Re:Zero used a tool to exploit deep character psychology, the power to "return from death". Allows users to go back in time and return to any point in time after each death. An ability that seems very useful and that everyone wants to have, but only those who have used it like Subaru know how terrifying and cruel that power is.
Imagine having your head chewed to death, having your stomach cut open only to return to any point in time to do it again, imagine that you've built up all the relationships and gratitude for helping people, everything is gone. clean every time you die.
...
And you can't share or confide those pains with anyone, and if you could tell them, it's unlikely anyone would believe them. Those are the difficulties that our guy Subaru went through, and going through such things without losing his mind is a strange thing. And the author has created a cruel fantasy world where there are always accidents, a world with a deadly dead end, as a world for his character to have a strong development step.
If you only read through it and know the plot, you will never fully feel the essence of Re:Zero. Readers need to pay attention to both the moral issues and the complexity, behavior, and speech of the character. Want to live and fear death? Death is also fundamentally a form of escape and it is not an easy thing to talk about. First, let's briefly talk about a few points of Subaru's personality: to gain trust from his friends, Subaru must use a different personality. The personality he presents is one with a joking and ecstatic attitude that makes him and those around him sick, which only shows that he is willing to lower his humanity to make people like him. One time he was so sick that he had to vomit in the bathroom. Why act like this robot and make yourself so sick? Subaru puts on this persona because it is the only other way he knows to interact with others besides this. He thinks that if he were himself he would be considered incompetent, that everything has to be perfect, that he has to be perfect. To gain the love and trust of others to continue living. And with that way of life, he will never be happy.
And Rem's altruism and empathy truly save him. Subaru didn't need to create any more drama, he realized he could relax and rely on the people around him, because he was no longer alone. He always has people who love him by his side, and that love is the driving force that makes him unable to give up in this harsh, nonsense world.
Re:Zero teaches many valuable moral lessons, but it is not expressed through any simple story or words. It creates a flawed main character in a very desperate situation, and creates an indescribably complex atmosphere that makes readers enlightened and absorb its valuable lessons for the rest of their lives, something extremely unforgettable.
Re:Zero not only helps us become more enlightened and develop ourselves, but also helps us remember the precious love of fathers and mothers. In a scene in arc 4 (episode 10), Subaru undergoes a challenge to purify himself, which is to face the past, a past that he regrets to the end, a place before he was summoned. When he arrived in another world, it was nothing more than his time with his parents. No more fictional details of another world, this is the chapter closest to our lives. And I personally find this one of the best chapters of the series.
He met his parents again, but they were just memories in his mind. However, they are so strangely real that if someone said they were real, he would immediately believe them. All their gestures and words are no different from his two beloved parents.
And Subaru's life before coming to another world... wasn't much more "pathetic". He couldn't get along with his friends, and his excessive dynamism made his peers tired. He is very excited to go to school every day. However, he was so sick of the personality he put on that one day...he didn't want to go to school anymore.
From then on, Subaru always stayed at home, he didn't want to go to school, he missed school for many months, making his parents worry but... they didn't hate him, they still treated him as normal. Subaru has lived most of his life in the shadow of his father (Natsuki Kenichi). Kenichi is charismatic, talented, and well-respected, qualities that people more or less expect from Subaru. This was true from Subaru's early days and he continuously received positive feedback about it until he wavered in maintaining that image. As Kenichi's Son, what went from being a badge of honor for Subaru became a painful burden on his shoulders and he was crushed by the expectations of others while his self-worth collapsed. And now this is a whole new otherworldly world where no one knows him, let alone his father. This is not Subaru Natsuki, son of Kenichi Natsuki. No one will put these high expectations on him. It was a new opportunity in life for Subaru, an opportunity that he thought was meant for him and him alone. Sure he loved his parents very much but the sheer pressure and negative feelings he had towards his previous world and his place in it probably overwhelmed any remaining positive feelings the leave he has for it leaves a projection.
