I stumbled upon Aoharu x Kikanjuu on complete accident when trying to figure out what to watch on Hulu. I hadn’t heard anything about it and the art caught my eye, so I decided to give it a try.
Aoharu x Kikanjuu follows Hotaru Tachibana, a girl who gets mistaken for a boy almost continuously, as she ends up getting drawn into the world of survival games. What I enjoyed is that these aren’t your average survival games where their actual lives are on the line for some reason or another. These survival games are fought with airsoft guns. I thought it
...
was innovative; it had all the action and suspense of an actual gun wielding anime without the numerous causalities. So, I thought this anime did well. It caught and maintained my interest throughout. It had its flaws of course, but I still enjoyed it.
Story: 8/10
What I loved the most was the different twist on the “survival game.” Instead of actual death, it’s all an airsoft game. Of course, some people criticize that this anime depicts airsoft poorly (I do not know anything about airsoft), but of course anime over-exaggerates. All those sport anime don’t actually portray what those sports are like in real-life, but we still love the anime. I felt that way about this airsoft-survival world we were given.
Another big aspect of this anime was the “gender bender,” which can get a little dull and ridiculous in my sole opinion, but this one handled it well. The main character, Tachibana, does not dress like a boy, yes she wears slacks, and has short hair, a long with a small chest, but she is not trying to be a boy. She just happens to prefer that style and everyone mistakes her for a boy. That’s a huge difference to me than normal gender benders. Also, with gender benders, it usually leads to awkward romance stories. This did not have that. This story focused on friendship, not romance.
The story does feel very fast paced and even though it’s a survival game anime, you don’t get much of the games. This anime had 12 episodes and instead of giving you more of the airsoft games you have more character interactions and the general world of airsoft. I, for one, wish they had given just a bit more of the games because they were awesome.
Characters: 7/10
There are only 12 episodes so character-development didn't really happen in this anime. It’s a shame, because I feel like they could have done a lot, but they didn’t fit it in. However, the characters themselves are interesting. You have a bunch of characters with twisted personalities, some more sinister and others more perverted. Either way I loved the sudden shifts in personalities, especially with main characters.
The backstories for some characters were given in brief tidbits, but a lot was left unexplained. That’s one of my biggest problems with the anime. They give you bits of backstory that could be really interesting, but they skim over it or bury it like it doesn’t really matter. Again, only so much you can do with 12 episodes, but the lack of explanation really irked me.
Art: 9/10
The art was gorgeous. Just awesome. The action scenes were so cool and I loved how they depicted airsoft war play. I wish they had more of it since it was so good.
Overall: 8/10
Overall, this anime was fast-paced, but I enjoyed it and easily binge watched the season. It’s the type of anime that pulls you in, shows you something new, and entertains. I personally enjoyed it very much. It’s the type of anime I want to see get a second season, and if not, I’ll gladly go find the manga to see where the story goes from here.

Inu x Boku SS is about characters descendant from spirits who live in a secluded mansion with their bodyguards. First off, I wanted to love this anime, but I couldn't, and I will get into that. The story follows Shirakiin Ririchiyo who has a distorted personality because of her past. She struggles to change herself and things begin to look brighter when she meets her bodyguard Miketsukami Sōshi. The anime wasn't awful but it didn't reach it's potential in my opinion and here's my breakdown:
Art: The art was beautiful. That's one thing this anime really had going for
...
it. It was a refreshing style I haven't seen much before.
Characters: The characters were each unique, though many lack change and that got a bit dull as the anime continued and the only characters I felt I really knew were the two main characters. I wanted more of the supporting characters, but when an anime is only 12 episodes long I guess you can't expect much.
Story: Here is where I have my problems with this anime. The anime started with momentum and I was hooked and then it just flatlined. I was bored out of my mind with the entire middle of this anime. Nothing was really happening. It was like I was being forced to watch filler episodes because that was all it was. Thank goodness the end was strong. The few beginning episodes and the three end episodes were the only ones worth watching. I would have given this anime such a higher rating if the rest of the episodes were like the beginning and end.
Overall, I find this anime frustrating because it could have been so good but it just lacked in the end. I'm assuming the manga is so much better (I haven't read it) but the anime was just lackluster.

