Tokyo Revengers is one of those mangas that build up its story so high only to see itself crumble from the author's lack of verisimilitude.
Being a time leap story there are some fundamentals that every reader will be curious about: why is the main character time leaping? How is he doing it? When is he travelling to? Is the present affected by the changes in the past? Most of these questions are answered throughout the arcs and for most of the manga the time leaping is quite consistent and well explained on those fundamental questions. Except for the last arc, we do have learn new

Update 17 November 2022:
Do I think it's recommendable? - No. It was never exceptional in the first place, but got worse and worse as the story went on. The writing was quite disastrous. The ending was exceptional in a bad way, erasing all of the buildup and plot progression that made the story what it was. Did I ever regret reading it? - Well, yes, at one point it felt like so much time was wasted. But do I regret finishing the last 60 chapters when I had previously dropped the series? - I guess not. I'm glad I got to witness the ending. Now that this is ... Apr 30, 2021
This review is mostly my experience with the manga and what i think about it, so it might have some spoilers.
Among the airing shows in this season we had Tokyo Revengers. A time travel story where the protagonist goes back to the past to save his "beloved one", if you're here you might know the rest. I watched 2 episodes of it and ended up going to the manga. The quotation marks in "beloved one" is there because the protagonist had no reason to love her, Hina. They once dated in middle school, but that's it. Assuming from what the story tell us about when they were ... Jul 28, 2021
Its overrated.
The art is good, there are couple of cool characters and the premise is somewhat interesting. That's almost all of the positive stuff that can be said about this series. The story is mediocre at best and its devoid of logic. Apart for few most of the characters are more of a caricature than a character. The plot is repetitive and getting more predictable as the story progress. The MC is a 26 years in a body of 14 years but still have the mental age of 14 years old. He doesn't seem to learn anything from his mistakes and act like a ... Sep 11, 2022
I'm not going to hone in on specific characteristics of the manga like characters/plot/art/etc because there's plenty of that in other reviews here already, but I'm dropping this review as a WARNING to anyone who wants to pick up this manga these days,
DROP THIS MANGA AFTER CHAPTER 194! It's very obvious that the manga wasn't planned to go for this long and is being stretched out bc it sells like hotcakes. The story in chapter 194 reaches a sort of natural endpoint, coming shortly after the biggest arc in the series, Tenjiku. Everything that came after has been torturous to read week after week, ... I started the anime, it caught my eye as I thought it was good, but when I read the manga, it was okay in the start, but then I realized that the whole manga is the same scenario shit again and again.
the main character needs to separate 2 people so his girlfriend doesn't die, he does that, now something new was the cause that the girl died, then he fixed that, then there is another reason she died, then he got to fix that, and its like that the whole series, it's sad to see because it could have done a lot of things, but ... After watching the anime version up to episode 2, I started reading the manga last midnight and recently finished it up to the newest chapter (202) in just one sitting. I'm very sleepy right now, but my desire to speak is unbearable. The story isn't bad but it's not great either. Honestly, this kind of disappoints me. So I guess I won't continue reading it anymore and won't continue watching the anime either. I realized that I shouldn't have to read the manga, maybe with that I can enjoy the anime to the end. My bad. Don't get me wrong, it's not because the anime

Have you ever played an app game or whatever that involves gacha and lets you reroll until you're satisfied with what you get? A normal person would be satisfied as long as they get something they like or meta, because let's be real, you can't get everything unless you're extra lucky and nail that .01%. Takemichi or the protagonist is in a sense not normal in that matter because he got everything anyone would be more than happy with, but he abandons such cherished results and asks for more. But what do you know, he is already getting a terrible result compared to that reroll

Look, Tokyo Revengers was a pretty solid work until Tenjiku's arc.
After that, the only reason to make more content on the main work was only to squeeze more money out of this successful series. It is the only manga that I followed weekly to the end and I don't regret it. The ending was bad, it was a mix of Naruto Shippuden and Erased if it was even more rushed. I'm a person who started watching Tokyo Revengers because of the action, and I have to say, It was not lacking until the end. Every arc was Amazing with emotions and Action, mainly the 3 ... it's been one hell of a ride!!! screaming, crying, throwing up, rolling on the floor and then rolling up in a fetal position in said puddle of vomit. the story has been great and its been a rollercoaster ride of emotions, seriously i have had serious anxiety and euphoria and overwhelming sadness when some characters met their maker. Good story, but WHAT WAS IT ALL FOR? if you have read till the end you'll understand why i'm asking this. i expected better than what i received in the end.
feelings aside about the ending, the story was well written in my opinion, i was kept ... Nov 16, 2022
It's finally fucking over.
This manga is great, it actually is, that is only if you read until chapter 193 and the imagine it ends there. Because the next 85 chapters are the most unnecessary and worthless pieces of media that i've ever read. EVER. I don't really know if the author really wanted to extend his manga those 2 years or if he was pressured to do so but the ending of this ruins it so much that all the enjoyment that you could get out of it is tossed out of the window, and i can't in my good conscience, recommend a manga that ... I hate when a manga become this popular because people's expectations went too high or worse: author's or editor's expectation's change.
Is the ending rushed? Yes. Is it author's or editor's fault? We'll never known, but, Tokyo Revengers pace was pretty good until the fame show up. Then everything felt weird and without a cause. Like in some point the story that was originally settled changed. I think the author wanted a very different ending but *something* pushed him to do what we had. Nevertheless, I discovered this manga in 2019, I think, when Black Dragon's arc was ending or so. And I loved it. The story ... Jun 19, 2023
I really liked this manga. Right until the very last arc after the tenjiku one. Man what a way to ruin a good series, the author could have ended the series then and it would have been great but he had to implement the most rancid garbage ending possible. I probably would have given this a 9/10 had the last arc not existed. The problem with the last arc is the amount of irrelevant characters that are added and dumb shit that happens at the end that just makes it stupid. The conclusion to the whole good story was completely and utterly stupid and could

Tokyo Revengers tells a story about a 26-year-old freeter, Takemichi Hanagaki. One day he learns that his middle school ex-girlfriend (Hinata Tachibana) and her younger brother (Naoto) have been killed by the Tokyo Manji Gang. When Takemichi is pushed in front of a train, he teleports exacly 12 years into the past to 2005. While reliving his middle school years, Takemichi meets with Naoto and divulges the exact date he and Hinata will die. When they shake hands, Takemichi is suddenly transported back to the present, creating a time paradox where Naoto survives and is now a detective. Naoto deduces that every time they hold

As far as Shonen fight manga's go this WAS an incredibly fun series full of suspense, surprises, and characters to love (MC being the only weakness in this trait), and antagonists that you love to see go down. To add Ken Wakui has a very attractive and easy to read art style. The characters are easy on the eyes and full of variety, environmental art fit excellently in the setting, that the paneling was excellently done to contribute to dialogue driven sections of the story.
So why is this review "mixed" with a score of 4? Because leading up until the final arc, I would ... Jan 25, 2023
First of all WOW, the ending to this story does exist! (I am not counting those additional backstory chapters that are still coming out since MAL is also not counting those apparently, plus the story has ended).
Hold on tight, I have a lot to say about this one. I am writing from a position of a person that watched the first season of anime and then continued the manga where they left off in anime. Also, I did forget a lot of details from manga, I started reading it a long time ago and wasn't really keeping up with it as it was coming out, I ... |
