I wanted to say it was bad after watching it but it was okay. I gave the series itself a 9/8. This episode though, it's definitely a 6 at most. 100% filler.
It is kinda funny and has a lot of cuteness. It is just a filler special though and you don't really need to watch it.
If you do watch it however watch it before season 2 but after season 1. It won't make sense chronologically otherwise due to events that take place in season 2. I know this because with it being labeled as episode 13 I did not follow that advice that
...
I just gave and watched it after season 2, so I do know what I'm talking about in that regard.
Most of the episode has to do with Myuu's cuteness, or funny antics between Shia, Yue, Tio, and Kaori. Mostly centered on Yue. So it's kinda entertaining. Totally filler though. So don't expect much. If you love Arifureta and just want to see some more of it then go ahead, you're probably the target audience.

Adorableness overload. End of review. Seriously though if you need a wholesome pick me up this is definitely one to watch. Ryan Bartley really put in some work on this one as Latina's English dub VA. It's so adorable it hurts.
That being said... don't expect a lot of action or even really a great story or memorable characters. It pretty much gets by on pure adorable wholesome cuteness and not much else.
If you go into this expecting a guy's gonna be fighting against a demon lord to protect his daughter, well, you're gonna be very very disappointed. So don't.
Wholesome cuteness aside, the story and
...
characters are probably the weakest point of the show, both coming in at like 3/10's for me. But the enjoyment due to all the wholesome cuteness is a 9/10. There's definitely way better wholesome animes out there to be fair. Though coming from something like Redo of Healer this is a massive breath of fresh air and sorely needed.
I can explain. In terms of the story... Man finds and saves a cute little girl. End of story. The rest is just wholesome cute little adventures and overall cuteness overload. So you see, the story is incredibly weak. And as for the characters... while they're likeable they aren't really developed so in the end they're super forgettable and generic. And I don't just mean the extras. That's true even for the main cast.
So in the end just refer to my first paragraph. That's pretty much the beginning and the end of what you need to know. Don't expect a whole lot else. But if you want that, this'll do just that.

This show is seriously messed up. Rape in every single episode. Forcefully mind wiping and brainwashing people with magic to make them willing sex slaves and servants. Whole lots of murder in horrendous fashion as well - like having them eaten alive by other people after being raped. And all under the premise of revenge for the MC being horribly raped and tortured for months. Heck even leaving people crippled in a hole to be raped to death by large livestock - people not even related to said revenge. Like, the fuck?
That being said I guess if you just want a hardcore rape and brainwashing
...
harem hentai with lots of murder and a somewhat cohesive story then I guess you're in luck. From that perspective it's about a 6/10. Though for real most of the people in this story are so evil and fucked up they make comic level villains look tame.
Having read these previous paragraphs, if that doesn't sound appealing to you then frankly avoid this one like the plague. It was so messed up that I kinda had to power through it personally, though I elected to rate it fairly for what it is rather than giving it like a 3/10 based on my own sentiments.

Before we get to the review this is very important in my opinion: Start episode 1 at like 20:42 once she's back in the real world. After you finish episode 3 you can go back and watch it. The truth is it makes zero chronological sense where that part is because her VRMMO avatar didn't look like that, so it takes place after she's isekai'd. Just ignore the other scene from 2:18 to 2:30 in episode 1 that briefly cuts back to the real world. Episode 4 picks up directly after the events of episode 1. Whoever set it up to start like that is
...
really a dummy. It makes absolutely zero sense. So just do yourself a favor and follow my advice on that one, kay?
That being said it's a really wholesome anime. I can't say there's really all that much story, though things definitely do happen and it's definitely a cohesive story rather than episodic. Though it's not epic or anything by any means. It's very bingeable and super adorable.
The bottom line is that there are better adorable animes and better wholesome animes and better animes in general. But if you're looking for that sorta thing and want something to watch then I don't think this one will really let you down. It won't really blow you away or anything, but it'll be a nice little show to watch.
I'll say that the art isn't all that great, a 5/10 at most. Some just isn't very good. There's even a few scenes where it's just a still image with a bunch of talking in the background for like almost a solid minute before going back to stuff being animated. And some of the backgrounds and such look a little shoddy sometimes. Though it's not really distracting and they didn't use CG models. Though that being said the character design is really adorable.
The characters are generally quite likeable. Though it's definitely a really wholesome kinda world that they're in where most people are surprisingly good people, with some token bad guys here and there.
The MC's pretty much a Mary Sue good at everything with a near god mode cheat set of armor (the bear onesie) that gives her more power than you can shake a stick at. Like literally being able to effortlessly defeat over 10,000 monsters on her own in short order just randomly on a whim on her way somewhere.

