Having recently watched Gurren Lagan for the 1st time I was really interested in show that appeared recently with very similar concepts. Also, i always like a "father/daughter" story because i feel like we don't get a lot of those (the only good one i can remember being Usagi Drop). But sadly, i was highly disappointed in this anime.
STORY: 3/10
It had everything going for it in the 1st episode, but then it kinda fizzled out. The good part is that the show tries to focus way more on this Father/daughter relationship, than on the mecha aspect (because honestly we have more than enough of that.).
...
The bad part is that it doesn't do it well. The studio asked the question "How do we make this father character and this daughter character, who are polar opposites, interact with each other? Well, just make them argue and bicker with each other every time they speak.". This is literally the whole show. There is one scene where the dad shows some heroism and the daughter is finally grateful for something but after it, the characters just go back to arguing with each other, like nothing happened. If you enjoy a grown ass man and a genius child screaming at each other about none-sense for 20 minutes, you might find some enjoyment in Sakugan.
ART: 9/10
I am surprised that the way this anime looks has gone so under the radar. The animation is about what you would expect off an good mecha anime but the it's the backdrops and how the settings are presented that really sell this show. You can tell so much about specific places just by looking at them. The complicated cave system, the underground rendition of Paris and Venice, The bits of life spurting out in this otherwise baron world, it is truly beautiful.
SOUND: 5/10
I mean, its nothing to really write home about, but it isn't really bad. I didn't like the OP although it does fit in with the themes of this show. And the EP was so amazing that a genuinely cant remember it. If you told me it didnt have one, i would believe you.
CHARACTER: 2/10
This is the first time ever when i watch an anime and literally every single one of the characters is completely unlikable. Even with the shows i hate the most i can usually find 1 character i kinda like. With this one, no. Lets start wit the MCs: Firstly, the daughter is annoying as all fuck. She just throws a fit every time things don't go her way, she doesn't listen to anyone, she keeps saying extremely mean things to her father but we are supposed to like her because she is "smart and adventures". Her father is an asshole. I THINK that he isn't even supposed to be likable because of how much the show berates him even when its clear that he says what he says and does what he does because he is worried about his daughter. Either way, he is a dick who acts like a man-child and is clearly not fit to be a father. The side characters range from "so cliche it hurts" to "contradict themselves in 2 episodes".
Sakugan does an extremely shit job here.
ENJOYMENT: 4/10
If you are entertained by 2 people having a family argument every 5 minutes they spend in each others presence then you might find some enjoyment in Sakugan. The most infuriating part is that somewhere in there, behind all the plot-holes and annoying characters, there is some enjoyment to be found, but its usually taken away from you fairly quickly. Every time a character is about/in the middle of doing something cool they get interupted by, guess what?? more arguing.
ENDING STATEMENT: I didn't have high expectations for Sakugan so i cant really say it's disappointing, but i can say its underwhelming. I cant see myself remembering this anime's existence in 2 weeks. I'm sorry but i don't recommend wasting your time with Sakugan.

When i saw that MAPPA was making an adaptation of a manga by the artist of Kobayashi's Maid dragon and the author of Interspieces reviewers, needless to say i was pretty hyped.
STORY: 6/10
As you have probably read in the other reviews, the story really isn't the best par about this show. Don't go into this expecting an amazing story and a roller-coaster of emotions. The whole story could be described in a sentence or two. Its not a basic story though. It's basically gods vs demons but no-one is the good guy. I really liked the fact that the demons and gods really differed from
...
each-other. The show could have taken the easy route and make everybody extremely strong but some of the gods are more smart than strong, i really liked that. Whats more is that as expected when you see "made by the author of Intespieces reviewers" you should expect the show to be morally bankrupt. I mean that was probably the most unnecessary 1st episode rape scene of all time. It gets a generous 6.
ART: 9/10
This is why you watch this anime. The fighting scenes and the art. And it delivers. The fights scenes are awesome and all the backgrounds look great. The only problem i have is the animation in some of the scenes without any action going on. If MAPPA's other upcoming anime looks like this i will be happy.
