Spy x Family is a cute, lighthearted family comedy with spy action elements. Its art style and tone are similar to animes like Millionaire Detective.

It's set in a fictional place in an era similar to the 50s-60s and is about a suave super spy called Twilight who is tasked with a mission that would require him to have a family. Twilight randomly finds cute Anya and the dim and naive Yor to fill those roles. The thing is, Anya is secretly telepathic and Yor is secretly a deadly assassin.

The comedy and fun come from the three trying to maintain their secret whilst playing their ... alter-ego family roles and the challenges they come across to maintain their identities and fulfill their tasks. Hijinks ensue. But there's a warmness to how each soon become invested in their family roles.

It isn't plot heavy. Nor is the story filled with tense twists and turns. Rather, the draw of the anime is the characters and the extreme cuteness of Anya. She reads minds but is still a child, and her reactions to the things she telepathically hears are gold. Each episode contains some obstacle that the family must overcome.

Cross between Ascendance of a Bookworm, Dr. Stone, and a bit of Mushoku Tensei.

If you still enjoy Isekais where the OP hero surprises everyone around them with their skills, then this is the anime for you.

It falls into the sub-category of genius Isekai. The main character is a medical expert transported to a fantasy world where medicine is still basic. He uses his modern knowledge to better the world, surprising people along the way.

Similar to Dr. Stone, the hero goes into detail about diseases and the chemical compounds required to cure them. Like Mushoku Tensai, we focus on the inner thoughts of the hero ... and how he keeps his background a secret from everyone else. There is also magic in the world and the main character is OP with them.

3 eps so far and the pace and world-building are good. The hero is smart and intelligent. It's pretty grounded and it doesn't sidetrack to fan service or harem aspects.

Man's uncle wakes up from a 17 year coma and learns he was in a fantasy world during that time.

It's mainly a slice-of-life comedy with fantasy Isekai elements. If you watch anime and play games, you'll get the jokes. It references real games and anime, especially stuff from the late 90s.

It takes place in the real world where the uncle retells his Isekai experience to his nephew. The humor comes from how out of touch the uncle is, not just from what he missed during his 17-year hiatus, but also from how he lived his life in the fantasy realm. It turns a lot of ... the tropes on its head to a comedic effect.

Definitely worth watching to see how it develops.

Realist Hero, harem edition. Continuing on from the first season, Souma continues his reform of the fantasy world. Not only that, he begins to build his harem.

The story moves at a snail's pace. As most of the world-building has been done in the first season, this just adds a little more to it, but it doesn't really develop all that much either. It touches on Machiavellianism to resolve some of the conflicts. The rest is about modern reforms that Souma puts in place to better the lives of civilians. Oh, and suddenly all the girls around him want to marry and bed him.

There is little ... conflict as most of the world's issues and development are told through voiceover. Everything works out and happens with ease for Souma, creating little tension and drama. It's an easy watch but doesn't really excite in any way.

A high schooler hides his genius to help his class rank up in the high school league.

It's high school tactics anime similar to Kakegurui where a genius enters an elite school with an elaborate scoring system and shakes things up.

The anime hits all the usual character tropes, from the stoic hero to the usual tsundere love interest and a dandere fawning over the hero. There's entertainment to be had to see the main character turn the tables on cocky elites and change the status quo. However, there are pacing issues and there aren't as many tests/games and twists as other strategy animes.

The characters are interesting ... and watching their relationships develop does keep things interesting. However, the main plot gets sidetracked quite a bit, mainly for fan service scenes. There's a whole episode dedicated to a bunch of the boys trying to perv on the girls, which all feels like filler.

It thinks it's smarter than it actually is, especially with philosophical quotes at the beginning. It's a similar anime to Kakegurui, but slower-paced, not as clever, and not as well animated.

An overly-cautious human becomes overpowered in a fantasy realm.

It's similar to Konosuba with its humor and style. The main character is a human summoned by a Goddess into a fantasy world to defeat the Demon Lord. But because he's overly cautious, he over-equips and over-levels himself, making himself OP.

The anime relies on the one joke that the main character is humorless but powerful, and his over-preparedness allows him to overcome seemingly impossible odds. His behavior frustrates everyone around him, in particular his main companion, the Goddess Rista.