I started watching Gangsta and everything about it pulled me in. The opening was awesome, the characters were all dynamic and intense, the world itself was full of darkness and filth. This anime had everything going for it, but then the last episode hit and it all crashed and burned...
So, Gangsta is an anime giving you a story full of prostitution, death, and slavery, so if you want something with a happy ending or even a slim silver lining, don't even bother. Gangsta is not that type of anime. I loved all the dark elements to Gangsta. I loved that
...
the characters all had dark pasts and futures devoid of any hope for themselves. It all just fit together so nicely.
The story itself begins with Worick and Nicolas, the Handyman, hired for the dirty jobs no one else can take on. We follow their lives and complicated relationship while learning more about this screwed up world. The story gives you many unique characters and tidbits of their complicated pasts, so you remain hooked as the story continues to slowly spiral into more chaos and violence, but then it ends. And the ending is so controversial I can see why some reviews are so low.
I am honestly so disappointed in the ending they gave, but I still recommend this anime for the sole purpose that it was refreshing with the characters and the story. Just beware of an unsatisfying ending...and maybe hope a second season will show up to fill the gigantic hole the anime left.

Most reviews for Owari no Seraph don't have many good things to say. This dystopian vampire story lacks a lot, but it's not terrible. I'll touch on some things I found repeated in many of the reviews I read before i decided to try Owari no Seraph and see for myself if it was horrible or decent.
So, one of the main lacking points for this anime is the plot. Many people say it's just a copy of Attack on Titan with vampires instead of titans. Well, they do have a point. Omari no Seraph has a main character who loses
...
his family to monsters, becomes revenge hungry, decides to join the army to fight the monsters, ends up being part monster himself. Yeah, basically the same as Attack on Titan, I can agree to that. HOWEVER, Owari no Seraph does diverge onto it's own path occasionally. For instance, the main reason I stuck with Owari no Seraph was because of the relationships between the characters. This anime does a nice job giving each character their own driving force and complicated past. It's really the characters that save this anime, because in my opinion, everything else just fell below the bar.
Overall, what I'm trying to say is don't let yourself get caught up in how Owari no Seraph is so similar to other anime, or else you'll never like it. Instead, just enjoy it for what it is, which is your generic shounen anime...with vampires.

I've started watching Soul Eater so many times before but I always ended up dropping it. Finally, after forcing myself to queue it up on my computer, I've finally finished it. What I can say is, overall, Soul Eater is an enjoyable anime with plenty of action and an interesting world to follow. However, as much as I think the anime is enjoyable, I rate it as just being okay. Here are a few reasons why:
Story:
The idea of Soul Eater is great and I was intrigued from the start by the idea, but then it just goes flat really quickly.
...
Part of it may be the humor. I'm usually a fan of comedy and action mixing together, but Soul Eater seemed to be trying too hard to be funny. The humor, in my opinion, was too childish and most times I found it an utter waste of time. Also, the plot of Soul Eater will drag and then all of a sudden pick up speed and keep you hooked and then will drag yet again. It's those dull moments that made me drop this anime so many times. So, if you want something that makes you feel like you need to keep watching...then this anime might not be it.
Characters:
The characters are all unique and each have their own strengths and weaknesses, which is refreshing and well-done for an anime...however I found I wasn't really connecting with the characters. I believe this is because you never really get to know the characters. So much of what made them who they are like their past or where they came from is vaguely touched upon. I felt like they missed so much opportunity by just dangling so colorful backstories in front of you but never going deep enough with them. I haven't read the manga, so maybe the characters are more lovable in the manga. I felt like I wanted to love the characters, but I was constantly feeling meh towards them.
Art:
The art is unique, which is one thing I'll give Soul Eater. Sometimes the motions seemed over-exaggerated, but the anime makes the style work so I didn't mind. The characters' expressions were also awesome and when the anime expresses "madness" the visuals are the absolute best!
In closing, I would recommend to give Soul Eater a try. You may end up immediately hooked or you'll end up like me, starting it then dropping it until you finally force yourself through those 51 episodes.

