BTW, since you have “The Zone” on your profile have you read Roadside Picnic yet? The film adaptation Stalker is spectacular of course but the book is definitely worth checking out in its own right. I just finished it a couple months ago!

Shingeki no Kyojin is amazing starting from the name, and the how the meaning of ''Shingeki no'' changes throughout the series.''
I said actually translates as Eren said Shingeki no Kyojin was said by Eren, and then it was translated to Attack titan, but then i mentioned that there could be more meanings in the word ''Shingeki''

I just relaxed and watched a movie last night. I decided to finally check out "The Young and the Damned" from 1950. I really love Bicycle Thieves and this film was heavily inspired by Italian neo-realism. Young and the Damned was also a big inspiration for City of God which is a film I've loved since high school!

That makes sense. All the best anime are readily available online. It’s not like “ye olde days” when Galactic Heroes and Rose of Versailles didn’t have English subs, streaming sites didn’t exist, and the only anime you could watch was stuff on TV or schlock OVAs from Blockbuster. I think a lot of my generation stopped watching anime because they never found out that there were more than 5-10 good anime ever made. We had Eva, Lain, Berserk, Bepop, Trust and Betrayal, but honestly not all that much that was respectable. Oddly enough we did get Utena, Haibane, and Texhnolyze but nobody watched them. Paranoia Agent aired on Cartoon Network between 2 shonen series and bombed HARD for being different. That’s the only reason it still has a low score on this site. My favorite anime when I was 18 was Elfen Lied, which is still my favorite to this day. It’s a highly flawed and bizarre little show, but it had the largest impact on me personally and it’s my list so why not?

I would generally agree. The last 10 years with some exceptions like Yuasa’s works have been a relatively weak time for anime . The biggest anime in the world right now outside of Japan is My Hero Academia, which just wants to cash in on the dominant popularity of Marvel movies. In 2003, anime was kicking the shit out of American comics and animation SO hard that some of the best American cartoons were trying to be anime like Avatar or Teen Titans. Now anime seems to be somewhat weak as a cultural force. At least in the United States. My favorite series last year was Vinland Saga, which despite some bad CG was a solid show all around. My favorite anime of 2018 was Made in Abyss despite the creator being a complete pedo on his Pixiv account and Twitter. 2020 has been an especially rough year, but so far I’d actually pick the Sherlock Holmes adaptation Moriarty the Patriot. It’s been fun to watch every week at least!

I definitely agree 1995-2005 was a special time for anime. Sure there were bad series that came out in that time period. Sure plenty of great anime were made before and since. However, that’s my favorite 10 year period in anime.
