Kanojo, Okurishimasu... a strong delusion of mine.
(disclaimer: this is my first review, and my english is not native, so there might be some inconguencies and language issues, so forgive me in advance :3)
Story: 4/10
The story kind of started as something interesting, (nothing exceptional anyways, but fine enough) with our protagonist, Kazuya, a 20 y.o. universitary student, being dumped by his girlfriend Mami in the first frames of the show.
To overcome his suffering for having lost his first girlfriend after two months of relationship, he decides to rent a girlfriend... litterally.
The date begins, showing us the main heroine, Chizuru Mizuhara, one of the best Rental Girlfriend
...
of the company he could choose.
The date goes well, but when comes the time to end the act, Kazuya suddenly realises that she's pretending: and what will our hero do?
He throws shit at her for being dishonest with her and the others after renting her for the second time (because he's some kind of saint in disguise, maybe?), and puts her in trouble.
A sudden call by his parents advice him that his grandma is hospitalized, and he decides to go to see her... taking Chizuru along... what could possibly go wrong?!
And then the misundertanding begins... and will probably never end.
At first, this kind of start-off intrigued me, because I tought it would have been something like Kuzu no Honkai but lighter, but going on with the show, the story begins to stale, showing off some of the clichés you'd easily find in some other poor written romantic comedy, ruining the context, which could be a little more serious in my opinion.
Art: 7/10
The art is fair enough, being very fancy and cute for the female characters, but very poor and lame for the male ones.
It's the classic artstyle used for harem stories, which doesn't necessary need a strong male lead, who could easily stole the main role from the waifus ( exceptions are Oregairu, Mahouka Koukou no Rettousei, To Aru Majutsu no Index, ecc.. , which needs a strong male lead to rise up the tenor of the story).
Anyway I kinda enjoyed it, so I'd give it a good mark.
The animation is generally fluid, but not always perfect, but hey, this is a simply Rom-Com, so I see no real issues here.
Sound: 7/10
The Op is quite good and catchy, and it fits well the lighthearted core of the anime, as it does the Ed.
I found the OSTs being nothing memorable.
Characters: 3/10
So we got to the weak spot of the series: the character developement, or better, the character themselves.
- Kazuya is the classic "virgin" you'd fin in these cheap rom-com, which want to show the spectator that even a lame ass mediocre crybaby can live a beautiful love story with a beautiful girl by doing nothing... I'll say it again: Nothing!
He does literally nothing for being estimated, loved or even cared for, if not for mercy. It's not just the fact that he's lame, embarassing or just a walking cliché: what I really hate about him, is that he's a compulsive liar!
Every time he gets a chance to tell the truth, or just to open himself with somebody, he start pulling out of nowhere the dumbest excuses and lies, even when there are no issues in telling the reality of things! And this is shown at the beginning, and it follows the whole series 'till the end, with NO redemption. Oh God what a pain in the ass!
So I'd say he's just poorly written and with no developement whatsoever.
- Chizuru is the character who screams in every scene you see her: "I'M THE BEST WAIFU!", just because her design is good and her inner self has more self-control and patience that Buddha himself, for being able to withstand all the trouble she get's into because of Kazuya.
But if take a deeper look, that's all she his: she's hollow inside, as a character, because her developement along the story is incongruent and sometimes even non-sense: at the beginning she's forced by Kazuya's lies to pretend she's his girlfriend (asking him to pay, obviously), and as the story goes on, she starts to have compassion for Kazuya's broken heart, and in one way or another she decides to help him find a real girlfriend... But WHY in the world, would she fall in love with him? (it's not spoiler, 'cause I think it's obvious.)
Sure, he occasionally shows off some good qualities, but they're all deleted by his lame and always pretending behavior! I'm okay with the fact that he's a human being (maybe? Sometimes I tought of him as an ameba or something like this), but he's not worth you! Just as the other Two girls, Ruka and Sumi: I'm really worried of the man you've gone out with before meeting Kazuya, 'cause if he's the best, I'm concerned about who's the worst.
- Mami: I've nothing special to say about Mami, because she's just a bored bitch who doesn't believe in love. That's all we know about her, other than the fact she's annoyed, for reasons, at ANY girl the passes near Kazuya.
I'm not talking about Ruka and Sumi, 'cause spoilers, but, as you may think, they're bot rental-girlfriends, and I personally feel really sad for Ruka, because she has bad tastes, and I think Sumi is the most developed character of the show... too bad she only appears in one episode!
Enjoyement: 5/10
I started watching this show as soon as it begun, dropped it at the 6th episode, in order to take it back three days ago and finish it.
As I hate to admit it, I kinda enjoyed watching it, but only because I wanted to know where the show was going (Spoiler: approssimatly nowhere), and I don't really regret watching it.
But the cringe sometimes became unbearable, and I had to talk trash about it every time I finished one or two episodes.
For this weak balance between some wanting to watch it, and wanting to drop it, I'd give it a mediocre 5/10.
Overall: 5/10
The average between the grades is precisely 5,2/10, but obviosly I had to round it to 5/10.
All-in-all I think this show is worth watching just if you like almost plotless stories which contain good looking waifus.
And that's all, I really hoped it would have gone above average, and I really hoped it would get better going on with the story, but it turn it out to be one of the classic plotless harem rom-com with no whatsoever character development and inner inspection.
I really hope you like this review, sorry for being so logorroic, and thanks for reading it 'till the end.
