Pokemon is a series that I grew up with as a kid. I remember when the games were popular and the massive fandom it had during elementary school. And I still have a fondness for the series as a whole. But for the most part, I've outgrown the anime, and find it to be quite meh. I still like the games, and I also have read a good amount of the manga, but I am quite behind on it.
Anyways, when I found out that they were making an anime that was based on Red and Blue, I was excited. After watching it, I feel
...
disappointment.
My biggest problem with it, is the length of it. 4 episodes is not enough to translate the game into an anime. It felt like we were rushing through the story, with us missing most of the gym matches and the majority of what it really feels like to be a trainer. It really feels like it should have had at least 13 episodes if not 26.
We got very little character development from both Red and Blue(or Green for those who watched the subbed). They're rivals, and that's pretty much it. Same thing pretty much applies to all of the characters. Like we hardly even get a reason why Giovinna decided to have a change of heart at the end. The only character we get at least something from is Mr Fuji, who we find out knows about Mewtwo and knows about the Mega stones. That`s it.
This could have been something for us that grew up with Pokemon, but it really did miss the mark. It could have told a slightly more mature story with more character development, but it didn't.
Only reason why it's getting a 7 from me, is cause nostalgia is preventing me from scoring it lower. Oh and the art and sound being a hell a lot better than the normal Pokemon anime.
