very much love my good boys, but that only characters that didn't seem to change are Yuu and Tanaka. I miss Hinata's wild, detailed hair and I miss Kageyama's distinctive look that came with the prior seasons. Kageyama in this season just looks different ... |
