Watching anime has been a pretty big hobby of mine since 2019, though I only just started reading manga/light novels in 2023. I enjoy a wide variety of genres from slice of life to action shonen, but my favorites tend to be the darker series that feature a lot of emotional weight or deal with dark themes a bunch.

My rating scale:

10: Among the best anime that I've seen. I give this out pretty sparingly. It has to be an anime that was not only thoroughly enjoyable the whole way through, but also left some lasting impression with me and has good rewatchability (it's just as good or better on successive watches).
9: Anime that I think are great, but aren't quite 'masterpieces.' There might be one thing or a couple things that I didn't like, or maybe it just wasn't as good as a clearly comparable anime that I put as a 10.
8: Very enjoyable and better than an average 'good' anime. I would rewatch an anime I rated 8 and recommend it to other people pretty readily, but it probably isn't one of my favorites.
7: Good, but not great. I enjoyed watching it, but it didn't exactly stand out to me as something unusually good or special.
6: The lowest of the 'good' ratings and the higher of two 'mid' ratings. It was fine, and I didn't dislike it, but it wasn't good enough that I would want to watch it again or recommend it to someone.
5: The highest of the 'bad' ratings and the lower of two 'mid' ratings. It wasn't the worst and I don't necessarily regret watching it, but I would have rather just watched something else, and I would not call it good.
4: This is where the regret comes in. Why did I watch this? Would not recommend to anyone.
3: An anime I give a 3 caused me physical pain to watch, and the only reason I finished it was so I could give it a poor rating on MAL. The things I go through for an arbitrary stats website that no one looks at but me and like 2 other people.
2: I wanted to die while watching this, and not because of preexisting mental health issues.
1: I haven't given anything a 1 yet, this is reserved for the worst of the worst, something that I hated watching more than any other anime.

Note that this is my own personal interpretation of the rating scale, and all my ratings are my own personal opinions. I also will change my ratings upon retrospection and when rewatching shows or watching other seasons, so none of these are set in stone. Most of the time I watch a show because it looks entertaining and my intuition on this is usually good, so my ratings tend to be mostly 6-9 because of this.
