Prefer things darker than the average shonen which in my eyes should be darker than the average anime. I also like lolis and moe but only to an extent. Fanservice and fightservice is only acceptable to an extent, there's porn for sexy and video games for violent. Sometimes I will be straightup entertained by something silly though.

I dislike when a show really stalls itself like most shonens (I will skip fillers and FONS and Slam Dunk would probably be the caps of my tolerance level for SLOWNESS) -- I can accept OP, unexplained powers in main protagonists to a certain extent though.

Major turn-offs would be an MC who's too overpowered to the point of being smug; a generic shonen with the a rivalry best friend and an underdog story is far preferable to someone who seems like the reincarnation of a lord and savior of the world.

Madoka Kaname would probably be my limits as to how Mary Sue (or "pleasant") a character can get (Seriously, Sanae, Nagisa, Ushio, and Ryou from Clannad top that in a show that doesn't have a dynamic plot as well) and even then she was carried by other characters. The male equivalent of too good would be Ichika from Infinite Stratos, Shirou from the Fate/Stay Night DEEN anime was pretty bad too. Reinhard von Lohengramm is arguably too good (although I would say Kircheis is more Gary Stu), but doesn't even come close to the worst of them and he has other supporting characters.

In my childhood I watched Beyblade, some Dragonball Z, and some Digimon, (lots of Murican cartoons yeah Xiaolin Showdown doesn't count as animu) then Naruto in 2006-2007 (which I dropped for one reason or another, don't read manga either) and then Haruhi in 8th grade.

I got back into Digimon in 2009 and started watching more anime from that. No favorite genres in particular, but typically not that much into romance and comedy and will usually avoid big 100 plus ep shonens. Not going to put down some animes I've watched in childhood because I'm not sure how many episodes that would be and I don't even really remember them :P

I wish I could give .5s, that would make rating easier. I generally round up my ratings. I could spread out the scores more but I feel that wouldn't be giving shows what they deserve. I usually relate to one of my favorite characters or share some of their aspects/values, but I also think that there's no character that just feels like "me". If a show is going to be 5 or under it's generally going to be unwatchable and I won't bother rating, I probably won't even watch anything below a 7 nowadays anyways... A lot of shows just clump together in 6s and 7s imo -- 5/12/2014 started judging harsher after LoGH and getting tired of anime in a sense. There are a number of dropped shows not on the list.

A lot of the shows 8 and above would just cluster in an "8ish" if not for personal preference, perhaps. I'll usually give a "generosity point" for good animation or design too. I don't read much manga, light novels or visual novels though, although I did read all of the Haruhi light novels and like the Mahou Shoujo Ikusei Keikaku/MGRP novels.