And his parents are the only people still with him. However, he was not satisfied with that. He took a walk to confide in his father, he hated himself, for humiliating his parents. His father, Kenichi, is charismatic, talented, and respected by everyone. What about his child? Subaru is an egotistical guy, skipped school for several months in a row, and lives alone with society. He always wondered why his parents still instilled hope in a pathetic guy like him, confiding to his father:
“I have been out of school for many months. But no matter how pathetic you are, we still treat you like normal."
“...But that's what I'm most afraid of. I want my parents to say "I hate you", "You are not my child". Then...you can completely give up.”
But his father kicked him in the head to wake him up and said, what parent would hate their child just because he is withdrawn from society? He said he saw a potential within him. In his parents' eyes, he is not Natsuki Kenichi's son, he is just Natsuki Subaru.
And his father, uttered a sentence that made both him and the reader unable to hold back their tears:
“If you still feel guilty, then when your parents get old, please ask me to take care of you.”
He froze...realizing that being with his parents was no longer possible, because he had been taken to another world. He immediately sobbed and apologized to his father that he had never repayed his parents anything, and perhaps in the future he would not be able to do so. This scene shows Subaru's helplessness. He wants to take care of his parents more than anyone else, but he cannot be with them.
That day he decided to go to school after many months of absence, his mother followed. Seeing him always blaming himself for always failing to follow in his father's shadow, his mother worried. He asked his mother if he did well and was worthy of being her son? His mother said:
“Subaru is my parents' child, I have half of my father and half of my mother. You only need to be half of me, and the other half, you can just be yourself."
He couldn't hold back his tears again, he shouted that he was in a very far place and couldn't contact his parents. He kept apologizing, apologizing that he had never paid them back or would ever be able to repay them. But his mother didn't care at all, his mother said:
“Parents don't need those things. I didn't give birth to you to want you to do something for us. I gave birth to you because I wanted my parents to be able to do something for me."
A sentence that can make readers like me who truly understand the full meaning of the series unable to hold back their tears. This chapter truly brings a captivatingly beautiful color, an emotion that is hard to describe but wants to express at all costs. Truly, the series has guided me to a more positive lifestyle, has illuminated my vision of the world, Re:Zero will be an unforgettable work in my life.
Subaru is peak ngl, literally one of the best protagonist of all time, not in an isekai community only

What makes a hero?
Re:Zero is a Japanese light novel series, a work created by the pen of Nagatsuki Tappei (born 1987), a series in the genre of fantasy, thriller, psychological stories. This work has released more than 37 volumes and is currently being continuously composed. Published by Media Factory and copyrighted by IPM to Vietnam. Re:Zero has been nominated for the best light novel of the year many times and at the same time received many compliments from critics, so what is it about itself that has achieved such success?
Reincarnation, a very popular genre in Japanese novels in general, mainly focuses on a character reincarnating
...
into another world for adventure and a more vibrant life, it is hated because is considered escapism, but Re:Zero is different. A work that takes a very popular theme in today's light novels and turns it into a fantasy horror series. That is the essence of Re:Zero. Rather, Re:Zero is a fantasy horror series that's a bit of a bewitching complexity.
I never thought any series could effectively combine dark psychological elements with an optimistic, fantasy setting. Yet Tappei has demonstrated his genius for crafting a work that expertly combines two seemingly incompatible genres with impressive results.
The series begins with our protagonist Natsuki Subaru suddenly being summoned to a fantasy medieval world after leaving a convenience store. As someone who enjoys reading manga who has probably dreamed about something similar happening to him for years, Subaru is naturally excited to be in this new world. However, to his disappointment, Subaru quickly realizes that he does not have any special abilities or powers. His adventure in another world was quite uncertain, on the other hand, he was robbed by the gang leaders, encountered a gang and was chased away. However, he quickly got used to his current situation and started helping acquaintances like finding a girl's stolen item and the two began their adventure. This beginning seems quite cliché and nothing special, however everything changes dramatically when he arrives at a warehouse, he suddenly sees a mysterious figure with a blade so sharp that it fascinates the viewer. , and at that moment Subaru realized he was dead.
