Isuca is another anime this season that tries to fit in with the rest, but can be considered another "been there, done that" type of anime. An analogy for this show could be that Isuca is a poor mans High School DxD or the latter. It seems to have an identity crisis within itself, it doesn't know when to be a romance, action, school, harem, super natural, or echi/fan-service when it comes down to it. It's on the road to be a not surprising disappointment.
Story: 5
The story is rather straightforward, like the synopsis states, the
...
MC finds himself working as a house mom/maid of sorts, where one family member of a renown exorcise group if you will, in the Shumazu family resides. He is ultimately mixed in her affairs because of a certain gift he possess, and it starts to go downhill from there for the would be lucky MC, as multiple females take their interest in him. As of now there is such a huge lack of information and substance regarding the plot, which makes for a really bland and sub par story. The pacing of the story isn't too much of a factor, but it's just the quality in which it's given is severely lacking. If there wasn't any gore, I would not take this anime seriously in the lightest.
Animation: 7
Possibly their wild card if you will, but still the other sum of its parts weigh down this only plus it has. The art and animation is fairly standard for current anime these days, but nothing really sticks out to write home about.
Characters: 5
Another department where it suffers from its core. The characters are immensely reused and bland, that it's seriously worthy of an actual pace palm, besides possibly one character (meow) and that's it. Tsundere can be considered as a type of fine wine, you either have a refreshing taste for it or it might leave a foul taste, however in this case, personally I wouldn't even want to pop the cork. As already mentioned but, there is hardly any back-story to these characters, even the MC for heavens sake, which makes for a cast that no one really cares about, although they try to remedy this with flash backs, but still ceases to do anything with it. One easy way you can tell if an anime is good or not, is If you can remember the MC's name, heroine or a certain cast member of an anime you're currently watching, if you come up with a blank, you have you're answer; unless your watching tons of anime, but that's the only slack one has.
Wow Factor: 5
Isuca didn't have a strong debut showing other than the showing of our heroines favorite undergarments and oppai, but overall it seemly looked decent at first. Over these past couple episodes it's methodically on the decline, pertaining to the entertainment and overall enjoyment aspect and doesn't seem to know how to pick itself back up. This is a likely drop candidate.
Final Grade: 5
+ True names
- Nothing new
Will I continue to watch this series?
Most likely not.
Do I recommend this series to watch?
If you need a weekly fix of fan service and can withstand a mediocre story, this might be for you

Dogs, scissors and crazy women. I believe I just summed up Inu To Hasami Wa Tsukaiyou in those three main words. Inu To Hasami Wa Tsukaiyou is one of those animes that builds itself a great story, gets slightly over ambitious with the direction of the story and then comes crashing down. Hoping it would go on a more serious direction, but that is just a fleeting dream. So much potential to be brought down to a mediocre level.
Even early on one can already probably predict what direction the anime is heading and predict what type of problems / plot points/twists will most likely
...
be introduced. Then again it is a rather light hearted comedy and actually does a decent job at it. Although it gets pretty repetitive at times, especially when the protagonist gets "punished" almost for every other scene, sure its very funny at first.
Story: 7
As mentioned before this story takes a backseat from being anything but serious, which would have dramatically helped the series achieve greater heights. Watching how the protagonist enjoys his life yields some great laughs here and there, but ultimately falls short and becomes very uninteresting.
Art & Animation: 8
The characters and scenes are nicely done and can tell its an aspect that wanted to be focused on more than others. Standard animation of anime of 2013. I'll admit that's one cute dog they made, with all his facial expressions and movements.
Characters: 7
The characters are very basic at best, nothing really stands out to be memorable however, we are introduced to a variety of over the top characters such as a masochist, tsundere, Moe and etc. The interactions between the main character and the female lead are probably Inu To Hasami Wa Tsukaiyou's biggest strength looking at the anime as a whole. There is some character development in this anime, but it's displayed in a rather odd pace.
