Beautiful human drama with gorgeous aquatic artwork.

Deep Sea Aquarium MagMell is ultimately a human drama sets in an aquarium for deep sea creatures. Although there is a foreshadowing for a bigger story that slowly unfolds, the delivery is more of a character-driven slice of life. The manga is focused on the people connected with the protagonist and the aquarium, diving deeper into their lives.

The aquatic theme never left. Besides the incredible aquatic scenery, every stories have fascinating details about a deep sea creature that drives the character development as we learn more about them.

It is a very charming series, written and drawn ... beautifully with a serene atmosphere befitting of its stories and themes.

Deep Sea Aquarium Magmell has an interesting premise that has not had enough time to come to fruition yet. This is a fairly new manga at the time of this review, so I mainly want to talk about the reasons why I am looking forward to reading the rest of this manga as it comes out.

Art- 10
First thing's first, the art is stunning. The illustrator makes the scenes in Magmell look incredible. This is probably my favorite aspect of the manga, as the scenes underwater are gorgeous and make me want more.

Story- 8
The story has potential. It seems as though it will be a good ... character-focused coming-of-age/achieving your dreams type of story. I'm keeping the score to an 8 solely because not enough has happened yet for me to give a complete opinion, but I like what I've seen.

Character- 7
This is a 7 for much of the same reasons as why the story is an 8, not enough development has happened yet. However, this is slightly lower than the story score because I feel like I have less of a grasp on what each character is like than I do on the story.

Enjoyment- 9
Yeah, if you couldn't tell, I like this so far. It's charming, pretty, and I can tell that depending on how well the rest is written, this could become something special.

Overall- 8/10

A manga with potential, ruined by lack of research.

From the first chapter, it is clear that what the artist was going for was a "Kemono-Friends" style informative manga about animals. Unfortunatley, being able to draw well is not the only requirement needed to create a wildlife series. Chapter by chapter, the artist shows that he has done minimal research about the topics he writes about. In chapter 1, Koutarou says that this aquarium is 200 meters under the sea. Giant squids will not ascend to a depth of 200 meters just because of some bait. Other deep sea creatures that can be seen outside of ... aquarium do not live at that depth.

I am not sure whether the artist actually likes marine life or just picked it up as to make a manga, but either way, this does not excuse the poor research that went into the manga's creation. An absolute shame to marine life, and an absolute disgrace against sperm whales.

"say, Koutarou, do you know about a part of the ocean so deep that the light from the surface does not reach it? That place is called 'The Sea Farther than Space'"
