where to even begin with my levels of brutal disappointment? ive been a huge fan of the original manga for years, and struggled to understand how or why the series never got picked up for an anime adaptation. now i understand: plus-sized elf is simply unadaptable. at least, in regards to the faithfulness and dedication to the art that something as visually as appealing as it is deserves. "oh we'll adapt it. but do you mind if it looks like complete shit? oh, you do? well this is about to be super embarrassing for all of us then"
it makes sense as to why this show
...
was picked up and animated by elias, a studio with 4 shows under its belt to this day, one of which is airing this season, and the other two of which are plus-sized elf. it also makes sense why this looks as shitty as it does when one examines their other works. this studio seems to make its thin slices of bread and butter strictly on the backs of low budget ecchi anime based off of high quality but difficult to adapt ecchi manga, and i for one think this injustice needs to end. this is my first and final straw. they have too much plus-sized blood on their hands
the animation. is abhorrent. as many have already said, the intro and outro are both laughably bad, with heads and bodies hardly even matching one another, and it looking rather amateurish at best. and thats not even mentioning the quality of the music which somehow rivals the awful quality of the visuals. its not much better within the show itself either. it seems the studio couldnt be bothered to take basic anatomy lessons, because the biggest appeal of the series (which is obviously the ass and titties) look like crap. why do the breasts of all of these girls look like mounds of sand on a beach? where is the gravity? where is the weight? oh and speaking of weight
im aware its called "plus-sized elf" right. but its "plus-sized elf". not "morbidly obese elf". they bumped my girl up 10 sizes like the grinchs fucking heart, PLUS the rest of the ladies as well. its not appealing anymore! its a fine line, but the demographics dont always cross over. thick does not equal fat, and these chicks are h u s k y. no shade to fat chicks! all love. but thats not what i signed up for, big dog! there must have been some sort of miscommunication here. i dont want these
trash animation, ugly designs, terrible music, awful writing, all around a complete butchering of my guy synecdoches work. even his jokes fall flat because even that was apparently too much for the crew here to handle. its just a mess. "but blue, whyd you watch all 12 episodes plus the 2 episode special then?" because i hate myself ok. and also because ive wanted an anime adaptation of this for years. and also because i like Ass
dont watch this show though yall im so serious. i know half the country is borderline illiterate now but for the love of all that is plus-sized please pick up the book. its so worth it. sexy, hilarious, gorgeous to look at. idve preferred a prison school treatment over this mess. what a nightmare. weve reached the point where what is essentially a motion comic wouldve been better than a fully animated 12 episode series. also the thick dragon girl only appeared like twice through the whole show. how did we get here? are we here only to suffer ?

hot take incoming, but this was a significant downgrade from the first season.
itll probably sound contrarian at best or imbecilic at worst, but i mean it when i say that i drastically prefer season one over arise from the shadow. certainly the budget has maintained its gross size, and certainly the action scenes have all been improved in both number and quality, however, i simply dont get the fun in watching someone who is so much stronger than literally everyone around him dogwalk every person he comes across. its like the author read one punch man and got the exact wrong lesson from it. the
...
reason that show rules is because saitama hardly fights, so it feels special when he finally makes an appearance. here, jinwoo is basically the only character present at any given moment. and the ridiculous strength he has over, quite literally every other character who has appeared so far, makes the show boring, and predictable, and without any stakes whatsoever.
i understand why its so popular. its eye candy, and like candy, its also easy to digest, and mostly inoffensive. but its also flavorless, and almost entirely devoid of any major substance. again, the show is insanely formulaic; some nobody hunters enter a dungeon or encounter an enemy that they have no chance against, all hope seems lost, then jinwoo swoops in and basically one-shots the seemingly unbeatable bad guy in the flashiest way imaginable without even a scratch. they try to "spice it up" by having jinwoo like, try, sometimes, i guess, but there is not any singular moment throughout this entire season when i thought he was in any danger of getting seriously injured, let alone losing. that, to me, is an issue.
so its palatable, its gorgeous, its full of "aura" as the youths are saying, and its also pretty much entirely devoid of any sexual content, which the youths are also dangerously averse to some reason. it makes perfect sense why its blown up so severely these last few months. and, granted, that final fight in the second to last episode was absolutely killer. i enjoy the show! i dont want it to seem like i dont. but i am a bit frustrated when something like this, which is basically so unchallenging and extremely generic, becomes so outrageously popular, completely disproportionate to what something like it really deserves, especially when so many other, much better series, are either lambasted or flat out ignored in its favor. ive been in the scene for my entire life so, i apologize if it seems like its coming off as me hating or something. im really not! theres just so much better than this out there. jinwoo earned his stripes in the first season, but back then this show ruled because he tried so hard. he struggled, he fought. he busted his ass in every single episode, and hardly even scraped by half the time. now its just..dull. im honestly feeling like jiinwoo himself now, watching this. its no fun when theres no challenge. so why even bother?
ill probably tune in for season 3 because, again, its not bad, and i do like it. but at this point im not expecting anything besides some pretty colors. i feel like thats more of a safe place to lay my expectations for this series going forward.