Most of the comedy comes from the Goddess Rista, with her overly neurotic and frustrated reactions. It's what ... keeps the anime fun and entertaining to watch. The art style is spot on with the facial reactions, as is the voice acting.

There's less world-building and character development compared to other fantasy and Isekai animes as the emphasis is on the comedy between the two main characters. Though entertaining, it's missing the elements that would elevate the story, such as stakes, tension, and drama.

There is little spent in the fantasy world since the main character spends it all training to become OP in the Divine Realm with other Gods, so you never really get a sense of place, geography, history, politics etc of the fantasy world.

There are no side plots and the other characters don't really add much to the plot, nor is there really any kind of emotional development until the last couple of episodes. It's still entertaining, mainly for the comedy.

Vivy gives Ghost in the Shell Stand Alone Complex vibes with its style, structure and themes.

Similar concept to the Terminator where a human vs AI apocalypse occurs and an AI is sent back to time to seek assistance with another AI to prevent the disaster from happening. As the main character is an AI, the timeline is spread over decades with recurring characters.

It's pretty episodic in its structure. Each single/two ep is a story arc where the main characters solve a problem and prevent a disaster with philosophical pontification on the themes of AI and society along the way. That's where a lot of the ... heavy focus on the anime is. As a result, some of the characters are a little short-changed.

The animation is good, particularly the fight scenes. It's grounded with its combat and set pieces. Reminds me of Ghost in the Shell SAC and Psycho Pass. I'm surprised this wasn't done by Production IG.

The story gets a bit wishy-washy toward the end, but doesn't take away its story so far.

Man is summoned into a fantasy world and made king and uses his human world knowledge to reform the fantasy world.

The engagement of this anime is similar to Ascendence of the Bookworm. The majority of the anime is spent learning about the fantasy world's problems and watching the main character come up with solutions. He is typically underestimated by people who don't know him before winning them over and therefore growing a bigger reputation as the anime progresses.

It's an OP anime, but instead of being physically strong, it's the main character's ingenuity that drives the story. His ingenuity comes in the form of being ... a decent strategist and implementing modern knowledge and social policies to win everyone around him.

The main character is a Mary Sue who can do no wrong, which becomes the main negative of the show. There is a real lack of conflict and stakes. Everything comes too easily. Everyone is too nice to each other. It takes away any tension and excitement. There are no real story twists, just the odd reveal and turn to show the main character's foresight when dealing with certain obstacles.

Realist Hero is a sit-back and easy-to-watch anime.

In typical Isekai, he also grows a harem of female characters that fawn over him because of his smartness and kindness. This aspect doesn't take away too much of the story nor are there really any fan service scenes, which is typical of animes in this genre. Rather, Realist Hero is driven by story and world-building.

A really decent anime that's a cross between re:Zero, Shiki, Higurashi, F: The Perfect Insider, and probably others. It takes place on an island village where the protagonist, having just arrived, finds himself embroiled in a twisty supernatural mystery.

The story moves at a decent pace and it keeps you engaged with constant twists and its continually deepening mystery. Every episode keeps you hooked to see what happens next and it keeps you guessing as new questions are raised before previous ones are fully answered.

There is good tension in some scenes and the animation is decent.

The main character is also pretty proactive and is quick to ... pick up on what's happening. He's smart (in comparison to other animes). Smart enough for the viewer to not get too frustrated and he surprises you with some occasional clever decisions.

So far, it has kept me engaged, and hopefully the ending won't be too disappointing - which is a curse that happens often when writers write themselves into a corner.

The anime continues the journey of Hajime and the gang as they embark on new adventures.

It follows all the typical Isekai shounen tropes and mundane animation quality as well as heavy fan service. Girls fawn over and fight for the main character's attention. A lot of the anime is dedicated to this - watching girls rub their bodies against the main character and seeing faces go red.

The fight scenes are unexciting and lack any kind of tension. They follow the same pattern of one side blasting the opponent, then being surprised they survived it, followed by a counter move. Rinse and repeat until one ... side wins.

It wouldn't be too bad if the animation was good, but it uses the same frames with little movement. There is very little excitement in the story and the plot.

The most interesting part is the character development of the high schoolers and Hajime's interaction with them. Unfortunately, there is very little of this as most of the focus is on fan service.
