The age of this series shows, but the OVAs still hold up today as a classic high fantasy anime. The story itself isn't anything special and plays out like a D&D campaign, and the characters are pretty much ripped out of a D&D session as well. But that's the charm of it, It's just a straightforward high fantasy story. I'll also admit the influx of the "Isekai" genre has influenced my review as the most generic fantasy plots are masterpieces compared to that garbage.

Animation and sound wise it still holds up fairly well for something it's age, and the first episode in particular ... had animation that puts some series today to shame in comparison. Story wise as I said before, it's pretty much a D&D campaign in animated format. Your enjoyment of it hinges on whether you like those kinds of plots, I did so I liked it. The characters are all pretty generic, but that's what makes them endearing. They aren't some ridiculous over the top anime trope like a lot of "fantasy" anime does these days. Parn the main character isn't a Japanese teenager who got killed by a truck and sent to this fantasy world where he's given a ridiculous OP power that's considered weak. He's just the son of a knight who starts off as a complete greenhorn, and by the end you see his progression both in his combat skills and his personality.

All in all, it's a classic series that I'd recommend anybody who loves Fantasy or those who are tired of the bland self insert Isekai genre to check out.

A complete joke of a sequel. The old characters are caricatures of themselves, the new characters are either boring or just downright unbearable, and the plot points are beyond ridiculous. This anime has no consistency and runs on pure nostalgia. I've defended Super for a while now due to my love for the DB franchise that goes back all the way to the 90s, but even I have a limit.

I'm sure I don't even have to mention the god awful animation this show has. For one of the most decorated and recognizable anime series in the world, the way Toei treats the show ... is insulting. The writing is equally as atrocious as the writers at Toei are obviously more interested in selling toys and merchandise than writing a coherent story.

People love to rag on GT, but at this point in Super, GT was actually a better show as a whole. Yes GT had a whole host of problems on it's own, but at least it tried to keep consistency with the original series. And Goku in GT acted more like an adult despite him being turned into a kid than Goku in Super who seems to be legitimately clinically retarded. Super throws logic out the window just for the sake of selling merchandise. Super is the lowest of the low and should be treated like GT has been treated for the past two decades; a mistake.

It's honestly disappointing that I have to write this review because I adored Genesis. But for some reason they decided it was a good idea to turn a adventure fantasy anime into a soap opera with one of the worst romances between two of the worst characters I've ever had the displeasure of watching in an anime. While the visuals are gorgeous, the same can't be said for the plot or characters. Ironically, the only characters that are enjoyable are the ones from Genesis. But even that enjoyment is short lived since the writers of this season go above and beyond to shit on those ... characters while propping up the horrible new ones. Nina who starts off as an enjoyable and energetic character turns into this mentally handicapped lovestruck idiot who constantly makes questionable decisions that ends up hurting her own friends. And the old cast from Genesis are either treated horribly or used as a mouthpiece for the writers to justify the nonsense in this series. And this leads to the character that I have the biggest problem with, Charioce. The definition of Gary Stu, nothing goes wrong for this guy and despite the fact that he's a horrible person, the writers try to justify it with the whole "he did it for the great good" nonsense which immediately falls apart if you even slightly think about it. This series is a cautionary tale of how not to make a sequel and is an insult to it's great and fun predecessor Shingeki no Bahamut: Genesis.
