The age of this series shows, but the OVAs still hold up today as a classic high fantasy anime. The story itself isn't anything special and plays out like a D&D campaign, and the characters are pretty much ripped out of a D&D session as well. But that's the charm of it, It's just a straightforward high fantasy story. I'll also admit the influx of the "Isekai" genre has influenced my review as the most generic fantasy plots are masterpieces compared to that garbage.
Animation and sound wise it still holds up fairly well for something it's age, and the first episode in particular

A complete joke of a sequel. The old characters are caricatures of themselves, the new characters are either boring or just downright unbearable, and the plot points are beyond ridiculous. This anime has no consistency and runs on pure nostalgia. I've defended Super for a while now due to my love for the DB franchise that goes back all the way to the 90s, but even I have a limit.

It's honestly disappointing that I have to write this review because I adored Genesis. But for some reason they decided it was a good idea to turn a adventure fantasy anime into a soap opera with one of the worst romances between two of the worst characters I've ever had the displeasure of watching in an anime. While the visuals are gorgeous, the same can't be said for the plot or characters. Ironically, the only characters that are enjoyable are the ones from Genesis.