Wow Factor: 7.2
Inu To Hasami Wa Tsukaiyou begins with a very promising premier, then slowly dwindles downs until it becomes nothing more but another anime on the list. Don't get me wrong, watching the new life of the protagonist is truly enjoyable to watch and the light hearted comedy is definitely there, but essentially nothing seems to quite stand out.
Final Grade: 7.3 / 10
Do I recommend this series to watch? Perhaps, if you like a light hearted comedy with a hint of odd romance.
+ Good initial Premier
+ Funny at times
+ Shining!
- Wish the plot went in a different direction (disappointing)
- one sided humor & slightly repetitive

Choujigen Game Neptune: The Animation is one of those animes that is based off a game and is solely targeted to those who have played it. So beware new comers who are trying to get into the Choujigen Game Neptune franchise, you will be sorely disappointed. This is definitely by all means a niche target audience, so fan boys and girls raise your hands high for a multitude of cuteness, fan service and the light hearted mundane story line (slice of life) it brings with it.
Choujigen Game Neptune begins on a decent note that could have been have either set the tone for the whole
...
entire series, but rather they chose to make everything as cute and light hearted as possible. When the serious aspect of situations and events occur, it shrubs off as laugheable (not in a good way) and very forgertable, making the situation feel not as serious as it should be.
Story: 6.5 -
Theres a story? Watching cute little girls play games, get attacked by slimes and tentacles, and whining about the most silliest things is not a well delievered story in my opinion. The only credit where it can be siphoned from here is that these girls/characters are all CPU's and control each own their own individual state if you will. The premise of the story is poorly delivered. It's sad to say but, I found it more interesting reading about its "somewhat" intriguing premise and details, rather than watching it.
Animation: 7.5 -
The art and animation in this anime are done nicely, but it also matches with all the other animes to date. There is a touch of battle scenes here and there, which needs more of to improve the animes overall well being.
Characters: 6.5 -
plenty of characters here with all type of personas and character types, some of them can even transform (reminds me of salior moon) into perhaps older, more mature women with over sized weapons (let the fan service begin).
Wow Factor: 6.5 -
In all honesty the only thing that this anime has got going for it and mainly survives on is the complete fan service which provides to its die hard Neptune fans. The fans are greeted with bountiful amounts of Oppais and little girls assuming weird positions with the friendly monsters of the World. Sorry, not amused.
Final Grade: 6.7 / 10

With the return of Monogatari into the second season, we are reunited with the familiar way the story likes to be delivered, which is fast pace dialogue and thought provoking imagery, which can be understood subconsciously and consciously. The way they present this type of story telling is Monogataris biggest strong suit and clearly excels at it, although pacing is some what of an issue for any real plot progression. Sometimes it might feel rather boring and over burdening at times, with loads of text being flashed on the screen every couple seconds. Trying to keep up is certainly a challenge, but that's where Mongatari
...
makes its mark.
For fellow new comers to the series, you might find Monogatari as an oddity compared to other anime and completely lost in the story department. There is very little to none recap of what happened previously, so it is almost a must to watch the previous seasons.
Story: 8
Monogatari finds itself sluggishly moving forward to the next plot point, albeit makes up for this by the way the story is delivered. It is indeed fascinating with the whole apparition aspect of the story, but it would barely get any screen time until almost end of an episode.
Art & Animation: 8.6
I believe this and the characters department might be the right category to show Monogatari's strong suit rather than anything else. From a psychological fast moving imagery/scenes with lines of text to saturated and complementary colors emphasizing the current mood of the scene. This is how Monogatari presents their expertise in art & animation. Monogatari pays attention to the slightest detail in the way it is presented visually and stays very consistent throughout the series. By all means it deserves credit where its due.
Characters: 8.5
The character development and connection between the characters is also very well portrayed in Monogatari. There's a certain kind of air between the interactions with each character, which make each interaction or dialog feel unique and mysterious at the same time. However for the majority of the beginning of the series the interactions between new characters is fairly scarce and might feel dull and repetitive at times. But none the less it is very enjoyable because as mentioned, each new dialog is very thought provoking and keeps the mind on edge, not wanting to miss any line of dialog that is being conversed.
