Un-Go

I'm very surprised no one has recommended this yet. Specifically, the Bake TV series is similar in that it's about a normal, competent guy protagonist who solves problems of others with the help of a supernatural being. Much like the prequel to Un-Go is Inga-Ron, the prequel to Bake is Kizumonogatari. Both sets help make the shows deeper. And both series have some cringy moments.

Un-Go: Inga-ron
add

Much like Inga-ron is the prequel to Un-Go that is hinted about throughout the series, Kizu is the prequel to the Bakemonogatari series that is likewise constantly referred to. Both give the origin of how the badA superpower comes together with the normie protagonist. Both add so much to their parent stories as well.

Mayonaka no Occult Koumuin
add

This is a show about a main character who can communicate with spirits whose behavior is so far removed from humanity's understanding that even he struggles with it. Buuut they all think he's actually his ancestor, whom they loved. And he uses his exhausting abilities to the benefit of both races. <--- this description works for either anime. However, Natsume has more endearing characters who make more logical appearances.

Lupin III: Part 5

Lupin and Favaro remind me quite a bit of one another. Additionally, you have the strong, young female character in Nina and Ami. Both are lushly animated, with fantastically epic music and storylines that build off of one another, though vastly different settings.

If you liked
Simoun

...then you might like
Darling in the FranXX
add

Reposting per guidelines: If you enjoyed the mood, tone, mild humor, and themes of growing from childhood to adulthood in a variety of ways, Simoun and Darling are the shows for you. Simoun is similar to Darling in many aspects, specifically that it is about couples piloting advanced devices that no one seem to clearly understand. In both series, the couples must have a harmonic relationship for piloting to be successful, which often results in difficulties as the couples try to grow up in their own individual ways. Both shows start out light and get deep quickly, with death, destruction, and lasting effects. Both shows are in a dystopian “super future” or alternate sci-if reality.

Concrete Revolutio: Choujin Gensou
add

Very similar animation, character design, and story telling. Concrete clearly pays homage to Kikaider in several ways. In an early episode the main character of Concrete (Jiro) is seen acting quite a bit like the main character of Kikaider (also Jiro). Both characters were unaware and/or rejected their true natures and had a lady helping them accept it.

Yuri Kuma Arashi
add

These two shows are crazy similar. I would question whether or not Yurikuma was written as a sequel. We have similarly painted backgrounds, fluffy, starry, love love accessories, and even crazy similar, over the top, and repeated sequences. And, of course, overreaching metaphors "hidden" in the light yet dark anime. It's bonkers.

Space☆Dandy
add

Lupin III: Part II was one of Adult Swim's first anime, and a great choice. In 2013, we see Space☆Dandy simulcast on AS. Space☆Dandy's main character is similar to Lupin in that they're both tall, lanky men with black hair. Both enjoy women at times and gentlemen in most others...and top their fields in seeking out rare treasures while the show goes on in an over-the-top way with a focus on gorgeous women and outrageous treasure/aliens. They're both extremely '70s-tastic and unapologetic about it.

Both have a new detective in a police department the uses new, cutting edge technology (or at least new enough that the characters need to explain it for us). Almost every episode revolves around solving a case with that technology.

You think the series will be light and happy like other fare in its genre. Then you're slapped in the face with the darkness of the show as well as the strange animation style (the witches realities and the Fraulein Eule sway are very similar).

K-On!
add

Manabi is set in the very slightly not so distant future, where a slice of life anime takes place involving girls in a club not doing a whole lot but still managing to make a great, cute, adorable, anime. Manabi is K-on minus the music. Momo is Mugi, Manabi is Yui, Mika is Mio, Mei is Azusa, Mucchii is Ritsu

First off, M+H pays homage to Ergo Proxy with an Easter Egg: several copies of the Vincent Law book (as seen taking up an entire library in Ergo Proxy) is seen in the show. But besides that, both feature some unique female leads that go on a journey.

TMGK and Red Garden are both series about a happy go lucky group of high schoolers who find themselves in an unusual situation and become unlikely friends (teammates?). They both have creepy settings and both episodic and series long stories. Although I wasn't a fan of Red Garden, I think others who enjoyed TMGK may enjoy the dead girls of Red Garden as well!
