Let me preface this with the fact that I was very optomistic going into this read. I read and waited, but grew so frustrated with the work that I had to put it down never to be read again.

Pros:
The MC is refreshing and amusing. He's very real as a character.

The art style is reflective of when it was made, but seriously improves as the chapters progress.

The characters are pretty believable to some extent.

The original premise of the plot is actually pretty good.

The Ruler of the land is pretty entertaining, I quickly read through the scanlated chapters and it left me wanting more.

The story: 8/10: The story is a bit cliche, but since this manhwa was made back in the 90s I can forgive it. It is an adventure type story where the main character just goes in whichever direction his penis is pointing. Quite different from the usual main characters that are too scared to look at women.

The art: 7/10: The art isn't too spectacular, but it is still good and the way the panels are managed made the actions and martial arts the characters ...

This anime reminds me of Stars wars a little but in medieval Chinese times, the war between the dark force and the light force makes it even more enjoyable, there are so many guilds/clans whatever you want to call them and they have their own masters and disciples which are all pretty strong, also it gets better their are another 4 kingdoms who are called the neutral force who do not want to get involved in the conflict between the two main forces, the main characters is similar to Goku from Dragonballz the way he looks and how after every battle his power just increases ...

Probably one of the most underrated manhwa I've yet found, but there is a very good reason it's been running for over 430 chapters in Korea! It's AWESOME!

This manhwa has great battles, martial arts, comedy, sexual innuendo, angst, romance, blood and gore, a lead character who grows and matures over the life of the story and LOTS of chapters that are finally getting translated into English!

Han Bi Kwang is an engaging, brash but very lovable scoundrel who'd rather run from a fight than engage in it. His head is easily turned by a pretty face but because he has no finesse when it ... comes to women, he's never been with one himself. When the story opens, he has become the disciple of a famous master of martial arts because that master sees great potential in him, but Bi Kwang refuses to spend any time learning how to fight - he picks things up almost perfectly by watching so he doesn't see the need.

Through the story, he meets a beautiful and skilled swordswoman Dahm Hwa-Rin, who is the pupil of his master's arch enemy. She dresses as a man to protect her identity and even fools Bi Kwang for a while (not hard to do). The banter between the two leads is a large part of the story's charm - as Bi Kwang's wandering eyes (and hands) make Hwa-Rin want to kill him as often as she worries he's going to get himself killed! The two leads seem to be the last ones who realize how deeply they are falling in love with one another.

The main overarching narrative has Bi Kwang travelling deep into the enemy's territory looking for Hwa-Rin's grandfather, the great swordsman who, along with Bi Kwang's master, is one of the finest swordsmen of the age. Several smaller archs along the way have him making friends and running from enemies in the mythological world somewhat reminiscent of medieval Korea. The cast of this manhwa is huge and you might find yourself forgetting who one of the characters is, but there is excellent continuity of story and a nice, believable progression in the main characters' maturity and romance. The battles are well drawn and exciting too and I'm not one who usually enjoys endless battles in a story.

I was surprised by how much I liked this manhwa - it's unlike anything else on my favorites list - but I found myself reading through this one to the exclusion of just about everything else. It's addictive if you give it half a shot. The art looks a little dated at first, but understand this manhwa began in 1995 and is apparently still being produced. The first three volumes were translated and published here in the US, but I've not been able to find more than that. There are 51 volumes available in some other countries and, at long last, a generous and wonderful fan is translating the manhwa into English. I don't know if anyone will ever put the rest of this story into English officially, but if you are looking for something good that even the person who's read 'EVERYTHING' hasn't seen before, this may be it.

Ruler of the Land is quite old, and when you look at the art reminds me of Hajime no Ippo for it's old-like art, that you can really tell the difference from it and more recent mangas or manhwas for this matter. It can also resemble the story of Dragon Ball, because the main character doesn't have a real goal in life like many other mangas focus on, so the story is almost like a monogatari style if you look at it, but the hilarious comedy kind of rules that off.

As I said just now the story is basically the main characters Han Bi Kwang ... story from some point in time and his development in the world of Murim (Martial Arts World) which he seems to have no interest on, he is basically your next door pervert with his only goal to get a pretty woman for himself and settle down, but fates and bloodlines in the world of Martial Arts won't let this genius and stupid protagonist go in peace. In general the story will follow Han Bi Kwang as story unrolls, in a very hilarious way, sometimes you will simply read a chapter again and again and you will laugh your heart out each and every time. Story : 8/10 - Like Hajime no Ippo and Dragon Ball the authors aren't afraid of showing a lot more ecchi than others, not in a sexual way simply, but making the comedy simply brilliant that will make you feel like nothing else can make you feel bad the day you read Ruler of the Land.

The art is obviously old, since it has been almost 20 years Ruler of the Land started publishing, but it is still really good, only yesterday I started reading a new series which the art might as well had been done by an 6-year old, so don't let this series go because it's art is oldschool-like, I bet you haven't seen art quite like it before. Fight scenes are outstanding, scenery destruction and ground breaking are quite normal here and you will see it a lot, doublepages for the fight scenes are used more than a lot, which makes special attacks and huge swords and blades really amazing. Ecchi scenes are really well made, as said before they make the story hillarious. Art : 7/10 - It's old so i won't give more, but had it been made more recently undoubtlly it would be 10/10.

The characters are very well made and no matter how serious a character is in this series you WILL at some point in time, in this series, laugh your guts out with each and everyone of them specially with our main character Bi-Kwang and the way he is either perverted or sarcastic with the other characters. Character : 8/10 - there isn't much work in the characters as in their mind and way of thinking, the world is split basically in black force and white force, and people in each force hate the counterpart, our only variable would be the main character who just couldn't care less.

The enjoyment is outstanding, you will laugh like you most likely only did when you watched Dragon Ball (uncensored cuz TV screwed with an amazing series) and reading Hajime no Ippo. So far we have around 260 chapters, and in my opinion even if we reach 1000 like Hajime no Ippo, Ruler of the Land is worth reading a hundred times over and the comedy won't get old enough or tiring. Enjoyment : 10/10

In Overall : 8/10 - This series is really old-school in my opinion, I can spare fingers in my hand if i try to count how many "new" series made me laugh like this one and other rather old ones did. The story has an inner plot deep inside, but it isn't the main focus here. Mangas are far more vast in numbers than Manhwas, and Manhwas usually surprise us with it's different "logic" that mangas have, this one specifically will surprise you in ways that you have to re-start a chapter you were reading because you started to laugh for 10 minutes halfway through the chapter. More than worth reading over and over and supporting.
