Anime that I tag as "Highly Recommended" may not always be a 10/10 to me, but has a unique flair or something poignant about its story that has stuck with me.

5 is an average anime and anything below a 5 I most likely will not recommend to anyone.

I have come to realize that just because an anime has deeper themes or fewer clichés, it does not mean it is automatically good. A brainless anime with the usual tropes but has heart behind its production and solid characters/story can receive a high score. Also I think I'm reaching a point in my life where I am no longer patient enough to sit through a bad show in order to review it so
