I've been reading the manga for a few years now and not much has happened in the story from when I first started reading it. I love Sawako with her awkwardness and Kazehaya with his cheerful attitude but I just find this manga so .... slooow. It moves at the pace of a snail, no even slower than that.

I love the secondary characters of this manga though. Chizuru and Ryu pairing up is something I've been waiting for for so long now and it seems that it may be happening soon! As other reviewers have said, I think that their relationship is more realistic ... than any of the others in the story. I cant wait for their story, let's hope it doesnt take another 77 chapters to get there :D

I dont understand how this Manga could be ranked as one of the top in Japan for this year... I had read up to Chapter 10 in complete bordom and dropped it.. Then i read It was rated pretty highly... This sparked my interest for I wondered why... This lead me to reading it to its latest chapter and im still wondering why. Well I'll admit that the only thing pulling me through was this 'Why' feeling, and the guy, because he was the only refreshing charchter in the story.

I have come to the conclusion that This story is soo popular because it feeds ... off of 'The Rings' popularity. There was alot of potential, The idea was good, scary looking girl that class nicknames as Sadako.. But Instead of liking her Charchter, the Char pissed me off...

The storylines are all over used, and maybe that would have been alright... But they were dragged out for too long..

I just dont understand the popularity behind this at all.. :S

Definitely better than the anime! Sometimes, things take a while before they truly start to get their footing, as was the case with Kimi ni Todoke.

Kimi ni Todoke is a standard slice of life high school romcom. You got an unpopular girl that gets with the most popular guy in school. It's a cliche story. Though the strength of Kimi ni Todoke is how it tells the story, and the characters in the story. The story actually has characters that go through realistic developments and overcome realistic struggles. You have the person who's insecure, you have the ... awkward person, you have the impatient person, you have the lovestruck idiot, you have the person who only lives in the now, etc. You have the troubles of love, and people getting rejected. I do love that this story has people move on in a healthy way, and there's no animosity left behind from the rejection. Even with the crush on older men, it was treated with respect. Obviously, older men aren't into young girls (unless there's something wrong with you), so the rejection is inevitable. Though I do like how they handle said rejection, and have the girls move on. That's the mature way to handle things, because most people relate to having a crush on an older person who's out of reach. I even like how they subverted the trope of accepting your lover as they are. Sometimes, people don't like themselves and want to make an effort to change. Forcing them to stay as they are causes them to STAGNATE, and this manga had a brilliant portrayal of that.

It's the typical slice of life high school romcom, but there are touches of wisdom within the story. I definitely recommend this series. 8/10, it's a good series.

I've just completed Kimi Ni Todoke within 3 days, I'm certain that im never going get over how this manga have made me filled with so many emotions. Each characters' development is just so down to earth and precious that i'm truly grateful to Shina Karuho for bringing this series to life!! I've known this series as i've began on my journey into a shoujo manga fan, and it just tops the charts like no other!!

The story has touched upon so many aspects in terms of school life, romance, friendships, personal growth, family and more. The pacing is good and shows how each emotions are ... so precious and genuine when the each of the characters are trying to convey it across to one another. I can say that i truly love ALL the characters in this series, it's just so good that i wish i was even part of their journey!! 30 volumes is honestly not enough i wanna see more of their future till marriage. (100% shoujo fan-girl at heart :3)

I'm in awe with the whole series as it speaks for its true and true shoujo genre like no other. I might be exaggerating but i highly recommend this series for those who has yet to get into genre's like shoujo and school life!! 100%

I've been reading many shoujo mangas most of people think are masterpeices, but they'are not, at lest, most of them... I read Kaicho wa Maidsama, Ao haru ride so and so... But none of them impacted me as Kimi ni did... I mean, its so realistic, its not just a manga, its all about youth of our character and how they're growing. Somehow this manga can be slow pace, but its cuz Shiina is telling us about the Sawako and Hazeya's story... Most of the character in this series are really good and have this feeling that you dont want to lose trace on them, ... you see how they are making mistakes and bare themselves. This serie is not cliché manga shoujo with a anti-social character and the good-looking guy, its more than that. Sawako got used to people treating her as monster and hold all on her herself, Hazehaya is not just the good guy, its someone inmature and selfish. Yoshida and Chizu have a good background, Yoshida having the tipic chaildhood friend relationship with Ryu and notice about her feelings, Chizu being treated like a slut from men and she has to overcome it. Anyways I thinks is gonna kinda difficult i will see other manga like this

5 Story : Sawako is a scary girl that is actually very shy awkward caring girl she meets a popular guy
who she falls in love with because of the fact that he is loved by all and not afraid of her and will even call her by her real name unlike her classmates seems original right correct but the thing is after the boy loves her and they become a couple is when everything falls apart... there is no story just filler with a little character development for the other characters... for around 3 books...
it falls into mush land and so does the ... characters... the plot was just gone it might have came back but I didn't want to stick around and see all the drama died.