Before I started writing this view I skimmed through other reviews and saw that people either loved Death Parade or thought it was a let-down. From my rating of a 10 I'm one of those who loved this anime. However, I think I loved Death Parade so much because when I started watching it I had absolutely no idea what it was about. Nothing. Didn't even read a summary. That's how I recommend you watch this...though if you're on this page it means you've probably already figured out what this anime is all about, but anyway, on to my review.
I
...
loved so much about Death Parade. The art was gorgeous, I loved the animation, the characters felt real even if you didn't have much time to get to know them. And above all, I loved the story. The best part about this anime in my opinion, the story, is what many people have contradicting views on. I thought the story was well-thought out. The anime is only 12 episodes so we don't really dive deep into the world and how it functions etc. etc. all that good stuff. But the point of this anime is NOT the world we are given BUT the people in this world. It's all about the people and that's why I thought this anime was so good. Because we see every side of humanity, the good, bad, beautiful and ugly. And I loved all of it. So, don't let the contracting reviews prevent you from watching Death Parade. It's worth the watch in my opinion, and if it isn't your type of anime, well it was only 12 episodes.

I actually tried getting into this anime a while back but couldn't get past the second episode. I found myself confused and had no idea how the world in this anime functioned, plus, if I'm not immediately hooked I can't bring myself to forcefully watch something. That being said, I continued to see the anime K pop up everywhere and the art did appeal to me, so I thought I would give it a second chance. I'm so glad I did.
The first few episodes are a bit confusing because you are thrown into this world where people have these powers and their
...
are individuals referred to as "kings" but you have no idea how it all connects and who these random people are. However, do not give up like I originally did. The anime does explain it all, though you have to give it some time.
K's story itself wasn't amazing but it wasn't necessarily weak. The idea is interesting and the hunt for a particular king, The Colorless King, is what keeps you hooked. That and the art and action sequences.
My favorite part of K was the art. It's vibrant and I fell in love with the different action sequences and how each character has their own fighting style.
Though, if you're one who loves characters and their development I must warn you now, the characters are kinda mehhh. You like them, theer are some unique relationships between a few, but for some reason you can't get connected to them. I found them likable, but I didn't really care about them at the same time. That may be because the anime is so short (13 episodes) or maybe they are the type of characters you grow to love with more seasons. I can't really tell.
Overall, I enjoyed K and the story it told. The characters may not have tugged on my heartstrings but the art and action definitely kept me entertained.

Pandora Hearts is a dark-fantasy anime set in a new and complex world. We have dukedoms who strive to protect the world from this dark other-worldly dimension known as the Abyss and the creatures or "chains" that escape from it. We follow the main character, Oz, as his life is intertwined with a fate he can't escape after his coming-of-age ceremony. He meets a chain named Alice and from then on nothing is ever the same. I liked this anime because I found the story to be unique. You have a world filled with darkness, yet you have characters, such
...
as Oz, who strive to find the light. With that said, the characters are all complicated and unique in their own way, each somehow tied with the darkness slowly engulfing the world. The story moves at a smooth pace, though in all honesty, the end is a bit rushed and then it just falls flat. However, if you find yourself a fan of this anime, I highly recommend the manga, which is absolute perfection and my all-time favorite hands down no questions asked.

I've loved Kuroshitsuji since the beginning, though the second season left me more than a little confused, considering it went trailing off on it's own storyline rather than sticking with the manga. However, Kuroshitsuji: Book of Circus has come back on track with the manga including my all-time favorite ark. The art is beautiful and more crisp than season one. The characters are utter perfection and I found myself falling in love with Kuroshitsuji all over again.
I'm a fan of dark fantasy, which is why Kuroshitsuji is one of my favorites. Sebastian and Ceil are tied together by a dark and
...
disturbing fate, a key factor in this ark. The anime did an amazing job in giving the facts of Ceil's past, but also cluing in viewers who are unfamiliar with the initial story.
Overall, this Circus ark was moving and disturbingly beautiful. The characters are well-rounded and complex, the art is gorgeous, and you get to experience the classic Kuroshitsuji fun. I definitely recommend this to anyone, Kuroshitsuji fan or not.

I am a huge fan of D. Gray-Man's manga, the anime does a fair job of depicting a story I love so much. D. Gray-Man's story is interesting and the dark fantasy world that's created is fascinating. The story has plenty of feels and fight scenes to create a great mix of emotions and action. However, there are some filler episodes that just turned me off. They seemed cheap and completely distracted me from the flow of the story. I really do recommend D. Gray-Man, but save yourself the trouble and skip the filler episodes. If you do, you'll
...
find an anime with a colorful cast of characters each with their own demons, very real emotions, action at every turn, and an intriguing story.
If you watch the anime and like it, definitely try out the manga. The story that continues after the anime finishes is full of twist and turns.