really wish i loved this one like everybody else does, but yes, it is good!
a lesser flcl or general gainax production carried immensely by the talented artists over at science saru and the general vibes. im beyond shocked i dont love this; perhaps its my age, because i feel like had i watched it growing up itd be my favorite thing of all time. now, however, i simply find it fine -- perhaps even good! but not great, i fear.
i wish i was articulate enough to specifically identify why this isnt hitting for me like it is for everybody else. it could be as simple
...
as me having seen countless shows that does what this does much better. it could also just be the fact that i dont really find it...funny, at all. its not as bad as something along the lines of jjk or anything. that show was positively BRUTAL with how strikingly unfunny it was. this, however, just doesnt land in that way. indeed, i feel that dandadan is at its strongest, not with its endless store brand imaishi gags, nor even its breathtaking action sequences, but rather, during the more shoujo esque moments, when we witness okarun and momo slowly but steadily falling for one another.
beyond the acrobatic silky episodes (unequivocally the best in the season), my personal favorite is probably episode 8, immediately following silkys inevitable defeat. okarun and momo briefly return to normal high school life, and the entire episode is dedicated to them clumsily searching for one another through the halls, and their increasing paranoia and anxiety that one of them is avoiding the other. i found it to be very enjoyable, very tender, super funny, super cute, and insanely annoying, because moments like that never really happen! and are more often than not sidelined in favor of more bad gags and forgettable villains.
thankfully though, the show is good. not s good as id hoped, not as good as everyones saying, but good. and i hear it gets better! so i will be sat for season 2 once it drops next year. but fingers crossed that we get more of those quieter, more intimate moments between our two leads, because i love them very much, and obviously, without them, this show would probably be unwatchable