4 Art: The art was very plain but did manage make Sawako look very scary and cute though so the style did fit the story and the art in the back looked nicer to me...


7 Characters.
The characters were fleshed out well but character development was not done correctly and all of there quirks vanished eventually and the characters became more stiff but it was fun cleaning out there layers at times but they just lost there depth in the process.


5 Enjoyment: It was so boring for me the first book was very charming but then the jokes fell apart and then the all of the bad things were sorted out and the relationship had started though I liked how the anime approached random topics like charming things like the little men and one of the characters love of ramen.

This manga made me feel all kinds of emotions from sadness to pure happiness, made me cry but also made me smile genuinely.

We can see great character development for every main character of the series, especially Sawako. The art style develops beautifully too, props to the author Karuho-sensei! The characters and emotions they convey are drawn nicely and they have the ability to make the reader's heart throb along with them. You can feel the emotions and feelings from the art.

The story makes you keep reading, and once you finish it makes you want to continue and read the whole thing again. The ending left ... me crying but happy.

Kimi ni Todoke remains my favorite romance manga, maybe even my overall favorite manga of all time. Please give it a go <3

Kimi ni Todoke is probably one of the best from this shoujo, romcom genre. It's funny, it's likable, every character is somebody to root for. Nobody feels like a device for story progression, and everything is so natural. The conflicts the characters face are 100% realistic and understandable and really helps establish that not everything is all sunshine and happiness like other romance animes/mangas may portray. It's not overly sappy or annoying, nor is it too slow like other mangas may seem.

Overall, this is one of my favorite mangas, and I wholeheartedly recommend it to everybody. I hoped to see a bit more of Kazehaya ... and Sawako in the end, but the ending we got was enough for my content.

Story 9/10
I think, at least in my experience, that it is rare to find a literary work where you can actually follow people's life for a long period of time and remain interested until the end. What I loved about this manga is that we saw the whole process of Sawako knowing the others, they all becoming friends, beginning relationships, falling in love, struggling in their relationships, Sawako finally being able to express herself without fears and how each characters' life path likely concludes. I think this manga will be very interesting to people that like slice of life style. I read the ... manga after watching the anime, because the story is so well told and developed that I really needed to see what happened next. The manga did not disappoint, and actually gets a higher score than the anime because of the many details we didn't get to see in the anime, as usually happens with adaptations (however, I must say, I think Kimi Ni Todoke is one of the most faithful adaptation to its original source that I have ever seen! you can literally start the manga where the anime left off and you wouldn't be missing anything at all..I had to double check myself though). You know, this manga might not have the most original script, but the story is so consistently well presented, that it does seem unique within is genre.

Art 10/10
So, I haven't read much manga, but I found the drawings in this manga to be absolutely beautiful and captivating. I usually prefer anime than manga because the drawings are more realistic, however, in this manga, if you could add soundtrack, and voices, it would feel totally like watching an anime.

Characters 10/10
I have never seen a show or movie, or read a book where ALL characters were so likable and would make you interested into knowing more about them. In this manga, none of the characters feel like secondary or extra as they all have clear roles. I really really liked the strong characters developments we see happening with ALL of the characters. In the anime, and beginning of the manga, Sawako was so frustrating and exasperating, but by the end of it (manga) she is a completely different person. None of the "villains" (Kurumi or Kento) feel like villains at all and they actually also have many positive inputs and development. Yano is another character whose journey was beautifully put. Well, all of them really! and I hope that someday we can get to read about Ruy's and Chizu's wedding, whether Pin and Yano get together and what happens to Kento and Kurumi (we all know Sawako and Shouta will be a item forever, so not that curious about them).

Enjoyment 9/10
This part is not getting a 10 because yes, as much as I loved this manga and the characters development, Sawako was very annoying at the beginning and I couldn't deal with her most of the times.

This might not be fair to the mangaka, but I am giving this a 9 because a 10 to me means something insanely good, mind-blowingly out of this world, and Kimi Ni Todoke is not that. However, I really really enjoyed this manga and would recommend it to people, especially if you have seen the anime. I have been engaged with this material for a while, haven't I? so that means it is really good!

