The anti heroic epic of Burgund is a great story, much better than I expected at first.
I read volume 1, looked fairly good, but nothing to write home about. I didn't really enjoy volume 2. But then, starting from volume 3, it's just awesomeness after awesomeness. Let me take it slowly.
This is a modern fantasy series. By that I mean that this takes place in a fantasy world with magic and knights and such, but they have a level of technology similar to ours (at least for when it came out) with cars and phones and such. Personally, I prefer just good old fantasy, but
...
this series is an exception. I really enjoyed how the world was build in this series.
I can't talk much about the characters without spoiling, and I wouldn't want to ruin anyone's experience, so I'll just make some general comments. I liked all the characters, they all to their job properly. You hate the villains, like the heroes, the heroines are hot, some deaths legit hit me in the feels. Also, most characters have really good development.
Let's take the main character, Shunabaran, or Shun, as an example. In volume 1 he is a nobody, and only towards the end of the volume does he discover his power. It's a cheat power that basically makes it impossible for him to lose. But that power is kind of incovenient due to some restrictions, which feels really annoying as a reader. But hey, that annoys Shun too, so on volume 4 he changes a few things, which makes his powers more useful, and he becomes an MC that you can be proud of. We keep that up until the final arc, at which point the final boss takes Shun's power for himself, and now Shun has to prove that what's special about him isn't his powers.
Obviously I'm avoiding spoilers, but to make a long story short, the characters in this story are very interesting and very well written.
Of course, there are also bad points in this series. For example, I felt that the MC's family was a bit too big, like needlessly so, to the point where some people feel redundant. But these bad points are few and far between, and absolutely don't ruin the story.
If possible, you should abosultely give this series a chance. I believe you'll enjoy it.
