100% non-spoiler review!!! I rarely write review for shows, but looking at this anime's MAL page alone, there's certainly a lot of varying opinions on the show. I saw a 5s, 10s, 3s (score), and pretty much every different score there is to give on the reviews. I can conclude that this movie is pretty controversial, therefore I want to give my own general opinion on this movie and why you may not want to watch this show OR maybe you will like this.
I did a little research, there isn't that much around this movie, and honestly the fact that it had "Netflix" on

it turned me off a bit. "Studio Colorido" is a new name to me, and I haven't watched anything from the at all. It has a 7.35 score (as of writing this), average but not bad. The main voice actress (Mirai Shida) didn't really stand out, she voiced a female character in mha (melissa, from the 1st movie) but nothing else other than that. The main voice actor though (Hanae Natsuki), voiced Tanjiro from Demon Slayer (and many others from other anime) which stood out and surprised me. Anyways that's it basically, not a whole lot, but don't judge by it's cover, the real deal starts from here.
Story 4~5/10 (Decent, Mediocre). Now I don't know why Decent is lower than Mediocre, but nevermind that... Story, pretty standard, you could even guess it from the trailer/s. A girl who is your "perfect" outgoing, bright, female character actually doesn't have the best situation inside and no one could guess because apparently in that world no one knows "fake smiles" (except for adults?) and stuff like that. Anyways, she tries her best to get close to a boy she likes at school and keeps failing, so instead she turns into a cat and goes near that boy and you couldn't guess it! The boy just happens to have sympathy for cats and ends up really liking that cat, who is actually the girl! And now the girl has identity issues and she needs to solve them. It's a tale involving magic and love~
Imma just straight up say it, this story/plot is more aimed towards younger audiences. It's simple and straightforward while being cringy, boring, and unrealistic at the parts where it's supposed to be realistic. There's plenty of unexplained things, and this being my personal opinion: It drags for some time. I really feel like this type of plot didn't need 1hr and 40mins to get over with. Now why do I say it is aimed towards younger audiences? Because they wouldn't notice several faults this movie shows. But if you're bored and have nothing else to do, this is a great time-killer. It's wholesom and it's great to laugh or cringe at the stuff this movie shows. If you think you're that type of person who wouldn't notice or could ignore the shortcomings of this movie, then even better! Anyways, not much else to say. The story perfectly fits with this type of movie, and with it being a movie not a series you obviously have to expect the plot being unsatisfactory.
Art (9, Great) & Sound (7, Good)
Personally, I do not expect much with these two categories. If the art fits in with the theme or if it just looks good overall, I have nothing to complain about, same with the sound. Although I'd assume sound is more of a personal preference than all things (especially songs). The Art is cute, and it perfectly fits with this anime, the animation I thought was a bit clunky at first but I had no more complaints later on. I didn't get much of an impression from the sounds, I had no complaints either, still I liked the ending ost, it was great!
Character (3, Poor)
You could have a decent/mediocre plot, but you have to at least give us decent/mediocre characters as well! The main characters were absolute rocks (a term for "characters with little to none personality", or basically as bland as an inanimate object such as a "rock"). Let me explain.
So there's bascially just two main characters and they really just focus on them, all other supporting characters are really just there to fit in with the theme/environment this movie has (aka trees in the background, grass on the ground, the sky, etc).
Sasaki Miyo "Muge" (her nickname, totally not there to prove that I actually watched the movie lmfao): She's your typical outgoing, fun, bright, energetic girl. You often see this type of waifu, oh sorry, "female love interest" in anime. She pretends to be all sunshine and rainbows but is actually dealing with a whole lot of problems herself, hence the "fake smile". Asides from that, she doesn't have anything else. Other than being bland, uninteresting, boring, cringy, etc etc (with her being the "main" character and all...), I would say that her character doesn't really make sense to me. She has been through traumatic things, and she's just putting on this "fake smile" because she wants to. If it's fake however, then what's her true personality? The movie obviously doesn't show it, if it did I wouldn't be mentioning this. After all her traumatic experiences, she's still very gullible and easily influenced. Somehow, she saw the world for the better when she met "Hinode" (the male mc) while being a "cat" (and with the whole fireworks thing, I swear every single time!) He supposedly captured her maiden heart when he found and took care of her, but shouldn''t the first thing in your mind be like: "Why and how am I a cat!? What do I do?" instead of "OMG he's so hot he came and took care of him im so head-over-heels for him now!". The first thought and freaking out/panicking should be the only option for every normal person out there, and um yeah she's a normal teenage girl. Afterwards, the way she shows her love for Hinode is cringy & disturbing, then both the characters start misinterpreting things. Oh, the standards for Romance anime these days... I could blabble an entire day just for this character, but let's move on.
Hinode, Kento: The movie starts off by introducing him as your typical "smart" kid. Afterwards you don't see much from him, just him loving the cat (which is the other mc, if you still don't know) and some family stuff. Later the movie makes him unable to interpret things and direct blame at the ABSOLUTE wrong person which shatters the impression of him being "smart". Later they try to give him a redemption arc or something, and he realised he needed to "change", to be braver at stating his desires and love. Moreover, we didn't get the apology which he stated he needed to do. Anyways, pretty much just like the other mc, bland & uninteresting. The movie tries to make him more interesting and fleshed-out, down-to-earth human being, but it was so uneffective it did the opposite.
**spoilers**
Basically he recieved a letter from Muge, not really a confession but just trying to cheer him up. Pretty wholesome eh? Then a random kid snatched the letter, and like kids (they're probably 3rd years in mid school btw...) open it and start reading it to everyone. Hinode then gets angry, at MUGE, and procceeds to say he doesn't like pushy people and now hates her... I absolutely despised this scene. Not only is it chilidish, doesn't make sense, unrealistic, cringy, and more, but Hinode freaking blamed Muge who was just trying to cheer him up, when he really should've punched the random kid instead. I get movies like this has to deliver a blow for the turning point to send the characters to rock bottom, but why in the world would you do it like this. It doesn't make ANY
sense whatsoever...

I'm going to rate the entire series (s1~movie) in this review, because it is absurd how many people just drop or forget this after s1, which is reasonable but unfortunate. And if I do it on s2 or the movie I would assume the reader has already experienced the corresponding shows. I'm here to persuade you watch this 24ep (including special)+movie show which is already great for a harem romcom. This season alone, best would be 7/10. But I'm telling y'all, bear with it, please. Watch this season, go on the the next ss, and finally watch the movie (the special episode is optional but

This is a great action-filled dark sci-fi anime that can be very enjoyable. I was watching a lot of romcom, harem, romance anime and watching this made me glad to come back to other genres. I haven't actually seen a lot of anime revolved around this kind of genre but this made me want more. I can recommend it to everyone who doesn't mind some dark backstories.
Story The story is straightforward at first, but as you progress you'll find it more and more complex. This anime doesn't have a lot of worldbuilding, which I found disappointing but what can you do with an 11 episode anime? ... |