SOUND 9/10
The OP is the best one of the year so far for me. It perfectly describes the show and i have been listening to it since the 1st episode. The sound design is amazing and ED ain't too bad either.
CHARACTER: 8/10
The character designs are pretty good and some of them are pretty original but the main 3 is disappointingly unoriginal but it gets very carried by the side-characters: Miku, Rin and Protean are some of the best but the others are also awesome in their own way.
ENJOYMENT: 10/10
It is fun. It is some of the most fun i have ever had watching an anime. I do love the actions scenes and even the story keeps me interested. If you just want to sit back and just enjoy some kick-ass action this is the perfect anime.
ENDING STATEMENT: If i could only use one word to describe this anime it would be FUN. A lot of reviewers don't realise that sometimes an anime doesnt have to have an interesting story to be good. I really love the show and i hope you will all check it out and enjoy is as i did (cant wait for the 2nd season).

After MAPPA's C team last original sports anime (Taisou samurai) i cant say i was hyped for this show. But i'm always up for a sports anime, especially if it is a sport i dont know much about.
STORY: 6/10
It seems that MAPPA is trying to do this "really emotional sports anime" thing. Kinda like Hoshiai no Sora did but with better animation. What you risk while doing this is losing the "sports" part of your sports anime which you could say happens here. There are 2 and a half games of water polo in this water polo anime. And the games we do get feel
...
rushed, like we are just speeding trough the minutes of the game. However the show does feel emotional and shows how painful memory loss can be. Its kinda fucked up how belittled it is by the characters in the show. Also i like the change in the main character, its rare that we get both a nice and antagonistic main character.
ART: 7/10
I mean, its about what you would expect from MAPPA's C team. Not good but not bad. You would expect better of a sports anime tbh. There are some scenes that look really good but they are fan and between.
SOUND: 6/10
Sports anime is the kind of thing where sound design is more important than music. RE-Main does the 1st thing decently and the latter badly. The sound design is good and the sound of the ball hitting the net is satisfying but i expected more, especially from an sport that takes place in water(one of the most beautiful things in anime). The music is forgettable.
CHARACTER: 8/10
The characters are pretty good. It has some originality here but not a lot. It has the reliable captain, and the guy that is sad he sucks but the main character is grade and i liked the transfer student from Africa. As i said, it doesn't really make sense that people belittle the MC's amnesia but the characters are fun and not too basic. I also like the side plot-line of the brother rivalry.
ENJOYMENT: 7/10
I just wanted more games, it honestly is better towards the end when we get to see the water polo. Watching the main character face his amnesia and the results of his own actions is interesting and somehow makes you want to know of his background. But it really isn't that interesting to see them train try to figure out a team jersey.
ENDING STATEMENT: The biggest problem with RE-Main is its consistency. Its either good or bad, never somewhere in-between, but i do feel that MAPPA is heading into the right direction with these sports anime but i think it will take some time before they create a classic.

The duke of death and his maid. One of many "liked by anime-only's disliked by manga readers" type of anime. As an anime only, you can probably guess my opinion on this show.
STORY: 8/10
You might have been like me, read the synopsis and thought that this is a drama filled love story of a man who kills everything he touches. It is not that. Its more of a rom/com with drama elements added to it to make it a liitle bit more interesting. Either way, the story is pretty good, its nothing that we haven't seen before, "the teasing girl and the flustered boy", but
...
this anime makes it way more interesting by the curse the MC has. Half of the time while watching this show you are looking for the director or animators to make a mistake and have the duke touch something with-out it dying (doesnt happen), for the other half you will just be sad about the fact that he CANT touch anything. Really, the show manages to make you feel bad for the duke and realise how hard it is to not be able to touch anything and always pay attention.
ART: 6/10
Lets address the elephant in the room and the reason manga readers don't like this very much. Its full CGI, and it doesn't look too great. It certainly isn't a beastars or dorehodoro but i dont think it awful. Yeah the characters look stiff and robotic sometimes, but people tend to forget that it really looks good sometimes. I think its that it looks good while characters are moving, but starts to feel weird when its just 2 characters talking. The show knows this and tries to fix it with a quicker pacing but its a band-aid on an open wound. Its sub-par but you have to respect them for trying.
