Welp.

Its more thoughtful than the recent reviews I've been bombarded with, which I am pleased beyond doubt for.

Overall it's very nice. I like how you saw the ghost in the shell franchise as less of a mecha/harem/fantasy/sf/etc cliche cluster and more as a medium of a tale. I've never seen it personally though, so I can't credit more than I probably should. I definitely hope to watch it in the near future after reading that.

In a word, great job! Wait thats two words.

Hey, my pleasure. Thank you for your passionate review.

Talking on the topic of the 'new world', breaking down the 'utopian' world in the retrospective future, we see a genuine world of hate and fear. The painful part is that it's still better than our world. At least they're not killing each other over a piece of land...or they are. In which case, progress is a strong word for our future Japan.

My question to anyone who finished shinsekai yori is plain and simple, and a question I still haven't gotten a clear answer on.

"What would you have done?"

And if you answer it...at least good enough to convince me that it is a genuine answer, you ought to be running as a presidential candidate and save our world from hell. But hey, 'you can change the world' is just something we tell our children and grandchildren because we don't believe it.

I thought shinsekai yori was another 'rick roll video' considering that my first experience with it was an image in facebook showing the infamous scene in episode 7. It took me a long time before finally realizing that this was more than boku no pico and actually diving into the greatest anime experience I've ever had.

I did say it was the greatest experience, but I certainly didn't feel that way at first. I simply thought that it had a seamless story with a happy ending. It was not until later when I actually thought about what the story was all about that I fell in love with this anime.

There are three problems in this world: karma demons, fiends and queerats. Karma demons are the manifestation of the fault of the cantus, fiends are the manifestation of humanity's bottomless desire for destruction, and queerats are the manifestation of the toppling society that Saki and her friends think to be perfect, at first anyway.

At the end of the anime, Satoru and Saki live on and get married, expecting their child anytime soon. They are set to changing the future, as they breed the tainted cats once more to control the returning of the three problems mentioned above. In actuality nothing changed. Shun turned into a karma demon and killed his family, before he decided to kill himself. A pseudo-fiend killed half the population in Kamisu-66, and queerats caused more destruction in the village than any other creatures have done, which is bitter to say, the most humane part of their existence. They rouse destruction. Satoru didn't need to check their genes. Only one organism will kill for something as meaningless and vague as 'justice' or 'greater good'.

On the subject of justice, here's another anime that I found fascinating. You might know its original work, getting a movie adaptation on 2017 in addition to its previous 2 tv series and another movie.

The prequel to fate stay night, however, is unlike its original. Sure, seven masters summon seven servants still, and I won't go into any further detail because I want you to see fsn too someday, but while fsn focuses on the romance of cavalry and heroism, its prequel, fate zero, destroys any romance cavalry and heroism might have.

Fate zero, written by the creator of madoka, is perhaps another great depiction of real through the scope of the surreal. It is very gory, so I advise a steel heart, no, a fullmetal heart, but since you got through shinsekai yori, you won't have a hard time.

Tell me again how you felt about this!

Thanks for your comment!

Yes, if there's one thing I learned through my continual experience of the world of anime, it's that happy endings aren't always necessary. It's certainly preferred in a world without happy endings, but the greatest of the bests of any form of art is depiction of reality through the scope of the surreal. I'd say the wire is epitome of this in tv series and the watchmen is in western graphic novels.

Madoka surely does not live up to the giants mentioned, yes, but it certainly gives it a game. And anyone who feels enjoyed, or otherwise enlightened from the experience of any of the three are...well, not someone I'd spend an evening with. Over the years, I've realized the futility of the enjoyment spectrum of anime experience. It's pointless or otherwise biased. It is certainly an important aspect, but some may find the greatest of the stories not enjoyable, but certainly praiseworthy.

Satisfaction through dissatisfaction was what I grasped in rebellion. Nothing ended, nothing was solved, and that was in and of itself perfect. Granted, the producers didn't intend on it as they stated later, and they certainly aren't going to stop here, but art is not defined by its creators but its viewers.

I see you've fallen into this realm not too long ago. Consider yourself lucky...the greatest pain of the aged otakus is losing the first experience. And for one, I'll give you an anime with an unparalleled experience. From your reaction to rebellion, I can assume that you're certainly going to love this one.

The title is shinsekai yori or from the new world. It is a heavily-story-based anime, which means lots of dialogues, but once you get through the info dumps in the 3rd episode, you'll find it quite interesting. Just to be safe, there's a bit of bl in the 7th episode, as well as gl, but that is absolutely incorporated in the story and not a misplaced selling point. It's just a kiss, so I think it'll be manageable.

Tell me how you feel about it when you're done!

Thank you for saying that. It makes me very happy when people notice and enjoy that about my reviews, because it is a big part of what I try to accomplish when I review something. I believe in the value of analysis, but I also believe that analysis should lead us to an understanding of what makes a work successful or unsuccessful on a creative and emotional level as well as on an intellectual level. There's more to criticism than facts, logic, objectivity, and so on--works are full of unique personality and varying degrees of emotional texture that simply cannot be captured by "the story is good because of [x] reason." So I try to display what I perceive to be the heart and soul of a work--what really makes it tick or fail to tick--while also tackling it in a traditional "critical" fashion. I see this as the only way that I personally am capable of being fair and doing justice to whatever it is I'm reviewing.

As a nice little side effect, it makes my reviews more fun to write and hopefully more fun for others to read :) I know that I am bored by disjointed walls of text with dry phrasing, and others may feel the same way, so I try to avoid that and use language that I can be proud of while still staying true to what a review is supposed to be.

Anyways, sorry for my rambling. Glad you enjoyed something that I wrote, thanks for your comment and for the friend request!
