This manga takes place a year before the events of Devil May Cry 3 the video game. Which confused me when I learned that, since Vergil is doing the same thing he was doing in game and the second volume ends on a specific scene right from the video game.

ah well, you shouldn't always expect PERFECT continuity when it comes to other forms of media attached to a franchise.

Keep in mind, this review is based off the official Tokyo pop translation. NOT the raw translation you can find on the Devil's Lair website.

So translation isn't really good...

The dialogue for Dante is a complete contrast ... from his personality in the video game. Personality wise he's closer the DmC reboot Dante people hate so much.
His attitude is over the top and he comes across like a foul mouth douchebag instead of the likable smart mouth from the game. At least the raw translation fixed that, I guess Tokyo Pop was trying to make him Edgier?
Vergil is pretty much the same even though he has a couple lines that seem to have the immature smart mouthing Dante should of had.

The art is Amazing!
I have no complaints about the artwork!
The manga artist did a good job keeping it close to the art from the games.

As I mentioned the story takes place a year before DMC3 the game. We still have Lady making a couple appearences and some new characters.
The manga does go a little further back into Dante's past, so if you wanted to explore that this manga is definitely worth picking up!

Apparently there was going to be a third volume (Code 3: Lady) but sadly the manga artist quit the project and it was canceled. I assume it would have focused more on Lady's character, backstory, and how she got started on her journey...but we'll never know.

If you can get over the botched translation, this is a manga I recommend to any devil may cry fan! I love the games and I had fun reading this.

This manga being out of print it might be a pain to find physical volumes, but I found my copies on ThriftBooks for less than $5.

Man! DMC Rocks!

The art in its incredable! I love the way everything is drawn! The Story...obviously differs to the game but still is fantastic! And the Characters are to die for!

I mean, Dante and his cocky masquerade! And Vergil with his silent but deadly personality...

Its Lovely! xDD

But however, as critic is always required...I don't like the fact that DMC is in Wonderland...-____- Meh.

... I loved ALice in wonderland as a kid. It made me smile! But after the DMC manga...I can't imagine the Mad Hatter the same ever again. O.o

I definately recommend this to anyone though! xDD It was a amazing manga!

Bear this in mind that this manga is particularly canon and will not be completed due events surrounding its serialization.

The line "It's been nearly a year since we last met" in the Devil May Cry 3 game is a reference to this story where they first met since their separation by Mundus. Volume 1 focuses on Dante where he gets a job to return a girl named Alice though his personality was altered into being more hostile and more closely to Vergil. Alice ran away and a demon lures Dante into buying his amulet given to him by his late mother and fails. Volume ... 2 focuses on Vergil as his alliance with Arkham and his brief and hostile reunion with Dante would be detailed. Volume 3 focuses on Lady as her real name "Mary" and her family history. Alice's relevancy in the continuity is unknown as she interacted with the 3 main characters and lead the twins reunion but however, there were no mentions of her outside the manga. Overall, this is not worth reading as this story is incomplete and too short to hold significant relevancy as Dante's and Vergil's personality were complete polar opposites and there was a plot error regarding Dante's devil trigger.