I'm not sure why there are so many abysmal reviews here on MAL. I thought it was a wholesome enjoyable little series. Fun to watch and easily bingeable.
I do wish they'd made somewhat of a bigger deal about everyone being trapped in the isekai world, not being to log out, what's surely happened to their bodies in 30 years, and so on. Those facts are utterly glossed over and all but ignored. And I don't really like that.
That aside, it was an enjoyable watch. Though expect somewhat more of a wholesome entertaining experience like Bofuri rather than something hardcore and super serious like Overlord.
I can
...
understand why some people complain, as not a whole lot happens if you're looking for X and Y major plot points and resolutions and such. It's somewhat more of an adventure, and still very much still working on the primary task having not really made much progress as of yet. Sort of like you might expect in a 200 episode shōnen but of course this is only 12 episodes so they haven't gotten all that far into it. They've only really just begun unraveling some of the mysteries, and barely brushing the surface of some others.
The main character's absolutely adorable by the way. Maybe not quite Bofuri adorable, but still pretty darn cute.

So, how to best sum this series up? It effectively has no plot, but it isn't boring.
Honestly. It starts fairly strong but the action ends pretty quickly. Aside from getting isekai'd as the demon lord and absolutely dunking on a few enemies, most of the series is just running a hot spring resort and screwing around.
Well, I suppose to say that it has "no" plot wouldn't necessarily be right. It does have one, sort of. They just make incredibly poor use of the time they have in a 12 episode span. It's kind of like 8/12 episodes are collectively mostly spa resort filler. Things do
...
move along, a bit. But pretty slowly.
The few fights that do take place seem so relatively inconsequential that they didn't even matter. And not just because the MC is so OP - there's isekai anime that do that fairly well like Overlord, Reincarnated as a Slime, and Misfit of Demon King Academy. They were just inconsequential because they just randomly came up and randomly went away so quickly that they didn't even matter whatsoever to the plot.
Bottom line? It seems kind of almost like they were trying to do a sort of Overlord kind of theme, even summoning some of the Demon Lord's servants, and establishing themselves in the new world they find themselves in. But whereas Overlord did it in epic fashion with actually good storytelling, in this one... they pretty much just make a resort, manage said resort, and that's pretty much the extent of their plan. Just to make some money.
It's incredibly odd, honestly. The guy seems to avoid all the actual evil people that would actually follow the Demon Lord and instead associate nigh exclusively with the holy maidens who should want to eliminate the Demon Lord. Well, them and poor helpless girls we should feel sorry for. But of course in typical harem fashion every female this guy meets inexplicably instantly falls in love with him. Hot, loli, trap, insane, or otherwise.
About the largest actually logical plot point is the guy wants to try to find some items that could help against his major weakness in the new world. But that doesn't even take place in season 1 (and the chances of season 2 are close to zero given the show's reception). But why, I don't really know considering the guy's literally dunked on the strongest beings in the world like it's nothing.
I don't think the show really knew what it wanted to be in the end or what they really wanted to do with the plot and it suffered for that.
Though that said there's a lot of absolutely terrible isekai out there and this one's at least entertaining and watchable. A lot of them I can't even stand to finish. Kind of a low bar, I suppose. But this anime is only around a 6-7, and absolutely nothing more than that. So if you just go into it knowing that, well, it is what it is I suppose.

I think this anime made me angry more than anything. From the main character to the others. They're so infuriating. It's like the writer intentionally made them as stupid as humanly possible. And not just one or two. Nearly every single one of them. Half way through at around episode 12 they improve to not be complete morons. But episode 13 is some weird recap episode that completely breaks the fourth wall. 16 is even a token hot spring episode. And more stupid as hell characters are introduced later. Just illogical irredeemably stupid.
All things considered I wanted to hate the series. But even despite the
...
things that made me angry about it I couldn't.
It's pretty emotional though so if you're going through a hard time I'd give this one a pass until you're in a better state of mind.

The animation is so trash even 2 minutes in I want to drop it. If their budget was this low they shouldn't have even tried to make the anime. I've literally never seen an anime with such bad animation. You occasionally see anime with CGI horses or sometimes some monsters. But never 100% pure shit-tier CGI. Even the dub is terrible and I love dubs, it's worse than the 90's dubs of foreign live action TV shows. I can't believe this anime is rated so highly. Watching the 50 minute long first episode (1+2) was like actual torture. Skipping all the way to episode 39
...
the animation is just as bad. If you're wondering if it ever improves.... no, no it doesn't. Absolutely appalling.
About the only thing with actual 2D animation is the few childhood flashbacks from what I saw. I dropped the show after the 3rd episode as you might imagine. I've never seen such a terrible anime.

