Both take place in a world that is overrun by these huge monsters, with humanity at the brink of extinction. In both series, the remainder of humanity is living in a closed off area surrounded by a barrier/wall that keeps the giant monsters away. The main characters in both are a group of people who try to fight for survival against all odds and destroy all the monsters that 'took their freedom away from them'. If you like one you might not necessarily love the other, but its possibly still worth checking out to see something with a pretty similar concept.  

Young girls become magical girls and suddenly are into a life or death situation with a responsibility perhaps too heavy to wear.