How ironic, the main character dies in the first chapter? However, he later finds himself standing in front of the city he was summoned from. We soon learn that Subaru actually possesses a special ability, called "return from death", an ability that allows the user to can go back in time to any point after his death
And then, Subaru confronts creatures and opponents that possess unreasonable power. Die over and over again, keep going back in time, sacrificing yourself until you defeat your opponents, protect those you love, and lead yourself to the best ending. However, he was not allowed to tell anyone about his powers, otherwise he would have to experience pain that crushed his internal organs, meaning he could not share with anyone about his abilities. the pain he went through.
Re:Zero is one of the works that exploits the deepest character psychology of all time. Every moment of it truly brings complex emotions and inspires something, something beautiful, to me, a work that offers valuable lessons not through words, but through creation. Create a character that readers can see themselves inside.
Different from other light novel series, it has main characters with superior abilities, good personalities and makes readers fascinated with that perfect image. However, Subaru is different, he is not at all perfect, he is a character with many flaws, his journey always exploits the darkest and ugliest qualities of humanity.
After experiencing many deaths against fearsome opponents and winning gloriously in the end, Subaru became delusional about his own power and influence, thinking that he was a god, that he was the leader. in a higher position than others, causing his relatives to begin to worry and distance themselves from him. A typical scene in the story (episode 4) is that he stands up in front of the royal family and speaks loudly to them to protect his best friend when she is at a disadvantage due to opposing opinions from the kingdom. And for a large medieval nation, this was extremely foolish, and very disrespectful to people of such high authority.
And at the same time, he called himself a knight, in medieval kingdoms, a knight was a very noble position reserved for those who had to undergo hard training to achieve it. And who is Subaru? A nameless, ageless poor peasant who has never undergone any training and has not been awarded a title by anyone utters the words "knight"?? Proves that he is too arrogant about his position. At this point, the author skillfully pulls out the ugly brick of humanity, which is pride
The night after Subaru's extremely disrespectful act, he had a heated argument with Emilia, claiming that without him, the people around him wouldn't have survived. What's going on? He let out criticism and blame to the people he loved, he revealed his second ugly personality, which is selfishness. The words he uttered that night truly undermined the value of a hero. Would a true hero expect to be repaid for the good deeds he has done?
Through this, the author cleverly reminded viewers that Subaru is not a strong main character, nor a hero or warrior, but he is just a human being. When control is lost, selfishness will also be exposed.
Unlike other series, unusual works always make their main character a perfectionist, with great power like an image for readers to follow and admire. But Re:Zero exploits the main character as an ordinary person full of flaws, just an ordinary person. Subaru is just a weak human being whose only ability is to return to the past after he dies and does not have any great power at all.
After an argument with the person he loved that night, he decided to cut that person off and think he was the right person. However, some time later, the people he loved were brutally slaughtered by a fanatical and outlawed church, and had to confront huge creatures. He died over and over again but unlike the previous times, he had no one by his side. Thinking back, Subaru's previous battles were won thanks to the help of his teammates.
He realized his own mistakes, realized he did not have enough strength to protect others, he began to muster all the courage to ask for help from the royal family to fight against opponents with great strength. But after his disrespectful and disrespectful behavior towards the royal family that day, of course no one would help a scoundrel who dared to raise his voice to a person of high status like him. After he asked for help, the royal family even despised him even more. He was desperate, regretting his actions, but everything was too late, he couldn't change anything but bowed his head to death and turned back time.
Subaru had to turn his back and complain to the only relative left by his side (Rem). However this time instead of fighting to protect them, he gave up.
He offered to run away with his remaining relative (Rem). Too helpless to face the failures of his previous death, he fully acknowledged his ugly face before. But he decided to give up and run away from it instead of changing himself. He let out disparaging words about himself towards her:
“What do you know?! What do you know about me?! I'm that kind of person! I don't have the power, but I want it all. I have no knowledge, but all I do is dream.”
