Preliminary (9/11 eps)
9 eps in, I'd say this is one of the better reborn isekais out there. The main character is reincarnated in a fantasy world having retained previous knowledge of the regular world. Using his outlook, the main character becomes a genius that will reshape the new world.

The art and animation feels high production. It has a dark fantasy tone to it, despite the moments of fan service levity. The characters in the world are well drawn out, and you're interested to see how their relationships develop with the main character.

The pace is slow but feels deliberate. There isn't a lot of action. But the most ...

Preliminary (13/16 eps)
AoT was already a great series, and somehow the 4th season (so far 13 eps in) manages to top all the previous ones. It does what a good series is supposed to by building on everything that has happened before. It really is reaching its pinnacle.

The season takes place 4 years after the events of the last season. We get to see what is happening across the sea and learn about the wider world.

The anime consistently keeps you engaged with its compelling story and characters. Every episode has you yearning for the next one. Just when you think the series can't offer any more ...

Mixed Feelings
Similar to Ascendance of a Bookworm, a person is reborn in a fantasy world with knowledge of the old world which he uses to become a genius and change the new world. But instead of being obsessed with books, the main character is obsessed with mechs. And so he advances mech technology in the new world.

It's interesting to watch at first, seeing the main character be underestimated by everyone around him, then gain the respect of the elites in the world with his innovative thinking. But once he's reached that height, the conflict disappears, things come too easily to the main character, and the story ...

Preliminary (9/24 eps)
A cross between Reincarnated as a Slime and Arifureta.

It's a decent isekai so far in my opinion. It's similar to Reincarnated as a Slime, only the main character is born as a spider, and we spend most episodes (so far) in the dungeon where the main character is born.

We see her fight new monsters, level up, gain new skills, and slowly learn the mechanics of the world. She is alone, struggles immensely, and talks to herself. So it's similar to Arifurea in that respect, but the tone and comedy is similar to Slime. We get a sense that she'll eventually become OP in the ...

Mixed Feelings
Overpowered hero Shounen that hides his power and is underestimated by peers and everyone around him. The set up and world is good but the series lacked a soul. The show hits typical shounen tropes: special main character with world destroying powers; powers supressed by a seal; gains friends that changes his outlook; school battle arc.

As the main character has to supress his emotions to supress his powers, it's hard to root or even find him likeable. You don't feel a connection with the other characters either. You also don't get a sense of a story as events just kind of happen. The inconsistencies ...

Preliminary (139/170 eps)
Poor man's Naruto, but still a fun, easy watch. It follows the shounen tropes and structure of Naruto: a kid born different from everyone else in the world; wanting to the greatest in the world; underestimated by peers; overcomes battles through willpower; rivalry with a cool popular kid; everyone becomes his friend because of his tenacity and morals.

It doesn't achieve the same level of feels as Naruto, except for the odd moment at the end of a grand battle when the protagonist (Asta) pulls off the impossible. The series has the typical shounen arcs: battle arc; invasion arc etc.

Asta can be incredibly annoying and ...

World Trigger (Anime) add
It's a Shounen with the key difference that the lead protagonist is weak and isn't special/chosen. There also isn't as much anime goofiness as most shounen.

The series follows typical shounen tropes: a growing rolodex of side characters; an invasion arc; a battle arc; a world with a power/strength hierarchy; expanding lore etc.

Although the main character shows potential with tactics, he relies on others to get through battles. In typical shounen fashion, characters bond and support him due to his tenacity and moral compass.

There isn't much in the way of melodramatic feels. No grand moments that make you jump out of your chair. ...

Shiki (Anime) add
Shiki moves at a deliberate and frustrating pace. Hitchcock described suspense as having a ticking bomb under a table that the audience is aware of but the characters around the table are not. In the case of Shiki, the bomb is a vampire virus and the characters are the residents of the backwater village, Sotoba.

The series focuses on a medley of characters occupying the village and how they one-by-one become victims of this spreading vampire virus. We follow an introspective look into their everyday lives and how the storm of this strange illness fractures relationships and destroys the community.

That is ...
