I kinda marathoned it. I completed it in 1 week, I think... 5 episodes per day or something like that.. Sometimes more, sometimes less. Well, I doubt you will ruin the magic of the show. Just watch it at your own comfortable pace. For me, 1 episode per day was to little. I was hungry for more. :)
I haven't seen Utena, but compared to Yuri Kuma Arashi, the symbolism in Penguindrum is handled immensely well and is just overall much more meaningful. I like the balance of the various layers of the narrative that Penguindrum employs, which leads to different aspects of the story that people can enjoy.
Oh I didn't even realize you haven't read the manga yet. I highly highly recommend that too. Nitorin and Anna (she's my favorite) are absolutely perfect, as are Takatsuki and many other characters. Some people have had bad things to say about the ending, but I thought it was really well done.
