Let's start my review of why I started this show.
It's because I liked bunny girl senpai and the two main characters in this show are voiced by the same voice actors. I knew nothing about it except for who's voicing the characters so I had no expectations beyond good voice acting.
[Setting and Set up]
You can already tell from the description of the anime the mc isn't going to get a strong start. Isekai in general commonly has op protagonists, putting people with unmarketable skills into worlds where their unique skillset is actually useful and often the most important skills to have. So this

I feel like it's impossible to review this anime fully without spoiling it so I'll only talk about about storytelling techniques.
It has a unique start compared to other anime but not with other mediums. The first episode puts you straight in the middle of a complex setting without any explanation. This method does two things, it gives you a limited perspective from the mc's point of view and immediately allows you to experience the way action and comedy works in the show. The build up is the weaker part of the show, the flow is not always consistent and there are long sections of ... Jul 14, 2019
This really is a one of a kind anime.
It's only purpose is comedy, each episode is made up of shorter skits which are either the school girls or the professor though they overlap often. Each character has a unique personality and their dynamics all work together to create funny situations. The animations, music and art all work together and change rapidly to achieve the same purpose. There is one reason for why this show is as funny as it is and that is it takes events which happen in daily life and exaggerates them to the maximum level the budget would allow. It's relatable ... This show is happiness. It's not the kind of show with an intense story and suspenseful subplot. The problems the characters solve are minor and the solutions are simple.
Yet, the show is iconic in many ways. It's art direction of having characters look mostly similar except for an obvious character trait such as Mugi's eyebrows or Ritsu's hairband, making characters cute without making them sexy and using mostly warm colours have become a base for a lot of cute-based animes. Everyone is good friends with everyone. There are no moments of true unhappiness and the problems in friendship which arise are generally solved through ... Jul 14, 2019
Let's take a look at the concept for this show.
A gate opens and connects the modern world with a fantastical medieval one. It doesn't look like there's any way to make this boring. Somehow they did. They squandered the ridiculous amount of potential the setting allowed in exchange for two things Harem and Fan-service: these two are not necessarily bad as they do sell, however it was not done in an innovative way and does not benefit from the setting the way other fan-service shows with monsters girls and the like. Though the overall storyline is new, the arcs and subplots are generic and overdone ... |
