Both are about magical girls whose powers are themed around emotion. The Reflectors focus their emotions into their rings to transform, while the emotions of the girls in Black Rock Shooter become alternate personas in the mindscape. The main protagonist (Mato in BRS, Hiori in Blue Reflection) is a cheerful and pure-hearted girl, but is also forcing herself to be this way, and ends up carrying the burden of her friends’ negative feelings. Hiori trying to save her sister is similar to Mato trying to save Yomi. Both have a special element that carries emotions in humans. In BRS, it is an alternate persona, and in Blue Reflection, it is a crystallized flower called a Fragment. There’s even an alternate dimension that holds people’s emotions. The Otherworld (mental world) in Black Rock Shooter, and the Common in Blue Reflection Ray. Both worlds have their own unique style associated with them.

RWBY: Hyousetsu Teikoku

Both are magical girl series worked on by the artist Huke. You can expect similar high-octane animation and artistic themes, including the magical girls wielding transformable sci-fi weapons. The settings are also very similar, both taking place in a dream world that reflects the characters’ emotions. The protagonist (Ruby in RWBY, Mato in BRS) is also trying to rescue her friend (Weiss in RWBY, Yomi in BRS) who has closed herself off in the dream world. Considering these similarities, I don’t think it’s a stretch to say that BRS had an influence on Ice Queendom’s story, considering that Huke is the creator of BRS. BRS even makes a brief cameo in Ice Queendom’s first episode.

Both are magical girl anime that start off lighthearted, but grow darker as the truth of their worlds are slowly revealed. Both have a protagonist (Homura in MadoMagi, Yuuki in PriConne) with a similar backstory that is integral to the plot, but we won’t spoil what. If you already saw one of these series, you’ll know what the twist in the other is like. The main difference here, is that Homura remembers what happened, but Yuuki doesn’t until later.

If the element is lost or destroyed, the person would be rid of their emotions, and forget who they once were. The antagonists of both series happen to be destroying these elements in an attempt to rid people of their suffering. There’s even an alternate dimension that holds people’s emotions. The Otherworld (mental world) in Black Rock Shooter, and the Common in Blue Reflection Ray. Both worlds have their own unique style associated with them.
