Ryoma Hamazaki's greatest love in life is women's wrestling, and he remains devoted to his favorite team Gigamax for years after their retirement. By coincidence, he finds himself falling into Gigamax's rebirth into the wrestling scene. As he manages the team's comeback efforts, he gets mixed up with horny girl wrestlers, fends off team rivalries, and tries to unravel the mystery of what caused Gigamax to disband three years earlier.
You know, I never thought the day would come where I'd be a writing a review for a hentai, but Ring x Mama is special. Just hear me out. There is plot. No, not that kind of "plot", you sickos. Wait, why am I calling you guys the sickos? Anyways.. okay, there is a ton of that "plot" too, but in all seriousness, there is a legitimate story.
Every chapter where there isn't sex, the story is focused on the female wrestling industry of Japan. It may not be the most interesting or captivating story, but a story's a story. Considering the fact that this
is a hentai, just the thought of actually having something besides sex is admirable. The story is simple and straightforward. Nothing really shocked me or made me feel angry, sad, etc. but it was enough to keep my attention. This may sound really weird, but the story was in some way inspirational. Yea, there was sex like every 15, 20 pages, but these characters taught us that if you just work hard enough, you can get far in what you love to do and in this case, it's female wrestling. You may not take it very seriously, but again, a hentai with something more than just sex? That's pretty damn amazing.
As for the sex, I'm sure you'll enjoy it. It's not disturbing or weird. It's simple stuff like fellatios, threesomes, etc. This is getting sort of awkward, but I must persevere! There is one instance of rape, so if you absolutely cannot stomach that kind of thing, then I wouldn't read this. Let me just tell you though that it is very very far into the story and shouldn't be dark enough to make you stop reading. Also, it wasn't any of the main heroines if that makes you feel any better. That sounded much better in my head.
The only problem I have with the story is that it ended abruptly. It just suddenly ended at a point where it felt like it was just the beginning of a new arc. Also I wanted more of a conclusive ending in terms of romance. I understand the protagonist and the main female lead screwed like a bajillion times, but I really did wish for a wedding and possibly kids. Anyways, seeing as how I didn't have much expectations in the first place, these problems didn't make the manga any less enjoyable. Adding them in simply would've made it more enjoyable, but not having it, definitely didn't take away much.
The art isn't going to blow your mind, but it's good enough for a hentai. I found the heroines appealing and the sex scenes are definitely a sight to behold.
The characters are fairly standard. We have an assortment of tropes such as tsunderes, danderes, etc. They're nothing new or unique, but are still an immensely likable cast. The tsundere isn't bad compared to the ones we have today. Our main is the type of guy to stutter, but he's not completely spineless. In fact, I liked him as a protagonist. Every trait of his was right down in the middle. He's not the nicest guy, but he's not the meanest guy. He's not totally cowardly, but he doesn't have the biggest backbone. His personality was simply perfect.
To all hentai fans out there, this is a MUST READ. Not a lot of hentai will offer more than just sex. As for the people just looking for a manga to read, I am not going to spend my day trying to convince you, but new experiences are always fun, right?
One of the best Harem/Hentai manga's i have read so far, with great balance of comedy and action in the mix. This story is about a boy named Ryoma who loved watching womens wrestling, little does he know his landlady is one of his idol wrestlers! Keep it short without any spoilers he gets together with her and helps bring back their Gigamax’s wrestling business as the manager. This Manga has a great balance of Comedy/hentai/ Martial Arts, and surprisingly a good deal of romance between the two main characters of the story. Best thing to me about this story is that even though
the main protagonist truly loves only one girl she doesnt mine him messing around with the other girl wrestlers to much which really makes this a great Harem!
"Ring x Mama" is a rare hentai manga that combines your typical harem style h-manga tropes with a compelling sports manga theme. Interspersed between the copious amounts of sex scenes is an engaging story about a fictional professional wrestling league and a group of amatuers trying to get into the ring and another group of professionals coming back to settle old scores. If you follow wrestling you'll notice that the manga even incorporates specific wrestling tropes and as expected one of the characters makes an amusing "heel turn" as part of a sub plot which really made me feel like the mangaka nailed the "wrestling
feel" quite well.
If I had any complaints about this manga it would be that the male lead is a disgusting scoundrel. He's quite clear that he loves the female lead from early on in the series, but then continues to have sex with all of the other ladies in the team and even their enemies. This wouldn't be so bad if it was played off for laughs, but there is drama between some of the characters in how they feel about this relationship including jealousy and that's what makes it feel gross. Also, there is some netorare in this manga which felt really unnecessary and I was even a little disgusted at a supposedly "happily married woman" screaming out "I love you honey!" while getting railed by another guy - her reasons? Because her doting and loving husband is too afraid to come see her wrestle. Yep.
All that being said, "Ring x Mama" is absolutely in a league of it's own compared to other h-mangas. The artwork is brilliant, the character designs are great, the comedy is funny when it's supposed to be, the drama isn't over the top and the storyline features a fair amount of intrigue that will keep you reading to the end. The only real complaint I suppose is that it ends at a climatic moment without a denouement, leaving you wanting to read at least another chapter or two before walking away. Sadly, lack luster endings are almost a trademark of manga in general so this wasn't too much of a surprise.
If you're a fan of both hentai and sports manga then I think you'll really enjoy "Ring x Mama" and I highly recommend it.
