Both shows take place in an alien-infested world; a curious sci-fi universe. While both are primarily comedy gag shows, they have serious moments/arcs - both do it incredibly well, making you laugh to tears and sob to depression at times. Their comedy is also very similar, primarily when it comes to inside-jokes - you will feel very connected if you've seen shows like Gundam, Ashita no Joe, etc., as the show will make joke-references to them just to cater to a select small group.

Aside them being done by the same author (Adachi Mitsuru) — which led to a dozens of similarities (ex. characters, baseball, motivation) — both shows successfully encapsulate the slice-of-life genre to its peak (ex. tragedy, breakups, drama, etc.). The atmosphere wielded by these shows is semi-identical (barrier by the adaptation date). If you liked one, you'll certainly like the other one too!

Both shows share a really similar artstyle, which isn't a surprise, since Hajime no Ippo's author is Initial D's author's student. Both shows revolve around incredibly and I mean INCREDIBLY dangerous sports, due to the severe danger the intensity whenever there's action is immense. Chills each time. In both shows the main character has their own romance-life with a decent amount of screentime, having their girlfriend relentlessly worry due to their dangerous sport.

There are more similarities, but for the sake of your potential upcoming experience with the show...my recommendation will refrain from spoiling.

Socializing is a drag, really. Both female characters have a rather weak social life, and just struggle with their friend-relationships. Later, both are pushed over their limit by ongoing extroverted male leads, and slowly-- or perhaps unexpectedly develop a love-relationship.

Both Code Geass and Death Note have similar characters; primarily Light Yagami and Lamperouge Lelouch, two evil geniuses striving to achieve their "justice." Both shows cover rather complex plans made by their protagonists, meaning the plot sometimes gets really complex. That said, it has multiple other similarities, but I mustn't spoil the fun.

While Grand Blue isn't really a romance show, it's VERY similar to Bokura wa Minna Kawai-sou in many ways. Just straight up a tip; don't drink anything while watching either of these shows, we get jump-jokes in these that will make you laugh like some psycho...you will spill it all out. Another similarity is that the female leads are very similar, hair, personality, & more wise.