SOUND: 6/10
Disappointing. In a full CGI anime, music is important. You have to take the attention off the animation for a second sometimes so having great music is a must. The duke of death and his maid kinda fail. The OP sucks and the ED isn't much better. The music during the show isn't much better. It boils down to basic rom/com music but sometimes when we get the duke playing the piano it can get pretty good but those moments are far and between.
CHARACTER: 7/10
Nothing too special here. The duke and the maid are good characters and their relationship is really well written and the side-characters are OK, nothing too special but they are tolerable, except the brother who is annoying and unfunny but the rest are ok.
ENJOYMENT: 8/10
I was really curious about how the duke will cure his curse so thee show always kept me interested its a fun experience and i didn't find myself waiting for an episode to end. I cant say its an emotional roller-coaster or that i wish it never ended but it was fun.
ENDING STATEMENT: Well, this is best full CGI rom/com there is, because its the only one. Jokes aside this a good show, a show that proves something, even rom/coms can be full CGI. I will be waiting for season 2 patiently.

Vanitas no karte or The book of Vanitas is the underrated anime of the season, if not the year. I have to confess that once i read the synopsis i was kinda doubtful, it just seemed like a basic vampire story. It was much more than that, here is why.
STORY 7/10
We aren't starting off to greatly, but its a BONES anime. And what are BONES anime? GOOD animation BAD story. Hell they had 1 good story to adapt from a manga and it turned into the anime of a generation (MHA). Still, The book of Vanitas has an interesting concept and plot but it fails
...
to flesh it out. It kinda feels like it ends right as things get really interesting. We have seen the "character wants to save the people who hate him" plot-line before, but mixing in the supernatural elements of vampires and the story concept of a big conspiracy by the government against the MC gives it the feeling of something fresh.
ART: 8/10
I think that taking into consideration the studio that worked on the anime, before reviewing is important. Hence The book of Vanitas gets an 8 in art. The anime looks good and the fight scenes are flashy and cool. The locations look interesting and the re-imagination of Paris looks amazing and imaginative. Saying all that, does this compare to some of BONES's other works? No, but it does look great.
SOUND: 7/10
Not a whole lot to say, the OP is really good and i liked the funky feeling it had, the EP kinda sucked imo, the music during the show is unnoticeable (not that that is a bad thing) and the sound effect are decent, an easy 7.
CHARACTER: 9/10
I really really liked the characters in this anime. Vanitas is a great, mysterious MC and Noe is a surprisingly realistic character with a great backstory and motives. The villain is great, i like how controlling he is and all the side-characters are great. I really like Jeanne and how she was portrayed at the start compared to the end of the show. The voice-actors are talented being able to easily flip between an serious and an comedic situation (as the anime frequently does).
ENJOYMENT: 7/10
Maybe its because the episodic "feel" that the show has while being a fluid story but i never looked forward to an episode as much as for other series. The show never uses cliff-hangers or stops at high-tension moments, the battle almost always end at the end of the episode, which doesn't give the watcher the incentive to binge-watch the whole show in a day. Is it entartaining? Yeah. Is it an cant-miss experience? No.
ENDING STATEMENT: The show is an overall great experience but it can do some things in the 2nd season to iron things out and enter the realm of long popular anime that i think it strives for. We will see, the 2nd season has a lot of thing riding on it, lets see if it delivers.

When i was making my list for the anime i would watch in the summer 2021 season GxG caught my eye because it looked like a basic rom/com that could maybe build upon a weird concept. I 100% didn't expect it to be a "parody". Well actually, it kinda isn't.
STORY: 3/10
When i 1st saw the 1st episode and saw that this was pretty much a parody of the harem and romance genre i stupidly and ignorantly told myself: "Hey, maybe this could be the Konosuba of romance". How wrong and dumb i was. After a promising 1st episode the show hits a wall in every
...
sense. The jokes become very repetitive and the characters go from amusingly exaggerated to annoying. The show constantly points at its plot-holes (like a lot of parodies do) but just ignores them instead of making jokes on that. Out of the 5 episodes i watched 2 of them felt like filler. Overall extremely disappointing and bad.
