Well, people only say that FMA:B is better because it's based on the legitimate source material; the manga. It actually follows the manga almost perfectly, while the original FMA had to improvise their own story, because the manga wasn't finished during the time of that anime's conception. If you look at both of them and decide which is better based on the legitimate canon of their stories, yes, FMA:B is the better of the two. But, if you close your mind from that sort of observation, the original FMA is actually better than FMA:B in a lot of aspects, especially the pacing in the beginning. The only real problem with the original FMA (without caring whether it's canon to the original source material), is that the ending wasn't particularly comprehensible. But, some may like the complexity of the plot. FMA:B had a fairly simple plot, however, which made it easier to follow and enjoy for a larger audience, as well as being the original story from the manga. I honestly liked how they used the Homunculus concept better in the original FMA, where, they weren't created by some guy named "Father", they were created by accident, by the people who tried human transmutation and failed. The appearance of the homunculi in FMA were based on who the person that used human transmutation were trying to bring back to life, so, in turn, with the Elric brothers trying to bring their mother back, they created a homunculus that looked like their mother. Their mother's homunculus was Sloth in the original anime (you can already tell that'll be a hard fight for the Elric brothers, with it looking like their mother and all), and the big, buff male Sloth in FMA:B didn't exist. Lust's appearance was based on Scar's brother's wife he tried bringing back, and eventually Lust remembers him, gains empathy, and turns good, in the original FMA. I also like how the original FMA tackled the Maes Hughes death. It was more impacting, in my opinion. I also liked the humor of Roy Mustang way more in the original, "When I'm Fuhrer, thing will be different around here. ALL FEMALE OFFICERS WILL BE REQUIRED TO WEAR... TINY MINISKIRTS!" Etc, etc. There's a lot of good in the original, you just have to shut out of your brain the fact that it isn't how the manga told the story, and enjoy it as its own individual anime, because, that's what it is. I like both anime adaptations equally, liking some aspects, from each, better than the other. I'm not gonna tell you to put it at higher priority, but, I'm just saying you should consider watching it, at all. It's a good watch, with its own sequel movie that helps explain a bit more of what happens in the complex ending of the anime. It's quite interesting. Here, lemme link you an AMV (anime music video) giving a taste of the original FMA, if you're interested; http://youtu.be/FTYYX4sHJuc
Regarding Sword Art Online, I didn't hate it, but, it wasn't the best show I've ever seen, either. It was your typical Gary Stue protagonist in a generic, trope-filled shounen, with unnecessary harems and oddly placed subtle fan-service. However, I really did like the setting and the action of the show, and I did like Kirito's (protagonist) perseverance. But, the character development was a bit sluggish, the pacing was a tad quick at times, and the plot is separated into two major arcs, both in different settings altogether, making the narrative feel inconsistent. And, to top it all off, both arcs end in deus ex machina plot writing, where, while in a hopeless situation with no way out, an unexplained event comes to save the day, fixing everything out of nowhere. Those are the worst plot devices, in my opinion, but, sometimes shows can use it effectively, while still explaining why it happened. With SAO, that's simply not the case. They also took a amazingly badass character from the first arc, and turned her into a damsel in distress that needs saving, in the second arc. That save the princess trope is truly outdated. It's a generic shounen romance under the guise of an action adventure. If you watch the show with a critical eye, it's pretty poor, but, if you shut the logic side of your brain off, it can still be quite enjoyable and not a total waste of time. It's your call, either watch it out of curiosity, or drop it now. xD
Also, pardon the wall of text. I tend to get really engaged and have a lot to say, when it's about things I'm passionate about, such as anime. You'll have to get used to it, if you continue to talk to me. xD I do it a lot.
Well, if you liked her in FMA:B, you'll adore her in the original FMA anime adaptation, as I said, she's more developed, and is the equivalent of how Greed was in FMA:B. She was definitely underdeveloped in FMA:B, unfortunately. :/ But yeah, the more anime you watch, you can just add favorite characters as you go, and replace Lust whenever you get a better character, or, keep her on the favorites list if you watch the original FMA. :P Actually.. If you just merely put Lust on there to fill up the favorite characters list, why not put Greed? He was fuckin' awesome in FMA:B.
Also, I think you've seen enough anime to have a few favorites, no? You've seen Steins;Gate, FMA:B and Clannad: After Story. If those aren't enough for you, to be favorited, I don't know what is... xD Those three are the top of the top in popularity and quality, when it comes to anime. All three of those are on my favorites list, if you didn't already know, haha. Steins;Gate was 10/10 for me. I wonder why you gave it merely an 8, but, to each their own.
Hmm, I noticed you like Lust from FMAB. You'd actually like her a lot more in the original FMA series, since she actually lives throughout the entire series, and becomes a good guy, sort of like Greed in FMAB. Also, why don't you edit in some favorite anime on the side bar thing?
