This one seems to be quite divisive this season, and I can see why. FruBa really joins the auspicious ranks of Seven Deadly Sins and Psycho Pass as very enjoyable anime that utterly collapse in later seasons. This one is rife with character assassination and go-nowhere (and then GO STRAIGHT TO THE FINISH) pacing and uneven character development that just makes you regret spending the time. Man, what a ride. A cowboypunk sci-fi comedy that evolves to being a more straight up western with almost shakespearean tragedy and personal drama.
Vash, Wolfwood, Legato, Millie... such good characters. I looked forward to every episode, from the early ones where you knew there was something more beneath the surface of the goofball in the red coat to the end where you just were awash in the trauma. A somewhat disjointed classic with an irresistibly charismatic lead. Loved this series, though it did start to drag on as it Gainaxed its way into oblivion at the end. Sad I'll never see it finished, nor the excellent anime continued.
Story: 7 due to it being disjointed and taking on fever-dream levels of madness toward the tail end. Time jumps, enemies become friends, the surreal backstory that is revealed in the later parts... there are other stories that do this worse, but this was WEIRD. Art: 10 I loved it.