No spoilers at all, just how I feel after just finishing the entire manga.

Kimi ni Todoke did a really good job making me feel the characters' drama, happiness, joy, and all the emotions that come with teenage romance. Even though I’m not a teenager anymore, it brought me back in time with a lot of memories, and it made me wish for a love story like that to happen to me.

The story follows the female character Kuronuma Sawako through her high school days as she tries to get better at socializing with her classmates, discovering and understanding her feelings for her friends, and of course, ... for the person she falls in love with. The story can be slow-paced at times, but it is still enjoyable. The author does a great job of getting deep into not only the main character but also her closest friends. As a reader, I formed strong connections with Sawako and her friends, and I ended up feeling like I was also part of that circle of friendship. I felt all their emotions, struggles, and happiness. It was sad, happy, fun, frustrating, and so much more.

I wish the author had given us chapters showing more of the characters future at the end, but it is what it is, it was still an enjoyable ending. I’m not sure if I will read it again in this life, but many of the characters' moments will definitely stay in my memories until my end (hopefully not too soon). This was definitely an awesome ride.

Kimi ni Todoke was one of the first shoujo manga series that I read when I first gained a strong passion for anime and manga. So I couldn't really hold such a strong opinion of it when reading, or watching it.

However, coming back to it now, and going over it once again, I never got to see just how amazing this series really is.



Story: 8

I won't say it is a perfect story. However, I haven't really seen anything like it through my years of reading manga and watching anime. A girl known for being creepy when it comes to her appearance and behavior, ... is suddenly thrown into situations beyond her ability, at first. Making friends, beginning conversations, people thanking her instead of apologizing and running off... all because of the popular boy in class, Kazehaya.
It shows realistic emotions, realistic love.... it isn't super flashy, or way out there in terms of the story. It's slow, yes, but it is a bit of a breath of fresh air compared to fast paced, in your face shoujo manga.



Art: 10

The art style for Kimi ni Todoke was, and still is to this very day, my favorite art style. It is easier for the eyes to look at, and it isn't so exaggerated and huge. Most shoujo manga have girls with large eyes and unrealistic expressions. Kimi ni Todoke is more soft, with real expressions. I don't have anything negative to say about it, really.



Characters: 9

Like the story, I won't sit here and say that the characters were absolutely perfect. But they were well done. Character development was nice and slow, at a proper pace. They weren't all indecisive and useless, they all had their own ways of figuring things out, and knew what they wanted to do.



Enjoyment: 10

I never not enjoyed reading the manga, or watching the anime. I always had a smile on my face, and I always got so excited seeing Kazehaya and Sawako together. The reactions they had for one another was so real, so authentic, it felt like someone could experience the same emotions shown throughout the series.



Overall: 9

I highly recommend this series. It is simple, and easy to look at. It is romance between two unlikely people, going through the struggles of self acceptance, high school, and enjoying the company of Maru-chan.

[ STORY | 9 ]
I have yet to come across another manga with the same level of truthfulness and honesty as Kimi ni Todoke. This gem explores the lightness of a high school romance, as well as the problems that come with it.
Readers will definitely swoon and sigh with the characters as they go through the happiest years of their lives. There are times when the characters experience some small misunderstandings and go through some petty fights, but they were incredibly realistic and relatable as well.
Aside from that, we also see the struggles of graduating high school students as they begin to choose their career ... paths. As I just graduated from high school last year, I found this aspect to be practical, and I related to the characters so much.

[ ART | 9 ]
The art really brings the characters to life. I love how there's a magical feeling in every scene, which is definitely perfect for the high school romance vibe.
The characters are also drawn exceptionally well, and it's easy to distinguish everyone from each other. Their chibi versions are adorable as heck.

[ CHARACTERS | 10 ]
I adored how each character has his/her own strong, unique personality. In particular, we have our main characters, Sawako and Kazehaya.
Sawako's sweet and charming, and it's so easy to relate to her insecurities and anxiety. Readers will want nothing more than to cheer her on!
Kazehaya, on the other hand, is preppy and outgoing. I love how realistically his character was portrayed as well--he's genuinely a nice person, but he knows his flaws and isn't afraid to show them.

[ ENJOYMENT | 8 ]
There were a few storylines I preferred more than others. Ryu and Chizuru's romancic subplot, in particular, was one I needed much more of. I adored Kazehaya and Sawako's innocent love story as well. I wish Ayane's story was less all-over-the-place, though.

