A decent enough beginning that lead nowhere. Reincarnated as an Unruly Heir doesn't provide it's readers any explanation regarding cultivation levels and the overall world structure is only briefly touched upon. For the most of it, it also only provides the readers with nonstop boring politics and uninteresting, uneventful story arcs. Not even the characters are a strong point for this manwha, yet this is definitely something fans of cultivation/wuxia, or powerfantasy stories can enjoy.
Story (4 / 10):
The plot revolves around a martial artist Jagak Yang being poisoned and reincarnated in the body of an evil cult leader's son. He wishes to, from my understanding,
...
liberate the evil sect after realizing it is stuck between a rock and a hard place. There is severe political conflict within the sect, and it's members aren't free to wander the world due to being considered an evil sect. I didn't find the politics or character talks interesting, and at no point did this story have emotional or tense moments, it's either politics and scheming, or occasional fight. Every story arc felt lacking.
Characters (4 / 10):
This manhwa doesn't have any notable side cast characters. The first character you meet, who is supposedly the bodyguard/servant for our main character is completely sidelined and only brought up on a few occasions. The second character we meet, a betrothed to our main character sometimes appears in panels screaming about what a horrible person the main character is & our main character mistakes her for a maid in several occasions. This hasn't changed in past 62 chapters. Every powerful figure present feels irrelevant outside of the plot, they've got no legs to stand upon if we'd alter the story and remove them from positions of power. There is one character whom I was always happy to see however, the doomslayer himself, Taesik Eul. But even his overall personality can be found lacking in the grand scheme of things.
I also have severe difficulties trying to understand what our main character is trying to be. The manhwa tries to have a balance of having him be smart, virtuous, assertive & powerful whenever in private, while having him pretending to be the evil sect leader's son in public. However there are a few instances where he isn't doing neither. Or both. Or neither. And at times it feels like his personality has completely shifted from what it was earlier on. His intelligence sometimes is completely lacking, sometimes he is oddly easily flustered despite previously showcasing that it's not in his personality to do so. And later down the line I have witnessed him throw his virtues out the window for what I can only assume was done as a plot reason, although you can argue that the demonic energy has altered him.
Art (6,5 / 10):
I think the coloring is a bit muted & environments are plain, but I think the art is decent and doesn't get in the way. Probably about as good as you'd expect overall.
Enjoyment (5 / 10):
I haven't found a single arc truly good, but the manhwa is a power fantasy, and power fantasies always provide some level of entertainment. At the end of the day, I think there is 100% an audience that will enjoy this.
