Naoko kills all of the medical staff in the mental hospital that she is in and escapes. Now, as Naoko wanders around town wearing a disfigured pumpkin head, all that occupies her mind is exacting revenge against those who cruelly wronged her. It is time for revenge. Nobody can escape, "Pumpkin Night" seeks to kill them all.

Hello, dear readers, weebs and otakus! Today I am going to be talking about a horror manga known as pumpkin night which is essentially inspired by western slasher films. It is basically a slasher horror manga with the slasher being the crazy girl with a disfigured face wearing a ... pumpkin mask.

Now, though it is rather odd to talk about a slasher’s backstory, it is of course necessary to see their origins and their intentions. Naoko is after her high school bullies after they bullied her everyday and it’s not like kids are mean kind of bullying it’s like getting beat up everyday and after she gets a pumpkin mask put on her at like halloween or prom or something, i can’t even remember. But this pumpkin mask is filled with sulfuric acid which melts her face off upon contact. Now, Naoko really does have a compelling reason to go on a killing spree but there are a few minor things that I would like to discuss but I won't due to spoilers and I would like to keep this review spoiler free.

The story of this manga is absolutely ridiculous and hard to take seriously at times though it does have its moments to shine and one of the biggest problems with the plot and the storyline of this manga is the fact that a lot of the story writing is messy and scrambled, This manga has a problem with managing story arcs and i feel like the author is someone who lets his intrusive thoughts win on a weekly if not daily basis, it’s like the author was just playing around with different ideas in the most inconsistent and unmanageable way possible, it’s not the fact that playing around with different ideas is a bad thing of course it’s not. For example, Jojo's bizarre adventure is an amazing story which often plays around with different ideas but araki sensei, the author of jojo’s does this by examining the story that he’s created so far and he decides whether it makes sense or not and how it will impact the story later. I feel that The author of pumpkin night named Masaya Hokazono does not think about the future and the impact of the story thoroughly.

The Art of This Manga is absolutely amazing with very detailed gore, The composition and the art is also very good during scenes which had that creepy feel to it. I hope that the art of this manga stays consistent and I hope that it just gets better and better over time. Good luck to the artist of this manga! So, Good luck to Seima Taniguchi and I wish him the best of luck in his career.

That’s all I've got to say for this manga and if you guys just want a fun horror manga that's reminiscent of old western slasher films then here you go! So, I recommend reading this manga at night and I'll see ya later!

Great Binge read material


The story is filled with pretty interesting developments, all the while being accompanied with pretty gruesome slasher violence and gore. This, and the fact that there is a somewhat intriguing plot in the background, makes for a manga that's a solid pick if you are looking for a binge read session.

That said however, if you are like me, and won't be able to finish 30-40 chapters in one sitting, the story can get a little boring. Especially after you come back to read it after a day or something.

What kept me going was basically the crazy slasher moments, and overall ... unhinged nature of the plot.

Anyways, if you are looking to read this,
० it has a very pretty art style, (which somehow works great even for the gore scenes)
० the gore scenes are pretty wild, and will keep you from putting this manga down
० and finally, it is great for a binge-reading session

० bonus - the Chillock scanlation made reading this way too fun, so you can do that if you want some added comedy

It really doesn't take Inspector Gadget to realize "Pumpkin Night" is a grotesque slasher with the sole aim of illustrating as much gore and intestinal carnage as possible. In regards to characters, they seem to exist for the express purpose of enabling Kirino Naoko, or "Pumpkin Night," to torture, ravage, and eviscerate any living thing in her path. The story is at least capable of evolving through different plotlines rather than remain at a complete standstill. Points for adopting creative ways where Pumpkin Night can make use of any object and manifest grisliness akin to your most twisted subconscious thoughts. Recommended to anyone who relishes ... the ideation of massacre, but don't go in expecting any depth to the senseless slaughtering. 4/10
