What should I tell you about Yuugen to Jorei Gakkyuu? Maybe that it's a work from Seaki and Tsukuda who made Shokugeki no Souma, so this will be automatically compared to that, but also bring high hopes for an outstanding work. However, it's just a One-Shot, so at most, you can just pray that it maybe get serialized. But let us begin with the Story.
Story 6/10
As some of you already know, a One-Shot is mostly just a teaser or a special for an upcoming or ongoing serie. So you won't get a complete Story either. But what you get, is a 50 sides long taste
...
of "what could it be". The setting is interesting, but also familiar, not very original. You follow a "teacher" at his exorcist work (so at least it's not about a 12-16 year old kid, what you get at every corner of the shounen world), and his female collegue. And yes, I think you already know what kind of relationship they have... (the usual, I hate him, but he is kinda awesome, so I will fall in love in him... ~meh, we all know these stories). And while you follow his work, you get some nice jokes and action. Business as usual, I would say.
Art 9/10
What saves the work from his interesting but unoriginal story is the art! Just like in Shokugeki no Souma (not the ecchi stuff, but the food), you get an extraordinary visualisation of the monsters and the action. Also you get the funny unique style at the lighter parts. So the art really harmonies with the work, more than that it makes it special!
Character 6/10
The Characters are funny and interesting, of course. However, in 50 sides you won't get the everything of them. You also won't see any character development and their characteristics are mostly familiar. For example, the protagonist is more ordinary than Souma from Shokugeki no Souma, and in my opinion that character carried 80% of the Story. So there is a chance that the protagonist will fail, especially without any developments. While the only support character in this work was also mostly mediocre. They have potential, but they need time! With a little bit of work they could be really special and outstanding, just like the characters in Shokugeki.
Enjoyment 7/10
For a One-Shot, I really enjoyed this work and made me hope for more. Even with a bit familiar and unoriginally Story / Characters, you get at least an outstanding Art, you get a taste of the humor and the action, what are all interesting and enjoyable.
Overall 7/10
With a bit more deeper and "newer" story, what is possible in a serie, this could be great work just as Shokugeki was, or even greater (with less ecchi and more variety in the Story). I truly recommend this work, too at least give you a taste if it would get a serialisation. However, it's maybe a bit more mature but still a shounen. So if you are interested in a more unique story, or a funnier / action-packed story you should skip these 50 sides, especially, if you are more into a longer and detail richer stories, because it's still just a teaser.