[ OVERALL | 9 ]
I didn't feel like I read over a hundred chapters. Reading this manga was a breeze, and I absolutely loved every second of it. I highly recommend this to anyone who wants a light story that still makes a lot of sense.

Because this manga is still on going, all my ratings are based up to the 15th volume, so it might goes up or down as the story goes..

I'm actually not a fan to write a review of manga that I haven't finish reading or anime that I haven't finish watching, but I just need to write a review for this manga, just because.

Ok, firstly, I want to be honest. I start reading this manga because of Sawamura Eijun, ehm, that beautiful obnoxious and loud pitcher from Diamond no Ace, since he seemed to be hooked up with this manga. Soooooo, I tried.

And honestly, I understand ... why Eijun loves this manga so very much.

Based on story or plot, it actually quite simple, and normal. Nothing too different compare to other romance manga. BUT, I have several reasons as to why I love this and I would recommend this manga to you:

The story does not revolved around the romance only! What I love about this manga is how the mangaka seems to put generous amount of space to tell and let the friendship grows between characters (either the girls or the boys side). It's beautiful, truly.

Secondly, what I love about this story is how the mangaka chose the personality for each and every characters is to: BE HONEST. Thus makes the story get away from such a ridiculous misunderstanding or cliche fight. The situation that the mangaka tries to tell is genuine. That is why I love it, because I don't need to add more tsundere people.

I can never say bad to the art. The art is not so much to be reviewed.

Enjoyment and overall, this manga is great, and you'll love it. If not because of the story, but at least you'll fall in love on how honest the characters are, and their friendship, and their romance.

My short comment:
Kimi ni Todoke is one of the best storys I have ever read. Eventhough I started 4 days ago to read, I already finished reading all 70 chapters that there are up to now. Because once you start it you can't stop it. You just have to know what happens next or you are dying. That's why I would really beg you to not start it yet! I now have to wait a MONTH between the chapters and this is really killing me! So if you haven't started it yet you should wait until the author don't says that it will end ... soon. I really beg you to not start it until then!

The Story:
The Story is great! The whole plot is wonderful and everything is clear and easy to understand (except the parts where Karuho-sensei the author wanted them to not be understand easy) Karuho-sensei has a great sense of when to put in what and when what has to happen. The only thing that I don't like is that the story is a bit slow. It still has a great suprise rate and everything happens to a perfect time, but until the perfect time comes it needs seven chapters. It's somehow the Dragon Ball Z of the Shoujo. You know, it needs really much time, but once you read it you can't stop. You are dying when you stop and you kill yourself in this time when you have to wait.

The Characters:
The main characters are Sawako and Shouta. Sawako is a really shy girl. She can't smile on purpose and looks kind of scary when she tries. When someone is talking to her she is always kind and touched that people talk with her. Her character is really special but once you see what kind of character she has you just love her.
Shouta is the popular guy who goes with Sawako in one class. And I don't think that I am spoiling when I say that he loved her and she loved him since the first moment they saw eachother. But rightnow in the story plot I am really angry at Shouta. He is a typical boy with a touch of cuteness. But rightnow I don't like him. I hope the story shows soon why he is the way he is now, and I personally think that there will soon be sex between them. Yes I just said that. And I regret nothing, once you read the story I gues you will see it the same way.
Sawakos two friends Yano and Ayane are great characters and have there own personallity that is completly different from eachother. This is also a reason why I love this manga so much: Every character has it's own personallity.

The Art:
The Art is the most wonderful and funny thing about the whole Manga. Most of the time it's drawn in Chibi and and the characters get funny expressions. The outstanding people are drawn in shapes of people, what is good because this way you can't lose the sight of the main characters. In moments of personal or serious stuff the characters are drawn like angels, I really admire Karuho-senseis way of drawing. The eyes aren't big like apples, the boobs aren't big like watermelons and bouncing like a ball, and the hair has a normal physikal appility. I love the Art!

Overall:
All in All Kimi ni Todoke is the best Shoujo Manga in the world. It has a sweet story and perfekt characters. It is really great. But like I said above: Don't read it if it isn't finished yet. I am dying, I don't want my Otaku friends to die too. This waiting is really killing, but if you don't want to listen I can totally understand. It is the best Shoujo Manga in the world, I would read it too if I haven't. Good luck and much fun!!

Kimi ni Todoke is one of those manga that puts a smile on my face every time I read it.

Not a lot of things can do that for me. That's why I think it's a masterpiece.