Wow Factor: 8.5
The way everything is presented and delivered to the audience is great to watch, very refreshing and a new take of how a episode is delivered or to be more specific, how it allocates its time into plot progression. Definitely not your typical anime out there, however Monogatari is unique in many categories. One can consider this series a rather niche anime to say the least, but definitely worth watching.
Final Grade: 8.5 /10
Do I recommend this series to watch? Yes, however I insist you watch the previous seasons to get a feel for how this series portrays itself.
+ Unique, yet thought provoking and an aberration of story telling
- Plot development is rather slow, not necessarily a bad thing in this case

Ah to be fully praised as an otaku instead of just being called a nerd and being able to use the ever vital acquired knowledge and ways of the otaku for the greater good. Such a dream is realized for our realistic human protagonist, Shinichi Kanou, as he becomes an ambassador of Japan with the mission of cultural exchange in a fantasy world where magic, dragons, knights, kingdoms, elves and etc thrive, teaching what Japanese culture has to offer and you've guessed it, anime! So be expected to see, prince, princesses elves, reptile like people, soldiers and the latter.
Outbreak Company quickly bears it shine and
...
gives the audience a multitude of aspects to look forward to as the series moves on, from a hint of romance, amusing comedy, fan service without being fan service (You'll see what I mean), enjoyable characters and wonderful story/premise. All these factors do not out way each other but rather, are on an equal level to make it a truly intriguing yet enjoyable anime to watch.
Story - 8.5
Watching the development differences/comparisons and the soon to happen clash of cultures is a very interesting concept to watch unfold. This actually can shed some light and or gives a very good demonstration of what it would be like to actually try to share a different culture with someone else's, who is vastly different and not even to mention a totally different level of civilization if that isn't tough enough. Obstacles and oppositions start to slowly emerge as the story progresses and greater, more realistic world problems such as race, social status, war, rebellion and politics arise. It is easy to say that our protagonist is faced with a rather difficult conundrum that he must face head on and is up to him to spread the joy of what Japanese culture has to offer.
Art & Animation - 8.5
The art and animation are up to par with anime this year (2013) and is detailed but not overly detailed to the extent of each specific object being drawn to detail. I love the subtle detail in palette choice on some of the detail of the characters and some scenes, which becomes noticeable radiant in juxtaposition to the other hues in the scene.
Characters - 8.5
One would think that the protagonist of such an anime witch such a plot about otaku-ism would be extremely stark in regards to being pervy, like such characters as Issei of High School Dxd or someone like Takeru Ooyama of Maken-Ki and the latter. Hes more of the in between of both parallels. There is already a excellent amount of character development for most of the characters, however it might be too fast in some eyes and that could very well be true, but it seems there is more to expand on here to not become totally linear. A gracious amount of characters to like here and more will make their debut as the season progresses.
Wow Factor - 8.5
The very beginning moments of Outbreak Company already got me hooked with its not your everyday rather amusing and intriguing plot. I can't stress enough of how amusing the collision of these two cultures is fascinating to watch unfold. I don't think I've ever seen a lizard man playing a Super Nintendo like vintage machine or an elf reading a classic, over dramatic love manga. Have you? The fact that I'm or one's not to sure where the direction of this anime will go or touch on these addressing matters that exist in this world, fascinates me to keep me watching each episode.
Final Grade - 8.5 -> 8
Do I recommend this series to watch? If you like comedy, fantasy and watching Japanese culture being introduced and inserted to a civilization in a fantasy like world where they have no clue to what it is.
