Nice to meet you virtually. Regarding your question about the Grendizer review and the Hokuto no Ken affair; it depends in which country you grew up in 1980s.
In French Speaking countries and France in particular, public and private TV channels were broadcasting anime everyday since 1980. They bought anime's right in Japan as a form of a batch for better price. Which means that the batch may contain animes for different type of audience but the TV channel were not fully cognizant of that. After all since Grendizer anime were a big success and attracted a lot of audience. Consequently, they were broadcasting anime for kids and teenagers in the same time slot. It was great because as kids, we were exposed to much more mature and complex story than the US cartoon for instance: Harlock, Saint Seiya, Cobra were broadcast in the afternoon for all to see. Some adults and some politicians were not happy about it because they thought it will make children violent or it will traumatized them. And then one day, the TV channels went too far in the eye of the adults...
