Why this has such a low score average I do not know, it was a blast to read. The art is absolutely outstanding, the story is imaginative to an extreme with both action and humour mixed in equally. The different characters are likeable generally with some gag characters factored in.
Paneling is easy to follow with a clear flow of events. The story itself has a satisfying and final conclusion which does not feel rushed or forced. The art is really next level, standard for Masamune Shirow's work but something about this mix of magic/spirituality/sci-fi really works for his style. As is to be expected,
...
really fantastic line details and scenery.
The only negative I can think of is that a lot of the pseudo-science of how the world works is not laid out in a manner which the reader can fully pick up as a known rule system. This requires you to "go with the flow" of the story's presented topics, e.g. you have to accept out of hand that you are dealing with God forces and a type of power system that we do not comprehend. Some of it can be surmised as to what its meaning or intention is, but overall, I did not find it clearly explained. I do not think this is any major issue though and was easy enough to enjoy the story without having a firm grasp of the weird sorcery power level that Masmume Shirow created - the story makes clear what the intent of the different levels are based off of the surrounding actions.
I highly recommend it!
