I don't mind friending people, but if you just send a friend request out of the blue, I'll deny it. At least leave try talking to me before randomly sending me a friend request. This isn't myspace. The same goes for random club invites, since I've gotten far too many of those lately as well. If you want to tell me about a club, that's one thing, but I don't appreciate blind invites.
Ratings:
I rate on the hard side, 1 point below the average for MAL. People interpret the rating scale differently, so here's how mine works.
1 - 4 = Varying levels of crap. Chances are, I never finished these, and if I did, I was cursing at myself the whole way through. Should be dropped.
5 = This series contains a minimal amount of entertainment value. It may occasionally provide an interesting joke or twist, but they are few and far between. I usually finish a series of this level only out of some sort of obligation, often really popular series or because it is a side-story/prequel/sequel to another series. The shorter the series, the better. There's far too much good anime out there to be wasting large amounts of time on something of this level. "Mediocre at best"
6 = The precise definition of decent. It managed to keep me entertained, but that's about it. Nothing really stood out about this series. I end up watching it primarily because I've already watched everything else I was waiting on. A 6 usually isn't so bad that I'll drop the series, and while I don't dread the release of the next episode, it's not really something I'm waiting for either. The 'I might as well' mindset often accompanies these series. I might also refer to this series as "not bad" or "alright."
7 = This is basically my default score. I really don't provide enough distinction here, because some 7's are clear winners over other 7's. A series with this score is certainly worth watching, but it is not particularly memorable. In a single word, these series could best be described as "enjoyable."
8 = This is the level where I really start looking forward to the next episode, and will often end up doing large marathons because I can't put it down. It has all the elements a good anime needs. As with the MAL rating system, I would say that the anime that gets an 8 is "Very Good." I will happily recommend an 8 to you. These shows are often memorable and you will continue to think back on them.
9 = These are the upper-most end of my collection, since 10's are exceptions, as I will explain below. This is the score I hope for every time I pick up a new series. They are the shows that I can watch again and again, true representatives of their respective genre. If you enjoy the genre, they are a must see. In a single word, "outstanding."
10 = I do my best to give out as few of these as possible, because you simply cannot get anything better then a 10. These are 9's that have gone that extra mile to create a true work of art. Depending on both the genre and the individual anime, these scores are given out for a variety of reasons. FMP: Fumoffu remains the only anime that has moved me to tears of laughter; Gunslinger Girl has some of the best character development I've ever seen; and so on. These are the truly great anime's that exceeded my expectations at every turn. "Masterpiece"
Dropped Series:
I will drop a series for any number of reasons. I will drop them due to lack of time as often as I will for disliking the series. The shorter the series is, the less likely I am to drop it. A mediocre series with 12 episodes is entirely manageable. The same quality series dragged out for 50 episodes simply feels like a waste of time. My usual practice is to watch at least 3 episodes of a series before making the decision, as I can think of quite a few gems that got off to a rather rocky start. Sometimes I just can't make it to those three episodes however, particularly on overly ecchi anime. If you see something in my drop list that you think is a big mistake, please say something! I am not above revisiting a series, particularly if I've watched very few episodes from it.
