Watashi no Fushidara is a story about addiction. And it does not pull punches. What’s more, it’s not addiction to any physical substance. No, it is addiction to love. After living without feeling passionate about anything through the whole life, the protagonists falls in love for the first time. fulfilling her more and more irresistible need for what she got addicted to, fascinatingly mirroring a drug addiction. And who’s to say, maybe love really is a drug.
Sure, other characters that got dragged into this situations didn’t do anything wrong – but does that mean that the story is bad? No, innocent victims is not unlikely consequence of later stages of addiction. The story is tragic, but it is well written warning.
You could say that Watashi no Fushidara is more realistic take on yandere trope – a yandere behaviour in a world where actions have consequences. It is certainly worth a read if you’re in a mood for some unhappy tale.