ART: 7/10
I cant lie. Even if i do not like the show the animation is pretty good. The visual comedy is probably the funniest part about this car-crash and it has the quality you would expect from an anime like this. It isn't anything we haven't seen before and it doesnt compare to some of the other shows that are airing this season. (ex:Dragon Maid-sama S2)
SOUND: 7/10
Again, I cant really say the music is horrible, actually, I really enjoyed the OP and ED and the sound design was actually done pretty well. The only problem i would have is the sometimes over-repetitive music is present (like most romances done by small studios) but overall the sound is the best part about the show. Don't go in expecting too much tho.
Character: 3/10
From the best part we go to the worst. It gets a 3 because Saki is an amazing character and perfect for a parody, her voice-acting is amazing and she is build really well. As for everyone else, utter garbage. The MC might be the worst character of this season and Nagisa is so void of a personality that it hurts. Rika seems to be the same as Nagisa so far. The characters are the 2nd most important part of a parody and this show fumbles them hard.
Enjoyment: 3/10
Other than the 2nd episode i didn't really find myself excited for any of the new episodes or encouraged to watch more at a time. Actually i find the latter impossible because of the repetitive jokes and annoying characters. In the end it feels like a chore to watch, and about mid-way through the 3rd episode i already realised that GxG isn't going to be good anytime soon. It was the most boring show this season by far.
ENDING STATEMENT: Its rare that we get a parody anime. It's even rarer that it actually is good. Girlfriend x Girlfriend isn't. Even if i didn't like it i hope Tezuka Productions bounces back from this and gets some better manga/LN to adapt because they have shown that they can deliver on the technical side. Even so, i cant recommend this show to anyone.

I was shocked when i heard Higehiro was getting an anime adaptation. It just seemed like the kinda manga that would always just remain a manga. Either way if you want i short version of my review ill just say it here: Anime gets carried by the source material.
STORY: 7/10
Despite my previous statement you might think i love the story of this show. All tough it is the best part of this show i have to agree that the main point of the story is kinda weird. But its all fiction so that really doesn't matter. The interesting thing Higehiro tries to do is mix
...
a serious drama slice of life with a feel-good slice of life. I like that concept and i feel the show does a great job. The big problem i have is the authors clear non-dedication to some plot-lines. He just introduces characters to rival the main heroine for like 2 episodes max and then we forget about it. It has a lot of, what i call, "plot-advancing characters". Basically characters that were introduced strictly to advance the shows plot. Most of the time they are introduced out of nowhere and become absolute once the author is done using them. I hate those kind of characters and i hope romance and drama anime would stop doing that.
ART: 4/10
Here it starts going down-hill. Look, i know this anime is this studios largest project ever an they are really small but settling for mediocrity is never acceptable. As it is a lot of times with these smaller studios the anime starts of looking great, about what you would expect from a studio of their size. But as the end approaches you start to notice that the animation looks really bad in some scenes and some rookie mistakes start to show up. Misspellings in words (Luch menu) and things being out of place after a scene ends. Either way, I hope Project No.9 learns from their mistakes and makes sure the next one is better.
SOUND: 2/10
BUT HOLY SHIT PLEASE FIRE WHOEVER IS RESPONSIBLE FOR THE MUSIC FFS. I've heard youtube series with better music wth was that. I'm surprised the director wasnt at any point like: "Hmmm, maybe putting the loudest fucking "sad song" over this sad scene isnt the best way to do music in an anime.". Higehiro has 4 song it recycles trough and i can name all of them: The "oh shit somethings going on one", the lets be sad one, the everything is fine one and that ear-scratching guitar song. They are all way too loud, sometimes being louder than the dialogue. And I don't want to get into a rant but ill just say that that guitar tune is probably the worst song i have ever heard in any anime i have watched. The only saving grace is the OP which earns this show a 2 in sound.
CHARACTER: 5/10
This anime suffers from "slice of life symptom". This symptom causes the main character of the show to be the only ones with anything interesting about them. Everyone else just ends up being literal side-characters. As someone once said, you want your main character to be part of the world, not the world itself, and this is an anime where The MC and the heroine are the world. We never get to know anyone else apart from the main girls best friend. Yoshida is a total chad and i love his character, its rare that we get an MC that actually thinks before he acts and the Sayu portrays a troubled high school girl that thinks she can run away from her problems in a great way.
