I personally enjoyed both these animes, they are both about boy loves/relationships and although This boy caught a Merman is deeper than Koisuru Shirokuma (a short anime that will take 6 - 7 mins to watch), they are both enjoyable and fun to see the main character's relationships grow & develop.

Both shows are based around real life issues and young adults trying to maneuver they way through their real world. They both feel like one of those animes where you watch them and you find yourself reflecting on yourself as some of the struggles the protagonists go through are very relatable situations that people struggle with everyday. Such as the struggle of healthy love lives and balance of work lives etc... I personally enjoyed both animes while watching them and think both styles are very different but cute. I am 100% sure that if you enjoyed one anime then you will most likely enjoy the other.

I personally started watching Kotaro on Netflix and I immediately thought of Umaru-chan, a series I love very much! It is similar in the way it mixes light hearted humour with the main character being a small/chibi cute character but different as Kotaro seems to be more deep with emotions, also had me tearing up and crying at some parts. Anyways I've only just started Kotaro and I can already tell it will be one of my favourites so I suggest either anime, if you like one you'll probably like the other.

Kiki's delivery service and the animal crossing movie both have a girl moving to a new city/town to follow her dreams or discover herself. I like both movies because they are similar to a slice of life yet with fantasy and adventure flairs. In addition, both animes have talking cats so if you like talking cats then you'll defo like both animes xDD

Both great movies with amazing animation and landscapes! With great characters, I really enjoyed both, especially Your name. "Your name." the movie is a bit more adventure and fantasy-based rather than a slice of life whereas the garden of words was more like a slice of life romance, both very enjoyable. Both romances were great stories in my opinion.

Yuri!!! on Ice
add

I think that Yuri on ICE and Koisuru Boukun is very similar as they are both in the yaoi genre and both have a growing romance between the two leading males in both animes. Both animes brought me to tears! ( but im just an emotional guy :P) and even though Koisuru Boukun is a much shorter anime than yuri on ICE, it still has a similar story depth when it comes to the romance portion. So go give it a try <3

The principles of witches in both animes are very similar. In both animes the witches travel out to different cities to find a city with no witch and become that city's witch. Both animes also have a very simple story lines which may appeal to both viewers in my opinion.
