"Spirals....this town is contaminated with spirals."
-Uzumaki
As a big fan of horror genre in movies, television, etc; I kinda stumbled upon a manga named 'Human Chair' by Junji Ito. After reading that, I kinda got obsessed over his works. Within a month or so, I almost finished the whole Ito Junji manga collection. His style of writing and art were so bizzare, weird and complex, that they sometimes seemed relevantly scary, albeit with their own symbolism hidden inside them, some in plain sight. As the newfound fan inside me got hyped up on hearing that his works were going to be adapted into anime, I
...
was pretty excited. But after finishing the anime, my reactions are pretty mixed.
For starters, I expected more from the studio which developed some of my favourite anime, like Sakamoto desu ga? and Tonkatsu DJ Agetarou. The starting episodes were pretty messed up, but the later episodes containing stories from 'Long Dreams', and my personal favourite, the story of the seductress succubus, 'Tomie', were made really well. The opening and ending songs(Shichiten Battou no Blues by The Pinballs and Otagai no Uchuu by JYOCHO) really complement the anime, with a mix of peppiness and eeriness, which haunt you for a while.
The art style seems a bit out of place, compared to the pen work of Junji Ito himself. His art is the best feature of his works, which show a gamut of emotions using facial expressions. Droppy eyes, exaggerated mouth, pointy teeth, etc are his trademark strokes.
Overall, compared to the manga, Studio Deen has done a decent job on adapting the manga onscreen. Nevertheless, it was good to watch his creations come alive on screen, much like my dream of seeing the characters from Goosebumps onscreen, a distant dream.

"Friendship is something that defies words or logic"
-Said by Tomohiro Nagatsuka to Shouya Ishida
This was the first, and probably the only quote, that caught my attention in the whole movie. Little did I know that this quote would prove to be a reflection of a feeling which everyone experiences at least once in the point of their lifetime.
Friendship really defies logic and words. We choose our friends not by their status, religion, caste, creed or colour. Rather, we feel a strong and unexplainable connection, when we make friends. Friendship can be given a meaning, but cannot be explained or elaborated upon, unless a person experiences
...
that feeling with another individual. Friendship is, more than a relationship. It's a connection which cannot be experienced by mere words, but rather be savoured upon with loved ones.
Koe no Katachi deals with friendship with rather a slight change of perspective, by venturing out into the dark world of Bullying. The negative impact of bullying is experienced by each an every one of us at a certain point in our life. But what if someone has the power to forgive the one who has bullied you countless times with not even a single bit of remorse? Shall it be considered as the pinnacle of humanity, or shall the person who decided to act this brave, be condemned by the society for being too compassionate?
“Do I not destroy my enemies when I make them my friends?” might be a relevant quote said by Abraham Lincoln himself, which I find rather amusing and difficult enough to follow in real life. This happens due to the inferiority complex born in every human being, who normally do not tend to follow the principle of "Forgive and Forget". Anger and hatred clouds the ethical and rational part of our brain, and sometimes makes us do grave mistakes which we cannot even fathom to think about with a sane mind.
This movie deals with elementary school student Shouya Ishida, who is a carefree youth in his elementary school days, pranking around with his friends in a harmless manner. Enter the deaf girl Shouko Nishimiyo, who is a cheerful and bubbly girl, and no matter how Ishida teases and pranks around with her, she tries to be friends with him.
After his pranks get escalated, Nishimiya is forced to transfer into another school by her mother, and Ishida is solely blamed for his wrongdoings. He gets ostracized and neglected for being a prankster and a bully. After reaching high school, he tries to meet Nishimiya, and he somewhat forms a good friendship with her. But circumstances force them both to go down the path of guilt. Ishida becomes depressed thinking about the cruel things he did to Nishimiya, and she laments on how Ishida had to suffer because of her, and his life would have been better, had she not been a part of it.
Things become a bit difficult for both of them to be with each other, and without each other too. They both want to repent for their mistakes and do whatever they can to make each other happy.
Both Ishida and Nishimiya are shown as victims here, that is the main reason why I liked this film so much. It also shows from the perspective of a bully, about how Ishida struggles to cope up without a father and seeing his mother pay for his cruel deeds. He goes up to the point of committing suicide, which becomes a real depressing scene indeed. On the other hand, Nishimiya, who is bullied by Ishida, laments upon how she is unable to confess her feelings for Ishida, and her main aim was only to be friends with Ishida, no matter how much he hated her in the past.
The psychological exploration of both the characters' perspectives on their deeds is sure a masterpiece job done by the director. As far as the story progresses, it turns into a different direction than I expected. The soundtracks complement the moods of the characters shown in the film. The slight romantic track shown in the film is really painful to witness, knowing about the past of both of the characters, and how they stand at a crossroads after forming a friendship, regardless of the past deeds done by them respectively.
Apart from these things, what I found interesting is the way Ishida is shunned by his friends. He is condemned by his comrades for bullying Nishimiya, albeit they were a part of it too. Also, Nishimiya has the heart to forgive Ishida, but his friends, who were part of his bullying, never had the nerve to do so. This show a darker and albeit depressing side of humanity, that whosoever you think are close to you, might end up going away from you once you are condemned and labelled by the society, even though you might not have been as cruel as they see you. Also, Nishimiya's feelings are the most painful, because, to forgive someone who does wrong to you, and lament about a mistake you never did, is the worst thing a person could live with, his entire life.
These are the reasons that this movie is certainly worth a watch, even though it becomes a little hard to digest due to its venture into the depressing side of humanity.
These little things make this movie a masterpiece, and one of a kind.