+ Cameo references
+ Intriguing story with a surprising slight dark undertone

With the coming of High School DxD New (Second Season), it once again delivers on a high note, giving fans what they desire the most (No not just Oppais).High School DxD New concocts a remedy of action / comedy / supernatural / School Life and good ol harem. To top it all off, the audience gets a overly gracious amounts of fan service. This anime clearly is catered to the male audience, but however it possibly wouldn't deter females from also watching it as well for various reasons. Reasons such as having consistent enjoyable episodes, which are usually never dull, a rather above average story
...
with several plot twists, and lovable cast of characters with different personalities; whom actually have some type of character progression & back story.
Just a warning to those who want to try out the High School DxD series, whether it be from the first or second season, there are truck loads of fan service / Ecchi (particularly Nudity) There are only a several of animes that actually can pull this off and be considered a pretty good anime.
Story: 8.3 -
The story isn't particularly a very complex one just by reading the synopsis, but this anime provides twists and turns on a consistent basis. Pacing is right on the mark, for example a huge fan service episode (Typical beach episode) then suddenly it continues, with actual plot progression. That deserves some credit where its due.
Animation: 8.5 -
Overall animation is very well done, not over the top & fancy, but never below average. There's a great usage of neutral colors, because essentially it is sort of a dark premise. A lot of warm pinks and reds colors if you know what I mean are present as well. The action scenes are fluid and amazing to watch.
Characters: 8.5 -
The characters in High School DxD are all surprisingly and distinctively different from each other. I believe this is where High School DxD New's strong suit lies, other than its over the top fan service.
Wow Factor: 8.5 -
Every episode is always enjoyable to watch and is delivered on a yes, consistent basis, the way they manage everything is amazing. Without a doubt High School DxD New keeps the audience thoroughly amused and wanting to know what happens in the next episode. A great anime with an over abundance of enjoyable fan service, very comedic / humurous, yet can switch gears nearly on a dime, to a more serious mood. High School DxD New is definitely worth a watch, you shall not be disappointed!
Final Grade: 8.4 / 10 -> 8 (Anime List)
+ The balance between the plot & ultimate fan service
+ Overall Consistency
+ Angels, Demons, Swords and Oppais

Kimi Ni Machi Iru is a finely paced romance about Haruto, the protagonist, searching and hoping to reunite with an old flame. The audience is strung along the main characters quest as he tries to reconnect with his long lost love, with many questions, secrets, trials and tribulations along the way. Romance stories, or at least good ones, are always roller coasters to say the least and usually are always told in the same way. However, Kimi Ni Machi Iru finds its way to reuse the old methodology and turn it into a new refreshing tale of love. Watching the main characters journey unfold is
...
definitely worth watching.
Story: 8.3 -
The story isn't innovative by any means, and it usually revolves around the same concept. A good way to compare Kimi Ni Machi Iru is like comparing it to a Korean Drama show. They always tell it the same way, but it is how they use it, is the key to success. Throughout the story, there are well placed literary devices (symbolism/foreshadowing/irony etc.) and without a keen eye, one could miss out on a completely well developed scene.
Animation: 8.5 -
The art direction definitely has a stylized theme to it, from hues or rather colors depicting the mood and setting of the situation or scene to, warm, calming and serene pastel like colors. Oftentimes, there is no attention to detail, which can be confusing and the question of why it couldn't have just been consistent arises, however overall, it does deserve an honorable mention.
Characters: 8.3 -
The characters are probably the hardest thing to rate in Kimi Ni Machi Iru, and it's definitely going to be opinionated. Each character in the story are very like-able and most likely the audience will end up choosing their favorites (Here comes the rage!). Get ready to see the males name x females name on youtube or comment posts, although the story is most likely predetermined. The characters display their emotions quite vividly, which is also complemented with the art & animation, which can be truly taxing on the soul. These characters deliver a very realistic and very human emotions, that often the viewer can definitely relate to, even if sometimes we might not agree with from a story standpoint or perspective.
Wow Factor: 8.5 -
Kimi Ni Machi Iru does not disappoint and will keep the audience quite amused/engaged until the very end or perhaps just the opposite, to people who compare it to the manga. The story and its characters in it will take you for a heart felt, possibly tear jerking melodramatic journey that is absolutely worth a watch.
