We had agreement on taste until Vivy. You need to be paying really close attention to be able to appreciate the small details in the changing personality of Vivy while she tries to find her own humanity. I recommend you give it another watch and pay more close attention to it. It's not just a story about "saving the world from evil robot", in fact I would say that that is not even the best part of the show and rather just a shell to present other themes and aspects of the story. Pay more attention to the character development. Also the fight scenes are fucking incredible and this anime is stupidly beautiful.