Despite never really doing this often, i felt compelled to write this review because i find Akame ga Kill to be a very important anime.
this show follows by what i'd like to call The Game of Thrones principal, and this idea goes beyond simply "all of your favorites are probably going to die". while this is the case as well, it is moreso about how this anime really makes it a point to blur the line between good and evil. within this world, there are no such concepts, as everyone COULD be considered "evil" by the real world's standards, but within the context of the
...
show, it is extremely subjective, other than the obvious antagonists of course. what's more, the people that could somewhat be considered "the good guys" out of the bunch, i.e. Daenerys Targaryen or Jon Snow, are far more likely to die than other people, likely just so that the creators can get some sort of audience reaction. anyway, let's break it down.
Story: 6.
it was a simple plot, relatively speaking. government is bad, so we wanna stop it.
Art: 9.
it was very well animated throughout, specifically during certain fight sequences.
Sound: 10.
easily my favorite part of this show. the music was always brilliant.
Character: 8.
it has a wide selection of characters, each with specific personalities, so you will be sure to find someone to get attached to. (but, as someone who has finished this show in its entirety, i wouldn't recommend attachment. i wont get specific, but love at your own risk)
Enjoyment: 7.
endings are very important to me. they can make or break an otherwise spectacular movie, anime, cartoon, book, etc. this ending was ehhhh. could've been much better. but it wasn't...terrible?
Overall: 7.
i enjoyed akame ga kill. i enjoyed it enough to finish it in a few days. i think that the blend of action and comedy works relatively well.
the biggest issue with this show
(other than the dub. i love dubs, but please. PLEASE avoid this dub. oh man its bad)
is probably how dark it gets, just for the sake of being dark. again, no spoilers, but deaths began to happen so regularly that i became numbed to it. i felt nothing during these heart wrenching scenes of final goodbyes because twenty minutes ago i just said goodbye to someone else. sure, they first two were rough. very rough. but that's because they were UNEXPECTED. but soon it becomes relatively clear who's going to go next, or that even SOMEONE IN GENERAL is about to die. it makes deaths a lot less impactful when you experience them over and over. in some ways, i've become like one of the assassins. yeah, death sucks, but this is like, the 80th time i've seen someone get decapitated, so it's not a huge deal.
all in all, this show is good if you
A. like dark anime
B. like a little comedy and splashes of light fanservice here and there and
C. can handle gore.
earlier i said this show is important. and i still feel that way. it's not often you get to see both sides of the coin; bloodthirsty villains you want to lose, but also sympathize with because they have a loving wife and child. you don't get that enough. and i appreciated it. but somewhere along the line, i think the writers got too caught up in shock value and forgot about what made the show great.
tatsumi really should've just turned night raid into his own personal harem tbh

I can't help but think of Deser Punk after watching this entire series. This is a show that is advertised as some sort of light hearted action anime with a cast that is promising not only laughs, but boobs. With that being said, i can't tell you how disturbed i am right now. So, there are only 5 episodes, so you already understand that you are gonna get a lotta info within each and every minute. But the problem is, you don't really KNOW ANYTHING until the last episode. You are left in the dark while Aya and her opponent of the episode slap eachothers
...
clothes off for twenty minutes. Which i wasn't really complaining about. Then the final episode comes around, and the series makes an absolute 180 from action/ borderline hentai anime to some sort of Higurashi no Naku Koro Ni meets Die Hard. So, in summation, if you went to the Funimation pannel at Anime Expo this year (like i did) and saw their ad for this show, DONT BUY IT. By the last episode, you'll be wondering if you just watched an M. Night Shymalan porno debut before you even stop to think that they just decided to add a little "gurro twist" to the mix. Well, maybe not that brutal. But it's still pretty brutal.
Story: Gotta admit, nice twist. So: 8/10.
Art: Lacking throughout the entire series. Unproportionate breasts, awkward eye shapes, the works. 6/10.
Sound: Alright soundtrack, but they should've used it more. 7/10.
Characters: No CHARACTER DEVELOPMENT but a nice array of females. 7/10.
Enjoyment: Pre-final episode: 8/10. Post-final episode: 6/10.
Overall: 7/10.
This is definately for people that not only like Ikki Tousen, but maybe Yu Yu Hakusho and RIN as well.

