I read Sayonara Eri and I loved it! I bought the physical volume as I said I was gonna, and it really is something to be able to flip through the pages. The characters are lovable, reality and fiction blur in a way I really appreciate, and the emotions at this manga's core feel even more real as a result. Thank you so much for bringing this lovely one shot to my attention!
Next up, I finished Ultra Maniac, and while I appreciate a recommendation out of left field like this, It wasn't quite my thing. In a lot of ways it felt pretty cliché when it comes to Shoujo. And I'm sure that poor manga just fell victim to time and having lots of stories building on things manga like Ultra Maniac established. In a sense, despite the clichés, it brought some freshness to the genre as well. I LOVED that we had an honest-to-god Majokko in the story and that the girls were the best friends. Rio was adorable no matter what he did, and just on a moment-to-moment basis, maybe not paying full attention to what's onscreen the entire time, I definitely came away from it feeling good. The story suffers a bit in parts, because it either felt like crucial developments were left out, or were shortened to the point of not really making much sense, other than in the compulsion to give every character their happy end? But the ending I quite liked. So thank you once again for bringing this obscure Shoujo to my attention!
Then, the final one for this batch: I finished Dorohedoro the other day and also came away from it quite positive. In contrast to the other two, I knew about this one since it came out, and in a way, it has been on the back of my mind. Now that I finally got around to finishing it, it held a bunch of surprises and I can't wait to go pick up the manga. The characters are lovable, be they antagonistic or not (Ebisu is the most hilarious little idiot and I loved her every onscreen moment), but I also enjoyed the core friendship between Caiman and Nikaidou, the comradery between the sorcerers and the silly gory world they were all hanging out in. In fact it left me wanting to learn and see more. Well done on making me not put it off even longer!
Thank you so much for your creative little visual novel type of recommendation. Was it because you know I love reading? Hehe.
In any case, I am very sorry for not having gotten around the majority of your recommendations just yet, but I have the strong sense they're all solid, and I am excited about each of them! In fact, I'll probably even buy Sayonara Eri and get started with that on the manga front.
In any case, I WILL get back to you once I have watched more of them. The first one I'll finish is probably gonna be Hyouka, which really was a great pick cause I've been itching to get back to it for a while xD
In any case, thank you so much for your wonderful gift! You made me a happy little elf~
Wish you the best year ❤️