The story is not so different from other high school romance stories. In fact, I don't even understand why I love it so much. I wouldn't even call the romance between Sawako and Kazehaya very deep. They like each other, and that's about it. And Sawako's relationship with her classmates and friends too are typical.
But for some reason, I can't get rid of this smile and happiness every time ... I read the manga or watch the show.

Maybe Kimi ni Todoke will remain one of those mysteries that don't need a reason to exist. A smile on Sawako's face is enough to make my day.

STORY
Impression after reading the description: a typical shoujo, unpopular girl gets noticed, falls in love with popular boy that gives her a lot of attention and then they live happily ever after like a fairy tale. Not to mention that the characters look extremely plain.

Impression after reading all available chapters: this is the story of an outcast.. and how she develops into a member of society and how she gains self insight through her relationships. It's a story about two people overcoming their lack of confidence by confronting someone that could possibly lead to a broken heart. In other words, it's a story about ... courage. Courage to speak one's mind, courage to stand up for your friends, courage to make a change.

ART
The art is quite different from other shoujo series which I found disappointing at first, but the realistic reactions also adds an effect to each scenery that is capable of affecting the reader emotionally.

CHARACTERS
The first volumes mainly focuses on Kuronuma Sawako, the outcast, her daily life, her thoughts after each new experienced feeling and her relationships. But the focus eventually gets divided between her, Yoshida Chizuru and Yano Ayane.

Kuronuma Sawako is a misunderstood, shy, awkward, kind and talented girl. Her motto is to do a good deed everyday and she lives up to it. Due to the misunderstandings involving her at her school, she lacks social skills and is therefore unable to interpret some statements correctly. Her dream is to clear those misunderstandings and become cheerful as Kazehaya Shouta who is her idol and get accepted by her classmates one day. Her logic is shown very clearly in her thinking process, and therefore it's convincing that she has the traits that makes her react the way she does.

Kazehaya Shouta is a refreshing, cheerful, considerate, confident and outgoing boy. He is known for being fair and equal to everyone, so when he starts to interact with Sawako, everyone automatically thinks it's out of kindness. However he shows hints of insecurity early on while being in Sawako's company which causes him to blush a lot.

Yoshida Chizuru is a straightforward, loud tomboy who isn't afraid of speaking her mind. She's very competitive as she grew up with baseball players and has a close relationship to her childhood friends, including Kazehaya.

Yano Ayane appears to be an indifferent and cold girl who rather keeps her thoughts to herself but in reality she's a very kind-hearted, caring and loving friend. She's the most mature one among these three girls and therefore very good at interpreting different situations which prevents further misunderstandings.

Other characters that are worth mentioning are Sanada Ryu (childhood friend of Chizuru and Kazehaya), Kurumizawa Ume (childhood friend of Kazehaya), Arai "Pin" Kazuichi (homeroom teacher and childhood friends of Kazehaya, Chizuru and Ryu), Miura Kento (classmate to Sawako, Kazehaya, Chizuru, Ayane and Ryu).

ENJOYMENT
This is without any doubt the best shoujo manga I've come across so far. The story might seem progressing really slow on the romance aspect which causes the reader frustration, but the overall concept shows how significant each and every scenery is. This couple is so pure that their struggles touches the reader's heart. It took me a while to realize that Kimi ni Todoke - "Reaching You" applies to all couples. The title literally describes the story and Kuronuma Sawako is the perfect example for the expression "Actions speak louder than words".

First of all, I recommend this manga, but it's worth saying that it's not for everyone.
He is everything I usually hate in romance, the development of the couple is very slow burn, there are a lot of misunderstandings and the plot is the lack of honest communication. If you hate conflicts that can be resolved just by the couple sitting down to talk honestly, this might not be for you.
I thought I would hate it, in fact I got really stressed out about it and thought about quitting. But it's really funny, maybe because I've been following both the manga and the anime for over ... 10 years, I started to see them with more affection. I practically grew up with them. I went from being antisocial with no friends to someone with friends and a social life, exactly like Sawako. So I created an emotional attachment.
Not only that, but they are really cute, the friendships between the characters are admirable because they are good people, the other secondary couples' relationships are interesting too. It requires a little patience, so I tried not to focus too much on the main couple's romance and I was able to enjoy it a lot. Mainly because of the humor.
After everything is resolved and they get together, there are a lot of chapters of them being a couple. Again, for some this may be boring, it's just a couple's routine, there's not much to show. But I love it and find it relaxing to read this kind of thing.

Well, you can see, whether or not you like this manga is a very personal thing. It's not an easily likeable one, but it can be. It's not that it's bad, but it has a very specific audience.
But it's extremely cute, sweet and beautiful
