I gravitate towards stories that create believable, consistant and relatable characters. Stories that investigate and expand on the human experience. Whether that's a broken future, where all the characters are deeply flawed, yet still doing the best they can (NGE), or a wholesome story of friends being friends that care about each other (K-On).
I have always loved animation and how it can achieve things that other forms of visual media cannot. I grew up watching all manner of western cartoons, from classic Loony Tunes to Transformers, Futurama to Disney. Now I watch far less Western animation, having grown tired of the repetitive nature of the story telling. Anime has its clichés and stereotypes, but anime also has far more original story telling, and adventurous animation.