If you're worried about reading spoilers for this show then skip to 3 minutes 24 seconds in the first episode. Because they quite literally spoil the result of the entire show right from the get go for absolutely no reason whatsoever. As a result there's pretty much no gravity to anything because you already know exactly what's going to happen.
That aside, I'm not one of those ravenous foaming at the mouth isekai haters. There ARE good isekai. Sword Art Online, Overlord, Reincarnated as a Slime, My Next Life as a Villainess, etc. This is not one of them, unfortunately.
That being said this show isn't bad.
...
And believe me there are some bad BAD isekai out there. My absolutely honest rating for this show is a 5. It's genuinely watchable. You should be able to binge all 12 episodes without getting so bored or frustrated by 3 to 5 episodes in that you end up dropping the thing.
As a 5 that means it is absolutely average. If you have nothing else to watch it'll get the job done for a few hours of entertainment. But it's nothing remarkable. You're not going to fantasize about it, think about it, or likely even become a fan of it.
It's not bad. I have to say I genuinely disagree with all of these 1's and 2's getting thrown around. Though it's not good either.
After the first 3½ minutes which quite literally spoil the ending that brings us to the beginning of the story. It's not quite normal as far as isekai go. Typically someone dies and gets reincarnated or reborn into an isekai. This man, after preparing the rest of his meal, literally falls asleep waiting for his rice to get done and wakes up in an isekai. Not even reborn either. Literally like 6 years old sitting at a table with food in front of him. Now to be fair some isekai do start when the character is young, or an adult, rather than an infant - My Next Life as a Villainess for instance. But in that one the MC at least died to start things out then got her memories of her past life back after hitting her head. This one there was no death and no injury, no goddess, no actual event that explains why it happened whatsoever. And that is how we're starting out.
As that happens pretty much right away I wouldn't call it a spoiler by the way. The first 3½ minutes of the 1st episode is an absolute spoiler however and I'd advise you skip past it.
Now I'm not really sure why that's what they went with. Maybe they wanted to avoid some tropes like getting hit by a car or stabbed by a crazy person and be unique. But it just ends up making no sense. Either way I suppose at the end of the day it doesn't really matter all that much. How an isekai begins typically doesn't end up mattering all that much since the focus is almost exclusively on the isekai world itself. Though there are of course exceptions like Jobless Reincarnation in which it's particularly relevant.
Once we move on past that the story is pretty average. We end up with a pretty powerful main character who inexplicably ends up with their own personal harem and all kinds of success. There's small adventures here and there. But it's all pretty generic.
Truth be told I doubt the first 3½ minutes or even a complete synopsis of the entire season would really truly spoil the show all that much because hardly anything happens. It's all pretty generic and expected. There's nothing all that exciting. No riveting plot that keeps you on the edge of your seat. No super wild challenges to overcome. It's just an absolutely generic and average story with no bells or whistles. No cherry on top. Nothing special.
It is very watchable though. And that would be why it's a 5. There are some that are genuinely irredeemable trash that you wouldn't even be able to force yourself to get through and if you did you'd hate yourself for it. You won't find that here, frankly. But don't go in expecting anything special or memorable either. You'll be entertained enough for about 4 hours.
I would however suggest you put it towards the bottom of your list. If you're looking for a good isekai there are much better out there.

It wasn't great. 6/10 at most. I got it recommended from an OP MC list. That being the case, it wasn't what I expected - not quite the "OP MC" I was looking for. It was more of a Lelouch/Light Yagami type MC. Though the secondary lead possibly fell somewhat into the OP category. Sort of like Ezra Scarlet.
It's kind of a strange story, and just kind of throws the story into stuff. It's all fairly simple to understand concepts and themes though. It seems somewhat senseless how things go, though I suppose the same could be said about a lot of anime.
Most importantly
...
perhaps the series seems to only cover what should be about 1/5th or even 1/10th the total story. It's effectively the story of a strategist and his friends in a brutal hell-ish war. Or rather, the lead up to that and barely scratching the surface thereof. Though you do see a fair amount of it. But a second season seems unlikely to ever happen. Even an OVA is probably unlikely.
I couldn't really recommend it if I'm being honest. If you really like war stories and strategic warfare then you might enjoy it though. Just go into it knowing it will feel like barely the beginning of a series which you will never see the rest of and simply accept it for what it is as it is. Chances are you'll have to read the light novels if you ever want to know what happens next.
The score isn't great. In the beginning the music even seems too loud to hear the dialogue at times. I also had to turn up my volume a lot more for this series to properly hear dialogue. So the sound gets a 3.
The character design is okay. Though if we're talking about the characters themselves... most are fairly generic. There isn't really a great emotional connection made to them either. Ikta and Yatori are probably the only ones you'll care much at all about. The rest could frankly die and it'd not produce much more of an "eh" from you. Torway and Haroma are forgettable hollow shells. Matthew is just a punching bag to be the butt end of jokes. All 3 could die and it'd barely matter. Yatori reminds me a lot of Ezra Scarlet from Fairy Tail. Ikta I already mentioned reminds me of Lelouch or Light Yagami... though a fair bit less egotistical, and a lot more lazy.
The story is just okay. About your average run of the mill anime. Nothing impressive, but you can binge it without losing interest and getting bored. There's far better anime out there though.