Spoilers ahead, be aware!
Critics, Please spare!
To quote Goku from the movie "Go home. I ain't gonna think less of you if you choose to leave."
This sums up my reaction as an audience after watching this movie.
As a serial DBZ fan since childhood(note the word serial), I have thought of Frieza as the most fearsome villain of all the DBZ Universe, that is, untill I saw Cell Saga. Even though Frieza is a bit over rated in DBZ series(apart from the fact that he has a brother named Cooler, for God's sake), he is one of the most formidable characters in DBZ Universe( I'm leaving Super
...
Buu behind, since I still have to catch up on that part later). Also, in DBZ Battle of Gods , when mentioned about his defeat by the hands of Goku by his angel Whis, even Lord Beerus acknowledges about him and his defeat. Such may be the power of "Lord Frieza." These expectations are not even a bit fulfilled after watching this movie.
For starters, this movie shows his revival after his death by the hands of Future Trunks(Mecha Frieza, baby). He is revived by the only one reason of his declining reign, by the new commander of his battalion Sorbet and his second in-command, Tagoma. After revival, he trains for three months and, apparently, gains a new form, self proclaimed by him as "Golden Frieza".
This comes as no surprise, as everybody knows about Frieza's might. But this is a tad bit too much of a might to show off, even for him. And by he way, how does he match the power of Super Saiyan God, after training for only three months? There must be a logic behind this. Also, he is shown a bit too cocky for his power, unbeknownst of the Super Saiyan God transformation achieved by Goku and Vegeta.
To be honest, this movie could have only been made for nostalgia. Even if Frieza leaves the DBZ Universe, the vice-versa may not be possible, from the likes of this movie. Also, while mentioning about Gohan, he is shown utterly powerless here, compared to the bravery he showed while fighting the second form of Frieza in Namek. He easily gets injured by Frieza in his primary form, even though he is powered up to Super Saiyan 2(effect of Frieza's training, perhaps).
The fight scenes look like they have been replaced from a video game sequence. Goku and Frieza looks like caricatures while fighting. Apart from that, Super Saiyan God is worth a watch.
Nevertheless, Frieza is a character to lookout for, even if he is not revived for a third time. Also, there is a mention of Goku and Vegeta's vulnerabilities by Whis himself, while he trains with them. This information may prove useful for those who are going to watch Dragon Ball Super, after this movie, which are related closely. Sound tracks are great, especially the theme of Frieza is spine chilling and it really suits him.
Hence, I can say that, I was partly satisfied with the movie, and for the fact that even Frieza acknowledged the results of a good training, which is shown in his new golden form. I hope that this movie may prove to be meaningful in the upcoming episodes of Dragon Ball Super, and Frieza is given a worthy role in it.

"Killing is the worst decision a spy can ever take."
Joker game is a tribute to spies and how they become the unsung heroes behind a nation's victory and triumph.
Joker game is set in an era before World War II, where enemy countries are plotting against Japan. An army man named Colonel Yuuki, starts a clandestine spy agency, known as D-Agency, to gather intel on the planned out terror attack against Japan.
The characters stand out throughout the anime, as their stories are narrated by flawless narration. Colonel Yuuki proves to be a powerful and mysterious character, and his transformation in the end, proves to
...
be quite a heart warming one, albeit a dangerous gamble. The sound tracks are peppy, hummable and easy on the ears.
Watch it, if you are a fan of spy thrillers, and be prepared for some logical mind bending.