“It's amazing that I can live like this without feeling embarrassed! That's right! I'm empty... There's nothing inside me... I know that... Yes, that's obvious... . I know it's obvious.”
“I can do anything, but I have never done anything and this is the result of my inability, all my incompetence, the product of my corrupt character! Wanting to achieve something that you have never done before is beyond the limits of arrogance.”
“In my heart, I'm just a small, cowardly, dirty piece of trash, always worried about how others perceive me. And nothing... Nothing about me has changed! ...I really, really, hate myself..."
The hurtful words of reproach made his friend Rem extremely painful. It was impossible to imagine that Subaru would have such mental conflicts, and even less understand why he acted like he was going through hell. Earth. Simply because he can't reveal his abilities to anyone, it makes it even harder for people to sympathize with him. His previous deaths (head separated from neck, freezing to death, dissection and bleeding to death, etc.) no matter how cruel they were, he couldn't share them with anyone.
But Rem, she doesn't hate Subaru, she doesn't understand why Subaru acts so desperately in hiding, doesn't know what he's been through...but she doesn't leave. uncle. She said that she always loved him, no matter what he did, she would stay by his side and accompany him until the end. This really surprised and confused him. Even though he hated himself, the people who really loved him didn't hate him like he thought.
This scene truly creates the biggest turning point in the entire series, it speaks to the power of forgiveness and empathy. Rem's willingness to forgive Subaru's past mistakes and support him despite his flaws is a powerful example of unconditional love and compassion.
He stood up again and decided to trust the people next to him and be determined, save everyone and achieve his bright goal.
After negotiating with some of the royal family's side, they began to realize that Subaru's plan was very reasonable and would benefit both sides. They would kill the illegal church and the monster that had troubled their kingdom for years, and he would save his friends.
During the battle, the royal knights realized that their opponents were not easy to defeat, and everyone began to drop their weapons in fear, trembling before this giant monster. However, there is one person still moving forward, and that is Subaru.
He was determined not to run away anymore but still move forward, something the current knight could not do. On that front, Subaru was definitely the weakest, he had no strength, he was weaker than anyone, and yet.....he still advanced. They realized that if the weakest person on the battlefield has not given up, then why should they run away? No longer scorning or looking down on him, the knights gathered all their courage to fight with him
After the battle, Subaru received admiration and respect from the knights, and all the criticism and bad words about him disappeared. Instead of praise and praise, they recognized him as a hero.
Compared to the pages stained with blood and cruelty of another world, this chapter truly brings positive colors, a new page in his journey. He is truly grateful to the people next to him, he thanks them for accompanying him. He sincerely apologized to his best friend, but she said that she didn't want to be apologized to, but just wanted him to thank him for being by his side.
“You know, a million apologies are not as good as one thank you.”
During the first period of the series, Re:Zero showed a period of skillful character development, Subaru transformed from a young man full of weaknesses and weaknesses into a true hero, proving that that not all heroes wear capes. Expresses psychology skillfully and attractively. Subaru understands that he has a choice, yes...he can change, he can start over. That's why this series is called Re:Zero
Re is Restart, meaning "start again" in English. Zero means zero. And right now, you can “start from zero from another world”
That's right, this is not the end, this is just the beginning.
Re:Zero used a tool to exploit deep character psychology, the power to "return from death". Allows users to go back in time and return to any point in time after each death. I would it a 4 out of 10 but plus two since Vietnam is my nation lmao (this is my first review, please forgive any mistakes)
The story is pretty bad, boring slice of life, but if you life in VietNam, you will feel close and relatable to the story and daily story and world build. The ambience i can feel it !
The art style is cute, funny and watchable, nothing negative about it
The characters, i gotta say, meh
If you live in other countries beside Vietnam probably shouldn't read this, mostly because of it's boring story and characters. But if you live in Vietnam, you
...
should try it, Đoàn Quân Việt Nam Đi, Chung Lòng Cứu Quốc,....
