Qualidea Code, A-1 Pictures' new attempt at "cash grab" show for the summer 2016 season. This show had a certain hype behind it considering the studio behind it and their previous works, notably: Sword Art Online, Anohana, Your Lie In April and Silver Spoon among others.
Those of you who follow certain studios and look at their previous works will recognize that A-1 is a hit or miss studio. Sure they gave birth to shows like Erased and Your Lie in April which are greatly loved, but they also gave us Subete ga F ni naru and Aldnoah Zero which aren't great.
Sadly Qualidea Code falls upon
...
the lower end the line as (in my opinion) it isn't good. That isn't to say it isn't enjoyable I liked watching this (sort of) and you should attempt to watch it and form your own opinions.
Well onto the aspects of the show.
The plot for Q.C was honestly not bad I would go as far as to say it was good, it had interesting moments, some good twists and overall left me somewhat fulfilled as it closed up all the holes it seemed to have opened. Sure it could've been better but almost anything can be improved and they did fine as it is.
The art in this show has it's beautiful moments, the characters weren't bad looking, the world was fine but what let it down was the animation. Minor spoiler... I think but the ruined it's moments of action, the fight scenes, what some of us have been looking for in this show we're sub par at best. During moments of intensity when tensions are high and everything showed be awesome *kaboom* *bang*, that's the kind of stuff we look forward to, coupled with an awesome shounen show type fight moment we would be happy. Though we were let down, during these moments we just got still frames of what characters were doing.
The soundtrack was wonderfully done, rather than being dumped in to add effect A-1 used it to add tension and get the scene across well. In addition the voice actors played their parts well and managed to portray a good scene.
The characters like everything else were fine, nothing to really moan over with the exception of 1 or 2 whose personalities and actions mad me sigh. The were drawn well and well acted as I mentioned, they fit the scenes well which helped this show.
Qualidea Code is what I would expect from an A-1 pictures adaptation now a days, not to insult the studio because some of my favourite shows were put out by them, what I mean is that it feels raw, unrefined and just rough. If they had waited to put this out and polished the animation sequences it would've been in the upper levels of the summer 2016 chart but they didn't. I mean it was fine, I wouldn't watch it again once is plenty but I wouldn't be embarrassed to say I had watched it. Anyway I believe everyone reading should go watch an episode make your own opinion and then choose what to do because honestly it isn't bad but it isn't good. If I just threw paint at a wall someone would call it art, maybe you'll like it maybe you won't but hey it exists in case you want to try it. :D
