After an amazing experience in season 2, everyone have high hopes on season 3, hoping it will be another banger.
Turns out, this is a horrible season - worse than the ONA aired on April or even season 1.
What went wrong?
In a nutshell:
1. Using up a lot of new character's time for old characters
-Before: New season, new characters
- Now: New season, old characters gets lots of screentime
...
2. Boring racing scenes
- (Apart from ep 12) Close up shots of girls trampling grass and keep yelling and shouting for minutes straight
- No memorable matches
3. Too frequent racings
- less time for character development
- There is no climax in the show
4. Lack of emotions
- The production team expected that you can save lots of emotion by just ONE episode - and release it out like
a flood through a race
-> Climax? No.
5. Time wasting on useless scenes
ex. Sakura Bakushin-O : Her only purpose is to interact with Kitason a bunch of times - without being any motivative source for Kitason
6.Wasting characters
Ex. Duramente: A perfect character to fit in the anime
-Gets screentime but no character development
7.Talking instead of action
- Actions are the best way to develop a character - and they chose not to, but instead talking for 12 ep straight
8.Confusing character developments (the worst)
Kitasan Black:
-Real life: Nicknamed " Tough guy"
-Anime: "Glassheart" - Keeps breaking down and have to get motivated every episode
ex. Within TWO minutes:
-Want to compete overseas
- Denied by the trainer
-Got sad and went out
- Motivated from two random guys on the street
- Cheered up
- Changes idea and will compete in Japan
->Totally time wasting and no character development and no emotions saved
- Amazed by how the production can turn a horse which is strong and got the most G1 trophies among all into
a girl who is stupid ,fragile and weak
Satono Diamond:
- Expected to get main screentime (rivalry with Kitasan irl)
- Reality: NPC with ONLY ONE EP for character development - and that ep was totally not passionate enough
New side characters:
- Have screentime but... simply no character development
Overall: A complete disaster which is not recommended to newcomers and even old fans. Seriously this is the only uma musume anime I dropped due to its boringness of the first few episodes- and I came back to watch if it gets improvements. The answer is clear no.

So... This is probably the only anime I really spent time on watching since July. At the start, I actually do have high hopes about the anime. It gives me the vibes that it could be the best original anime of the year. But after watching the whole season, my hopes shattered. And with the release of Cyberpunk Edgerunners, the best original anime of the year has been basically settled down.
After watching the last episode, my feelings were mixed. Very mixed. There is quite a lot of problems in the anime, and the episode that basically crashed the whole anime is 12. Just like
...
you bought stocks at price 300 and then it dropped down to 100 immediately within 23 minutes. And for episode 13... uhh....
Well, so happened to the anime which made it so bad?
So... what do I say? Lycoris Recoil is an anime which the moving of the story plot are based on the actions of the characters, which means the character designs are the most important among all. When I first touched the anime, the whole background design, the characters, music, visuals impressed me. However, there were some "bombs" in the anime which is hidden by Chisato and Takino's interaction. So after a long time, the viewers started to pay 90% of the attention to the interactions, and the "bombs' were forgotten - until episode 12.
For episode 12, I would say this is the turning point of the whole anime. The episode which set off all the bombs. You know, this whole show is like a slice of life with some actions in it, with quite a lot of backstories, such as the DA and the antagonist, Majima. But after watching this, I would say that the fight was quite worthless and confusing.
The main reason is on the character development on Chisato. As the real protagonist, most of the characters are just tools to make her shine - including Takino. As I said before, the whole anime is based on the characters, so a little crack in the character designing can ruin it all. For this, the crack is meters long. For the first 10 episodes, what makes Chisato so popular? Her charisma. She was a very young but mature girl and she hangs onto her thoughts of not killing people. But at episode 12, Chisato turned to be the one who gets easily controlled by the words of Shinji. And the whole fighting scene is quite worthless then as it is to show the struggle in Chisato's mind- but the character is already designed, so what a waste.
Moreover, the actions of the people don't make sense. Once Chisato lost her gun she turned to be a robot who cannot move because all her actions relied on the gun somehow. And when Takino gets thrown out to the window Chisato is just watching. Not even running to help. Even if you make Chisato tried to save but tripped herself is more better than just watching. And at the end of the episode, Chisato saw her schoolbag and just run to it immediately, without any other thoughts of if that was a bait. And it was - And again Chisato watches Majima pulls out a gun and just shoot at the Lycoris. Not even planning to immediately open fire.
And for episode 13, I could understand what the anime wants to bring out, but the whole story plot is already shattered in this point, and it is really dark humor when Chisato said what she cared in front of the antagonist Majima who aimed at destroying those.
And let's say about Majima. As the boss of the whole anime, I would say he was indeed a failure. Planning to reveal that there is Lycoris and his acts and his backstory, I'm sure we all thought that it would be like Batman vs Joker. But Majima is a joke. All his friends and partners killed just to fall down from hundreds meters down and the bomb planted is fireworks. It just made the whole storyline just like a joke.
And for Takino, what I could I say? Probably the character which should deserve better. After watching the whole anime, I would say that in Takino's mind, Chisato is the only one she cared; and in Chisato's mind, Takino can be replaced by anyone else. (Conclusion after watching episode 12)
There is a lot of things to talk about with too, such as DA, which aims at securing the whole country, only to be defeated and joked by a joker....
I really have mixed feelings about this. The story has so many potentials, but apparently the production team did not handle it and make the whole show messy.
4/10.

I got recommended on this anime, claiming this is one of the masterpieces published out lately, so with curiosity I watched the whole anime without stopping. Well yes, I would claim that the anime is actually well made.
Characters: 10/10
Throughout the whole story, the protagonist, David Martinez, was improving. From a poor guy whose mum was killed in a gang fight, became an edgerunner , and was "invited" (definitely) to the party where the former edgerunner was. The side characters, including Rebecca, Maine, Kiwi, Dorio, Pilar... etc. was well described, and of course, Maine is the most outstanding among all. Not only he has
...
a interesting background, he is also the leader of the team and taught David a lot of things. After Maine's death, David became the new leader of the gang, and thinking whether killing innocents are correct since he killed one innocent mother who was going to help celebrating her son to be enrolled into school in the lab, and eventually sacrificed his life to save Lucy (the female protagonist) in the fight against Faraday and Smashing Adam. Since the whole story clearly describes the grow up of David Martinez and the interesting and outstanding side characters, I would definitely give it a 10.
Story: 9/10
The whole plot was very interesting and full of fights (and nudity), you will not stop watching once you started watching it as it grabbed your eyeballs. However, the plot was quite predictable, like: Maine's death was inevitable as it is a MUST for the growing up of David, and even before the last episode the anime already foreshadowed the death of David, so the only guess till is the end is "How many more will the side character die?" or "Will Lucy die?". It made the story... not that much of a surprise, but still a very well-made plot. I give it a 9.
Actions:10/10
I cannot use words to describe the astonishing, terrific and bloody battle scenes, so you watch by yourself. 10/10.
Music: 9/10
The opening, ending, and the bgm (soundtrack) used in the anime was very great. I do suggest you to hear the bgm where David and Lucy was on the moon, it fits perfectly into the scene.
Overall: 9.5/10 -> 10/10
Definitely worth a shot.