Final Grade: 8.4 / 10 - > 8 (Anime List)
+ Good use of Literary Devices (Used in story telling, ex: Foreshadowing, Symbolism etc.)
+ Good use of flash backs
+ Opening Intro & Song (MIMI MEME MIMI - Sentimental Love)
- Sometimes too easy to read & generic of whats to come
- More consistency with the Art style

The sci-fi genre has never been better with the debut of Aoki Hagane no Apreggio: Ars Nova. Not to mention it is also apart of the action genre to make it much more of a power house. This is definitely one of the animes of the Fall line up you do not want to miss out on for an array of notable reasons. Intriguing story filled with mystery, action packed episodes that will literally glue your eyes to the screen in an amazement, incredible, yet refreshing art & animation and more. One could possibly argue it has the whole package, aside from few little kinks.
Story
...
- 8.5
There is definitely a nod to the older generations of sci-fi with all its glory of futuristic advanced war ships with laser beams and catastrophic missiles. Ars Nova is equipped with all of this. The series has a very intriguing setting to say the least, with many questions and mysteries shrouding the plot of the story. As the synopsis mentions the world, of course humanity, is essentially underseige by an unknown enemy later known as "The Fleet of Fog," which are futuristic, technologically advanced warships, that totally outclass the humans races cruisers. The protagonist is the last hope against these mysterious foes that inhabit the waters all over the world. As for plot progression and overall pace of the anime is very exceptional, not too fast and not too slow. No complaints here and it should very well stay like that.
Art & Animation - 9
Probably the most notable thing about this series is the art style and animation. The whole anime is rendered out in CGI as mentioned in my blog post about my first impression about the Ars Nova. This can be a hate it or love it type of deal to many, however in my opinion this type of style looks fantastic and sometimes can hardly tell once involved and engrossed in the story & visuals. This gives off a new level of perception and how we view anime. How often do we get to see full CGI episodes? Some usual methods that anime today try to incorporate CGI for example are, slide of the camera in a battle scene (EX: Attack on Titan last episode), aerial view of an army (Kingdom 2, pretty horrible, yes I know), simple cars passing by (Golden Time), mechas in battle (Valrave) and so on. Battle scenes between these vessels of mass destruction are phenomenally done and are extremely exciting and engaging to watch. The color choice and vibrancy or radiance from the ships and missiles are beautiful and visually stunning.
Characters - 7.5
There are a variety of characters on this show, however the obvious highlight and focus here is between the protagonist and his companion. This type of connection reminds me of a variety of animes in the past that delve in the same type of scenarios. The duo certainly makes itself one of the more notable batman and robin type roles in today's anime. One that quickly comes to mind is Outlaw Star and perhaps even one of the more recent animes, Suisei no Gargantia, however it doesn't nearly reach as much depth as the for-mentioned predecessors . Character development makes an appearance ever so subtly which is good. Slow and steady wins the race. One thing in this section that hopefully gets addressed as the series progresses is making more time for back stories of the other cast members, rather than the spot light being on the two main characters the entire time. Getting familiar with each character and by adding depth to them really makes for a good supporting cast that can shine and be more memorable.
Wow Factor - 9
Aoki Hagane no Arpeggio is definitely a thrill ride worth experiencing whether your a fan of sci-fi or action. Each episode thus far is perfectly done and has a good mesh of different genres and elements. Watching intelligently, well thought out strategies unfold and take action really makes the action scenes very suspenseful to watch and literally being absorbed or for a lack of a better term, immersed in the action. Absolutely one of the better animes of Fall 2013.
Final Grade - 8.5 -> 8 (AnimeList)
+ Intense action
+ Stunning animation and refreshing art direction/style
Do I recommend this series to watch? Yes, if you like sci-fi shows with battle ships, high powered lasers, war, enthralling action, refreshing art style, and with an intriguing story. Aoki Hagane no Apreggio: Ars Nova is definitely the one for you.