So i just finished the first arc of Amagami, the Haruka arc. Lets start with the first episode. It gives you a vague and rather rushed introduction of the volley of girls that you have awaiting you while you progress through the show, but as of now, our "hero" Junichi is completely head over heels with this seemingly perfect specimine of a highschool girl. So, in this arc, that's who he's chasing. This episode leaves a sort of sour taste in your mouth, since it ends on an extremely negative note. Now, there are only 4 episodes to get you started on before they go
...
on to the next girl, and i must say that these guys quite skillfully puta lot of heart and nterest into making sure the viewer has strong feelings for Haruka, but whether these feelings are positive or negative is soley up to the viewer himself. As you watch this arc, you definately know how you'd feel if Junuchi actually stuck with this girl. After watching all 4 episodes dedicated to Haruka, i have made my conclusion on her, and the intro to the series in general;
Storyline (Haruka arc), 8/10: Brief, but informative. By the end, you'll feel like you know them.
Art [8/10]: In my opinion, this art is pretty professionally done. The color are sheek, and the shading makes the characters come to life.
Sound [7/10]: By sound, i am picturing the music. The intro is slow, and the
ending follows suit. I would constantly find myself skipping through the intro to get straight to the show itself, because i would be afraid that i'd be too busy crying to watch the storyline unfold. The ending starts off kind of slow, but it picks up later to a catchy tune that can easily be sung along to (if you speak japanese, that is).
Characters [9/10]: A wide variety of colorful characters is really what makes a good series for me, and this show definately delivers in that category.
Overall, i give this show a 7/10. First episode, 7/10. Second and third episodes picks up with light hearted comedy and cute lovey-dovey antics, so 8/10. Fourth episode is so sweet it practically gave me diabetes. I wanted it to cutaway and find out that it was just a silly wet dream Junichi had, but i come to find that they are ACTUALLY SERIOUSLLY DOING THIS. I wanted to slap a 6/10 on them, but the 2nd and 3rd episodes barely made me cough them up a 7/10. So, in conclusion, I wil continue watching this show in the hopes that it will never sugar coat relationships ever again, and just stick to the moderately harsh/hilarious reality like in the middle of this arc. I'd reccomend this show mostly for girls, but also for guys that like some sugar in their coffee every once on a while.

I really think that this is an okay show. There really isn't that much of a plot, but the art and sound are very praise worthy. Unfortunately, what worked for Baccano! doesn't really work for this show. By that, i mean that the ending in Baccano blatatly states that there is no ending, thus leaving large chunks of the plot unresolved. This show takes the same route, except they do it in an exremely sloppy manner. Maybe the only reason that i liked it so much is because im a dude that gets some enjoyment out of 12 episodes of pointless nudity and 30 pounds
...
of fanservice, but maybe not. This show could've honestly been a lot worse. I believe that i didn't only come back for more simply because of the fanservice, but maybe because i just wanted to see who would get the guy in the end. (Though we all pretty much figured that out before the first episode ended). Simply put: if you couldn't get enough of the loli-service anime of the same creator Kanokon, then this is definately the show for you. On the other hand, if you covered your eyes in the OVAs of Kanokon when the middle schoolers were getting it on, then i'd definately reccomend browsing extremely far away from this section. Think of this show like this; it's like Bleach. If Bleach had no plot, but good artwork. Oh, and mainly focused on Orihime and Rangiku accidentally removing their clothes while they claw their way back to standing up, all the while accidentally stimulating the other by touching them in awkward places.

I'm pretty new here at myanimelist, but i am no noob to anime. This show right here is a MUST WATCH. It's not your sterotypical action anime that has a small group of people defeating the entire baddy army without breaking a sweat, no, this is more like later on in Naruto Shippuuden when stuff ACTUALLY STARTS TO HAPPEN. Guess what? People ACUTALLY die in this show! IMPORTANT PEOPLE! Not side people like Chiaotsu from DBZ......wait, did he even die? I dunno, but in this show, it is important that you pay attention to EVERYTHING. This is one of those shows that you can
...
watch over and over again and can even watch to the point where you know every word of the series, and yet you still want to rewatch just in case you missed something. I swear, this show keeps you guessing. I more reccommend this show for guys, but i guess some girls might like it too, since apparently some girls watch hentai......weird......anyway, yeah. But i don't reccommend the engish dub. Seriously, it sucks. But besides that, this is a masterpiece. I have like all of the merchandise and DVDs, figurines, i guess all thgat's left for me is the manga.