ENJOYMENT: 8/10
With everything i said above you might think i hate this show but no, not at all. It was actually one of the most fun watches of this season. Its one of those shows that you just watch as you turn your brain off and smile. Very soap-opera like. And i enjoy that kinda thing a lot. It ended up being one of the shows i looked towards the most (3rd behing Tokyo Revengers and Megalo box).
ENDING STATEMENT: Is Higehiro a good show? I wouldn't say so. Should i watch it? If you have time, hell yes. Its not a must watch but if you are looking for something to satisfy your drama/slice of life/romance needs this show will do it for you. I recommend this one to anyone who has the time to check it out.

When 86 was first announced i cant really say i was super excited. I heard the source material was really good but the synopsis didn't really look all that interesting. Lets say i was pleasantly surprised.
STORY: 8/10
The story is a powerful one. It focuses on some things i hope anime would explore more. The theme of war being way uglier behind the scenes than on the forefront and the way higher ups act towards the people that actually do the fighting. The metaphor of not seeing the "soldiers" as human but only robots made for fighting, and the discrimination of people that have different physical
...
features. This anime focuses a lot on that, so much so that it sometimes causes problem for the plot-line. Creating plot-holes and illogical situations in the name of sending a message is never good. Either way such things are rare and in a general sense the story is great.
ART: 8/10
The animation is beautiful. The fights are awesome and the CGI looks great.
The show looks really good but it just looks like it has something missing. Probably originality. I will go more in detail in the characters section but the shows general art-style is boring and something we have seen 100 times before.
SOUND: 7/10
Something i am noticing is more and more anime seem to follow this "no music during fights" theme. Its good once in a while but when you do it every single fight it starts being annoying. The music during the show isn't really noticeable, which is not a bad thing, the music being really quiet is way better than it being super loud.. At 1st i didn't like the OP but it kinda grew on me and it also fits the style of the show.
CHARACTER: 6/10
If we are looking at the way the characters act, this anime does great. It realistically simulates how real people in the same situation would act and how real people act in the world we all live in. The problems come when we look at the character designs. Everyone is SO BASIC. Good job on giving them memorable names cuz if the MC's names weren't Milize and Undertaker i wouldn't know how to call them. I dont know why they didn't try to do better with the characters. Basic white haired girl that cares about everyone, black haired edge-lord, really cool guy with a scar, energetic blonde haired guy, red-hair tsundere, and these are only the most important members of the 86. In the end its kinda disappointing.
ENJOYMENT: 7/10
Did i look forward to every single episode of 86 like i was a kid waiting for my birthday? No. Was i always interested in what will happen next in the story? Yes. I guess what i'm trying to say is that this show will keep you interested in the themes its trying to push but the anime in general really isn't something you could binge-watch.
ENDING STATEMENT: The anime as a whole isn't really something special but i feel the story could become amazing if built upon and i will 100% be there for a season 2. I recommend checking this one out if you have time

*This review does not contain spoilers*
When i first heard about Vivy: FES i was wondering why nobody was talking about it. I mean, everybody said that it was an amazing show. Needless to say, i went into this show with big expectations.
STORY: 3/10
Before i get murdered i feel obliged to say that i do not enjoy "music" anime, like, in general. The most i could watch was K-on, anything more than that and i get bored. "B-But this show is much more than that!!" I hear you say. And i agree that after watching the 1st episode i was saying to myself: "WOW, this
...
is amazing" but i also said: "Man i hope this doesn't just turn into a basic "saving the wold" kind of story" and it did. I like shows that i have a difficult time to explain to my friends. Shows that make me think. Vivy doesn't. Its literally robots saving the most world from robots. For people who have played Detroit: Become Human you know that this is the worst route in that game, so there you go. For me, it is very basic and the fact that we have seen almost the exact same story before, doesn't help it. The show has its originality, like the MC being an singer and the time-traveling stuff but it really isn't too much to make it a completely original story. The pacing is way too slow and the show has some glaring plot-holes that it just chooses to ignore.
