Both revolve around how the prominence of new technology can change the course of the world for good or for bad. The issue of memory loss as a result of this technology also occurs in both of these animes. Steins;Gate is more sci-fi/time travel though.

Higashi no Eden

Despite Death Note being much more sinister the concept of the Death Note itself serves a purpose very similar to Juiz and the Selecao cell phones in Higashi No Eden. Essentially both Light and the Selecaos are given power to give commands thanks to these objects and although Light starts out using the Death Note to be righteous and god-like in his murderous decisions he becomes insane. In Higashi No Eden however there are more than one Selecao and they all use their cell phones in different ways despite the purpose of being given them is to become a "savior" of Japan and use them to benefit the nation.

Kuroko no Basket

Kagami Taiga and Kurosaki Ichigo share the same qualities both in personality and (slightly) appearance. Both are determined to fight for their cause and both are helped by their seemingly invisible sidekicks - Taiga is helped by Tetsuya Kuroko's lack of presence and Ichigo is helped by Rukia a shinigami who is rarely seen by humans. Although Bleach is supernatural and KNB is sports there's a fighting/shounen aspect in both of these animes. To me I believe anyone who is a fan of Tite Kubo's drawing style may notice a similar style with Tadatoshi Fujimaki. *Spoilers ahead* The Generation of Miracles is quite similar to the Arrancar Army although led by Sosuke Aizen the army is more antagonistic than Akashi Seijuro's GoM.

Free!

Both have all male main characters except for the fact that both Seirin and Iwatobi's teams are coached by a female student. The only differences are in terms of genre - that whereas Free! is more "Slice of Life" combined with sports, Kuroko no Basket is more "Shounen" combined with sports.

Both main male characters (Natsu and Rin) have fire based magical powers, have estranged fathers and are slightly naive compared to the next biggest main male character (Gray and Yukio who are both more intelligent but do have humorous moments). Both animes have a blonde haired girl with big breasts as a sidekick (Lucy and Shiemi) as well as girls who are quite stubborn and decisive (Erza and Izumo). Also Natsu and Rin both have flying cat companions - Blackie and Happy. To summarise: Both animes are based on fighting with magic to overthrow dark magic and have very similar stock characters. So if you enjoyed one of them it's well worth watching the other. However Fairy Tail is a bigger series and has many fillers that you can skip whereas Ao No Exorcist is all a new anime-only story as it is doesn't follow the manga.

Another

They're similar in the sense that people are dying in the local area and the cause is unknown to the locals which creates some kind of word of mouth legend. With Another, it's set in a school and you don't know the killer. With Death Note, the anime is from the killer's, Kira's, perspective. The only difference I would say is that Death Note has more aspects of detective work than horror.