ART: 9/10
Even if i do not like the story i have to admit that this is the best looking show of this year (so far). The animation looks amazing, and it looks like the people who made it really loved what they were making. The action scenes flow well and the normal scenes have enough movement into them to keep you watching. The only issue i saw (which i have to dock a point for) is the SGI that is very hit and miss. Sometimes (like most of the scenes with the cube) it looks great but there are times where it looks plain awful.
SOUND: 5/10
This is where personal bias kicks in. I do not like Japanese music. That is way, when a show manages to get me to listen to an OP or ED or even a song from the show, its doing things great. Vivy hasnt done that. The song in the singing segments are so bad I skip and they try to play the music in important scenes, where its so loud and bombastic it distracts you from any semblance of interest you had in the lack-luster story. Tell me, what is your favorite anime fight scene of all time? Does it have the most basic ass J-POP song blaring over it? Probably not. Also, i have to say that even if i dont like the music, i am not fucking deaf, so i can tell that the voice-actress for Vivy has an amazing voice and did a really good job for what she was given, huge props to her.
CHARACTERS: 7/10
This is a department where Vivy does decently in. Vivy is a really great character and (as i said above) the voice-actress did an amazing job and Matsumoto is also a really great character. Other than that the show doesnt really have other characters. The other robots, whom are irrelevant and some guy. It does just enough to get a 7.
ENJOYMENT: 3/10
This is the biggest problem i had with this show. It just bored me to death. The 1st episode is amazing. It hooks you and just doesn't let you get your eyes of the screen. But after that, the pacing slows down to a crawl. Don't get me wrong, slow pacing isn't bad (Monogatari series is a prime example), but to do it right you have to tell me something interested, make me want to pay attention. Here they just repeat the same shit over and over again, wasting time. The action scenes are really good, and a saving grace but they are really far and between.
ENDING STATEMENT: I was highly disappointed with this one. I was expecting an amazing anime, but in the end i just got more and more bored, until the point where it felt like a chore to watch. The first episode was amazingly done but after that i think the show is really lack-luster. I recommend staying away from this one.

Officially the most over-looked anime of the 2021 winter season, Beastars basks in a great SGI and attracting story and in being furry bait. Joking aside, I have a lot of things to say about this series.
STORY: 6/10
From a decent story about segregation and completely different races trying to live together it turns into a murder mystery. Even if it's less original, i am a sucker for mystery so i don't really mind. Still the mystery story isn't that good. It was kinda obvious who the murderer was and the ending fight was kinda boring. I understand that the characters are like that but when
...
one of them looks like he's about to tear shit up and then starts talking about some dumb stuff that doesn't matter it really ruins what could have been a good scene. Still, somehow the show always kept me hooked. I cant say I ever got bored but the show dropped in quality as it aired.
ART: 8/10
I never thought i would say this but: The scenes that are drawn look out of place in all the SGI. Its not a huge problem but i just thought I'd mention it. Also I think that this show not being the only high budget full SGI show out now (of course i am talking about Durarara). It just doesn't look as impressive, but that doesn't mean it's not good. Beastars still looks amazing and has an art-style that you don't really meet anywhere.
SOUND: 9/10
Beastars has one of the most under-rated music in the history of anime. the OP and EP are bangers and the music during the show is always amazing. I don't understand why there aren't more people talking about it. The only problem i would have is that there are 2 or 3 times when the music is louder than the characters talking.
CHARACTER: 4/10
Really disappointing to be honest. NO new characters that important are introduced from season 1. You would think this would mean they could build on characters that already exist but no. The show introduces characters we never meet again and tricks us into thinking that they will be important in the future. But then Beastars ends and they literally disappear. Our MC Legosi, and Louis end up carrying the show.
ENJOYMENT: 7/10
I cant say I was hyped for every episode like i was for other series airing at the same time but as I said before, I never got bored watching it. My review may look bad but i enjoyed myself while watching the show.
ENDING STATEMENT: I think the 2nd season was worse than the 1st but I still recommend you watch the whole show. Its not going to be the best anime you'll ever watch but it is an experience you need to go through.
